Apparently different quality, plus as Toshiba does not officially have a storage division in Australia, mostly all Toshiba storage are grey stocks. In case that matters to anyone.

Plus, the deal (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/97843) is by Dicksmiths, one of the largest electronic retail stores. Even if, for a moment, we imagine that it were grey import, the warranty would still be covered by Dicksmiths since they are bounded by the Consumer Law to do so.
I would want to open up one. What's the drive connector on these? SATA?
I believe most of these portable 2.5" drives have onboard USB connectors (i.e. you can't rip them out & plonk them into your own lappy/sata port) which is a bugga when the controller dies because you can't slot them into a sata case to recover the data
