why not get a tablet/ipad. they have keyboard attachments now and are very portable and useful. ipad 4 was $468 posted on here the other day, then get keyboard case and your all set. just transfer the notes to your desktop when you get home.

  • Agree an ipad plus keyboard would be a good solution.
Otherwise, I'd suggest a small, cheap ultrabook. Lightweight/portability and battery weight would be the most important features, rather than performance/graphics.

I would get something that can run excel and word. Ie: something with windows.

  • I also recommend a laptop or ultrabook. Aim for a min screen size of 11.6-13 inches.
Just an example — both are expired deals, but they are indicative of what you should get

I bring my Android tablet to university, but other than being able to use Blackboard online, view online lecture notes and such you can't really do much work on it.

Remember if you're a business / math / engineering student you WILL use a lot of Microsoft Excel, which works best on a good'ole x86 pc. Depending on your course you might be required to use some specialized software, like Endnote, NVIVO / SPSS and so on.

Note: If you buy from Dick Smith online don't forget to take advantage of cashback offer.

University is a waste of time. Seriously. Get a job or a trade, not debt that will take a long while to clear and a worthless piece of paper.

      so true.

I dropped out of uni after 1 semester of theatre tech. Scored a job as a heart surgeon. got a set of scrubs off ebay. watched every episode of grays anatomy. started working as a hospital orderly and one day a surgeon was sick and they needed someone to fill in for him. the hospital director remembering my skills at carving the turkey at the previous years christmas party called me up. now pulling in $300+K (with tips).
