    not sure about this…

  • Do a special on freshly roasted unground beans and I believe you'll get a great response

  • anybody can comment on the coffee at this place? Comparing to Manna and Bay beans?

  • Yes, I have to second BM, no option of unground beans is an automatic deal breaker for me. Only Coffee Heathens buy pre-ground.

Ummm I think it'd be apples with oranges comparing these guys vs boutique roasters. Everything here is done at some big factory back in Vietnam….so I'd be very sceptical that it's been roasted within the past week, as you'd be guaranteed with a domestic small roaster. SO thats a problem.

The quality of the packaging etc is sometimes iffy on Viet coffees (based on what I've seen in Cabramatta stores) - I assume they pack right after roasting but don't have one way valves in their bags for CO2 release - as quite a few aren't 'vacuum packed' though perhaps they did originally get most of the Oxygen out.

The only upside of this type of deal IMHO is that you do get to try Vietnamese coffees and their unique blends, which are sometimes a lot better than you'd think. Vietnam is one of the biggest coffee producers in the world, which is odd as you'll NEVER hear about this…….and as such one assumes their beans are junk.

A lot of them are….as the vast majority of what they produce are sold to the big intl megaco's for making into instant….hence Vietnam has long specialised in Robusta and other lower grade coffees, which yield more but are poor tasting. HOWEVER, they've actually begun doing some quite good stuff as well - hence I'm not going to be silly and say these coffees are definitely no good. But they're factory roasted, pre-ground stuff thats come from Vietnam to here - so I'd say they're not at their best (even the whole beans would be a lil long in the tooth).

IMHO Vietnamese coffees are best drunk in the traditional Vietnamese style (short shot into tall glass of ice with condensed milk). Wonderful stuff that nearly every Viet has each day several times! If you ever do go you have to try the Civet Cat coffee too. :-)

  • Love Vietnamese coffee!! Have it everyday in the Vietnamese style… Love it! Cheap, good tasting coffee, maybe not for the espresso connoisseurs, but I love it all the same.

  • I have bought the Trung Nguyen and phin's from these guys for my Viet coffee experience and have been extremely happy with the results. (short glass, condensed, ice = Caphe sua da)
The above mentioned brand have several varieties with little to no robusta in the blend

  • Ordered 1, thanks OP.
Now hunting for s/s Drip Filter on ebay!

    • They have several on their site http://www.viet-coffee.com.au/xcart/home.php?cat=9
I just got the ally ones for $2 so they are more like what you get in a real viet cafe

    • If you're near any Asian grocers or those Asian gift shops, they sometimes sell them for about $1.50 each. Easier if you're the major cities I suppose.

  • I quickly ordered to try something, then came back and read the comments about it being ground (didn't realise that) and almost cancelled my order. Glad I didn't - have tried the first bag (Gout de Paris) and it was awesome. Never tried vietnamese coffee before but really enjoyed this in the plunger. Also being only sample bag size, no problem being ground. I'm no coffee connoisseur, but normally buy my beans from a local roaster and really enjoyed this as a change. I noticed the offer is still available, can recommend to others.
