It's back! 30% off some of popular Dell monitors for 48 hours (expires Thursday 7 March).

  • Dell UltraSharp U2412M — $279
  • Dell UltraSharp U2410 — $489
  • Dell UltraSharp U2712HM — $559

Note that it's actually cheaper to buy 2x U2412M or U2712HM separately. Somehow dual U2412M is $559 and dual U2712HM is $1119, both $1 more.

Also Quibble is currently doing 8% cashback on Dell products. The cashback is based on ex-GST amount, which means U2412M is $258.71 and U2712HM is $518.35 after cashback (which can take ~3 months).

Please see this page on how cashback works.

Girlfriend's Mother asked me to get her a spanking

This is where you were supposed to stop listening.

    • If you're not playing games or doing graphic design or photography / video work that requires color accuracy, then it doesn't matter, get the cheapest one in the size you want.

Is your GF doing her PhD in mining studies?

    • The U2412M would be great if not overkill for her needs. The ST2420L should do her fine too at ~$80 cheaper.

Difference between the 2 would be more accurate colours, viewing angles, screen ratio (slightly taller screen (U2412M) vs wider (ST2420L)), connectivity options (eg. USB ports, DP, HDMI) & the monitor stand on the U2412M which allows height & orientation adjustment (allowing portrait view of documents).

If money is not a concern, I'd just hit the U2412M.

      • ST2420L is a rubbish monitor - poor colour reproduction, washed out looking colours, annoying glossy bezel, useless monitor stand with no tilt/height adjust, uneven backlighting, etc. etc. - don't get it.

    • just go to centrecom and grab a LG 24" monitor for $149

Currently in the final stages of my PhD. I usually only do work at the office which has a 24". I have a lot of windows and files open at any one time and the 24" is just manageable. Would prefer a larger screen for the office. Either a 27" with high res or 2x24" would be sufficient I think, though it will depend on the her needs and the purposes of her candidature.

Got the U2713HM last sale for home and the extra real estate is awesome.

the 24 inch in my pants

    • I highly recommend the U2412M it is an IPS monitor (better colours) and is slightly taller than most 24" screens so great for reading and having two documents side by side. Also connects to HDMI of your laptop (cable extra).

  • actually the same when you checking out.

Dell cashback is hit and miss. Still waiting for cashback for the U2412M bought last July.

Hi nfr, we actually have a pretty good record with Dell's tracking (99% tracked) however there was a period where Dell couldn't handle any cashback enquiries. We have resolved this matter with them and they are now happy to look into all Qwibble.com.au enquiries so if it does not track we can chase it down for you.

    • is qwibble the new buckscoop? I'm so confused

      • +1

Hi AussieMark, Qwibble took over the cashback element that Buckscoop used to do. Buckscoop is still there but they don't do cashback any more…I hope that made sense :)

        • thanks. Glad i found qwibble!

  • the savings on these are about $20-30 dollars compared to some other outlets if you look around. i wouldn't call it a 30% off sale. more like 10%. - so it isn't making me jump.

There's a quick 1 min youtube review on the U2412M ("M" denoting Millions of colours not Billions as in the higher end models.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOkLg9HZCdA

    Also this model lacks HDMI.

I have paid <$500 for a new u2713HM recently. So this is not really a bargain for me.
