Dell XPS m1330 laptops 15% off

Dell XPS M1330 laptops
XPS is their top of the line machine and these are the small, light and slim version
Much better machine than the silly netbooks people carry around
Not a gaming machine as the graphics are a bit underpowered but perfect for all offie and pc work + watching DVD
Claiming battery life of near 7 hours or 3 DVDs but not sure that would be accurate
Probably more like 3 or 4 with wifi going etc
Full next day warranty for 12 months (can be extended)
This is a pretty good deal I think
$1499 less 15% = $1274 for the intro level which is 2.1c2D 2GB ram Vista Home 32bit
$1699 less 15% = $1444 for 2.1c2D with 6Gb ram but note this is Vista Home 64bit - some might not want 64 bit
Like always don't pay for upgrades to ram or hard drive unless you really want them covered under warranty as Dell overcharge
Plus don't buy the accessories as they are waaay over priced

Good luck with it :)
Thought I better finally post something here as I have benefited from others efforts
Thanks :)

XPS M1330 is now at the end of the road. The Studio XPS 13 is its replacement — hence the firesale that Dell is now offering on these extremely highly rated laptops.

    I configured this "Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz, 6MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB), 8GB RAM, 320GB HDD, TV Tuner" for $2103. A bargain indeed. IT's just a shame it's not a Centrino 2 processor :(

    • Note too at the moment Dell have a deal where they are giving you up to 8gb of ram as a bonus, which makes it pretty attractive

I had m1330.. entry level (C2D 1.66) regular lcd. was rubbish- screen replaced twice, wouldnt come out of standby (probably half vista's fault). static leak, high pitched noise (cpu i've been told), very loud slot loading dvd (that makes a noise every time you turn it on). nice looking however.

    • Dell machines are on the cheaper side assembly wise
99 out of 100 are good quality but the 1 machine that has a problem will be a lemon
Not that unusual - cars are the same these days
Sounds like you got the lemon
These XPS come with pretty good 12mth warranty which makes it a bit easier

  • Much better machine than the silly netbooks people carry around

    Noblejoker,
please do not start a flame war with people who owns & use one.

perhaps you do not see the use of a netbook….
or maybe am not in the market segment for one.

Apart from that… this is a good deal :)

    nice deal

currently own this laptop, in fact using it atm to post this comment xD
and well…7 hours is a little overestimated
unless ur on 7 hours with the lid closed the whole time =PPP
but on average i can do 2-4 hours at school depending on what apps
sometimes flash, sometimes word, just browsing the net
    or photoshop etc

    not a bad laptop
very good imo, but heats up quite a lot
keep a look out for cooling pads if ur getting this laptop

    • i got one last year on salary sacrifice prior to the new tax reforms
i use it for work daily and its great!
battery life is approximately 3-4hrs on XP (if anyone wants a guide on how to remove Vista, i'll post my blog link)

no issues with it, but it does heat up a bit as mentioned by che0173

recommended to get the OLED thin LCD screens
but the glossy screen can be annoying
      looks very nice though!

      • i agree!
i can't remember whether i got mine during the promotion times when there was free upgrade of the OLED screen or whether i added an extra ~$150 for it but it is wonderful

the range of brightness is amazingly stunning
it can go sooo low that u'll have to squint ur eye to see
or sooo bright that u have to close your eyes half way =PPP

XP is good, but in my opinion Vista is the same but with the eyecandy
and since ur battery life is similar to mine then i'd rather stick to it

oh and by the way, post us the link to your blog, i might take a look at how you installed it, probably just the normal way yea?

how'd u find the drivers too?

        • haha i tried using vista for a week and got fed up with the lag
put xp on it and it flew!

the battery life on a fresh xp installation is 4hrs
but im a heavy user and i run lots of stuff on it (web server, database server, software development kits, etc)

hmm the drivers, i cant remember.
most of them were readily available on the dell site, and others just needed a little google magic

          http://twigstechtips.blogspot.com/2008/06/dell-xps-m1330-wit…
          heres the link, enjoy!

          • @twig: lag…really?

wow mine doesn't lag at all xD

probably because ur a heavy user xD
            thanks for the link

I have had around 10 Dells in the past few years and this was the only one has disappointed me so thoroughly.

I can vouch for the warranty :) And it still is a very nice looking machine- people will stare.

Mine m1330 was 2.1kg which puts it in the portly category so I would prefer a Netbook if I was a roadwarrior.

There are two types of battery you can get with these, one that sits flush and one that sticks out like a tumor (I believe the tumor one will get you near the 7hrs).

I own the XPS M1530 which has been going well. The only dissapointing thing is that it only has 3 USB ports.

  • -1

-1 for Dell, never again after the Vostro fiasco. -1 if I could for bagging Netbooks.

    • +1

well as you can obviously read, this is the dell XPS M1330
      and not a vostro =PPP

  • Apologies if the Netbook comment got some backs up
I understand the portability aspect of netbooks and some of them are very good looking
But for me the usability issues outweigh the portability
Doesn't make sense to me, huddled over a little screen and kb
My lappie is 17" - even regular size was too small :)
If I need mobile internet a good phone can get me by in a pinch and it fits in my pocket
And some of the 10" netbooks are almost $1K these days
And performance for the dollar is low

All depends on your needs I guess
Anyway - whatever floats your boat - live and let live - your mileage may vary

How about this one - Aveagoodweekend!

The best rated netbook (eee 1000h) can be had for $600…

      • +2

he said some, not all =PPP

the Asus N10J which in my opinion is still a netbook, is costing around 1000 with the gpu
the Sony Vaio netbook is costing from $1599 at the lowest up to the $2299 model where all the sexy colours are =(

This laptop is QUALITY. I've got it and I love it - it has the whole package: Power, my friends all say it looks real good, it's practical, it's light.
Better quality than Acer/Twinhead, better looking than IBM/Lenovo, and good value too.

I actually have two batteries - the six cell lasts 5.5 hours, the nine cell battery lasts about 7 hours.
WLED screen is also very advisable —> extra skinny, looks better and can put it on brighter.
Definite thumbs up - it's some pretty decent savings.

    • +1

wow nice two batteries, let me ask you one question, how much does the extra battery cost?

Both 6 cell and 9 cell

And how can you order, i can't seem to find the batteries for dell laptops on their online store.

  • Oh, I actually got the 9 cell free coz of some issue I had… I think it costs about $170.
I just tried looking on the website - I can't find it myself! But, you can try Dell on the phone - im sure they can help you.

Oh, and by the way: If you want an extra good deal on Dell, then try bargaining over the phone. You may be able to get 1 or 2 upgrades thrown in, e.g. processor or servicing

    • +1

LOL procesor or servicing nicee xD

Wow $170 for a 9 cell battery is nice, quite….no VERY cheap for a 9 cell

ummm, how did you get yours for free? what issue did you have? =PPP
