Chepeast Transport From Brisbane International Airport to Surfers Paradise

Can anyone suggest the cheapest way of transport for two adults to get from Brisbane International Airport to Surfers Paradise. We are away for 8 weeks & our scheduled flight arrival time into Brisbane is 06.05am.

  • If you look up the translink website they have a journey planner. It give times and fares. If you get a go card it offers better rates. http://www.translink.com.au/travel-information/journey-plann… .

Cheapest way means much less convenience. I have not done this myself, so I only know the theory. From the airport, you can catch a free bus to DFO. Then you need to find a bus to the nearest train station. Take the train to Nerang and continue by bus to surfers.
Are you looking for return transport or one way?

    • Interesting option it would save about $19 each taking the price down to about $12 each. It might be worth ringing dfo to find out running times. (From work of cause - this is ozbargain)

  • If you need to get around, hire a car!

I was in Brissy 3 weeks ago and a 20kmn cab fare was over $80 and it went around the outside of town.

  • I would highly recommend you look at hiring a car. It can be fairly cheap, especially if it's just the two of you and you can hire one of the smaller cars.

When we have travelled as a group of four we've found it to be most cost effective to hire a car just for the one day, drive from Brisbane down to Surfers, use the car that evening to go to Jupiters or somewhere for dinner, then return the car the next morning (or even just drop it off that night, cars can be returned at any hour). All for a very reasonable price in comparison to alternative options.

The major car companies all have rental spots within Surfers itself. Usually we use Avis or Budget which are quite centrally located in Surfers, Thrifty is a little further but still not too bad.

  • The train (and then a connecting bus) into Surfers would take you there directly - I personally would find that a more relaxing option that trying to drive.

Depending on what options there are from the airport link train you may not even have to change trains. The Translink website maximum mentioned above would tell you costs and if there are trains at that time of the morning from the airport.

  • Airlink (private) train to Brisbane. Change to a regular train to Nerang. Then bus to Surfers.
Airlink all the way to Nerang is $$$.
Or check out the shuttle services. Connextion comes to mind or Gold Coast Shuttle Bus or Point to Point Tours etc.

Can you fly into Gold Coast airport instead ? Then local bus to Surfers.

  • I would go with Leiiv's suggestion. I have done this myself….as the airtrain is expensive, $30 each to Surfers.
There is a free orange bus from outside the Brisbane terminals which loops around then and the DFO frequently.
From DFO you can catch a 369 bus to Toombul station, leaves every 15 mins.
If you start your journey at DFO, adult prices are::
    - before 9am it's 11.82
    - after 9am it's 9.46
    - those 2 above fares include Go Card, paper ticket bought on bus is $17.20

Extra 30 mins hassle is worth savings if you have time.
Check out Translink.com.au for details and times etc. You can also search site for getting Go Card, few places at airport sell them inc. train stations
