an old but gold game IMO.

Good game for the traveller who doesn't have an internet connection even though a little old. I prefer Sim City 4 myself.

This was like $2.99 last year… great game but I don't think $5.99 is a bargain.

Stumbled on it a few days ago but seemed to me $5.99 was the normal price.

  • If you don't need the 'special' part its free:

Edit: or seems not anymore :(

      • Cheers!

      • Define 'works' ? It won't run on Win7 64-bit ?

        • That's pretty common with 64bit windows…

          Boot to Dos :)

        • It runs fine for me on Win7 64bit but you have to run it in compatibility mode. If all else fails download a program called DosBox.

        • Which compatibility mode? Win95/98/XP/2K?

        • I would probably try 98 or XP to start with…

        • It's not working. What am I doing wrong? I unzip everything into a folder and then click install.exe ? or simcity2000.exe ? Neither one works even after selecting compatibility mode in the properties.

    • Just like any game is 'free' if you pirate it. Might as well say the newest one is free.

  • I started playing SimCity Deluxe on the iPad while waiting for the server issues to get ironed out.

I'm kinda tempted to get this just to try it out since it's been a super long time since I played it.

I remembered I paid $100 for this at Harvey Normans almost ~12 years ago.
Came with box manual and all.

    • 12 years ago? This game is from 1994… I didn't even pay $100 for SimCity 3000 in 1999, it was about $89.95.

        Mystery solved.

Not really. Even then, a 7 year old game wouldn't have been $100. In 2001, even SC3K was getting old.

  • Simcity 2000 is the best simcity ever made. Simcity 4 is ok if they fixed al lthe bugs to make it stable. Theres nothing more annoying than creating a new suburbs with roads, bus stops, subways etc and having the game crash before you could save it.

    • hmmm, can't say it ever broke for me and I played this for many hours at a time for months. 3000 was pretty good too it was essentially 2000 with the updated graphics and extra zoom and a few other features.

  • isn't this its normal price?

At least servers wont keep this game from working :D

$6 for a 19 year old game is a bargain? lol. You can get 5 year old games for a few dollars now.

In fact I bought SimCity 4 for $5 during the last Steam sale. Seems ridiculous paying more for SC2 than SC4.

      • Simcity 4 is over 10 years old, I don't think it really matters that you paid less than a 20 year old game…

        • Ok how about this then - I bought Metro 2033 for under $5 last year. At the time it was 2 years old.

probably comes down to popularity and what people are willing to pay.

Simcity 2000 Network Edition was the best game they ever made. It was buggy as hell and I found it next to impossible to get a game up and running, but when we did, wow was that game fun! Working on a city together. Apparently Simcity5 does this in competition but S2K NE allowed you to do it in a co-op manner, much better in my opinion.

Shame it's just too old now. This is a classic but I'm not so sure it's worth $6 today. I was still in highschool when this came out and played it on a 486 dx2/66 computer, it should be priced accordingly, 99c perhaps.

Thumbed up for the LazyGameReviews plug-in.

  • Mm by 2033, Aud dollars may lose its value and should cost more. U made a fortune mate. Keep the game in the sealed plastic bag.

    • rofl.

  • Soooo many great memories! :)

I loved pressing the disaster button to test my city out.

God this game was a massive time sink…. but I loved it.

Shame the new one requires online connection, wont be getting it.

$6.00 for a crappy old game when you can get an awesome 3-5 year old game on steam
