Tablets

I am in the market for the Tablet whatever the Gb is. Just wonder if anyone has done a comparison and know what is the best Tablets to get in terms of brand, functionality, performance, durability, speed and price wise for the Ipad, Samsung, Sony, Asus, Google. There is a big price variation with Ipad and the other brands and I want to get the a good tablet that will last a while and can perform most of the functions at a reasonability good speed without having to pay a lot.

I don't think Google is going to help. There are a huge amount of tablets.

I'd recommend physically going into JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Harvey Norman etc and having a play with the tablets there. IMO, the big factors into selecting a tablet others than price

    • Determining what size you want (eg 7", 10", other).
    • Battery life. How long will the device spend away from a charging device.
    • Consumption device or are you planning on using this as device to work from. Typing up documents, day to day work functions. Surface Pros may be a lot better placed to be a work device.
    • Considered a convertible laptop/tablet. There are new multifunction devices that can act as both.
    • Wifi? or Wifi and cellular connection? Personally, I just use wifi and tether but might be something you consider.
    • Thank you Neil, for the great tips. I basically want a tablet with a size 10" screen where I can use it for uni that would include surfing the net, typing and storing documents in the tablet or external drive. I don't particularly want a cellular connenction however wifi connection is important. Does a 64gb or 128 gb helps with controlling the speed if I store a lot of data or surf the net a lot? I would like to go for a 32 or 64Gb.

Surfing the web is fine, but if you type a lot, it's much better to get a tablet with a keyboard or a laptop. Documents barely use any space at all

        No.

      • Personally, I'd get the 32GB as I keep everything in the cloud. The Android tablets tend to have external cards for more storage anyway.

Take a look through OzBargain's tablets or a price comparision websites to find the cheapest price on a 10" tablet.

  • If you just want to use it for surfing the net and use Google Drive for essays, spreadsheets etc., you'd might want to consider getting a chromebook.

As it runs ChromeOS, you cannot install any Windows programs on it. You use chrome web store apps instead,

  • i got a Samsung 8gb tab for my parents and realized that the OS takes up 4gb leaving you 4gb for aps and movies etc. to make things worse, the micro sd is virtually useless, you cant move aps to the sd card :0(, for whats its worth i think paying a little more for nexus is a better idea.
