$59.99 BBQ Spit with AC Motor at Anaconda (50% off)

580

went to Anaconda yesterday and picked up a spit roaster. It's a decent size, can fit 4 chickens on it comfortably. I don't know if the motor can manage that kind of weight. I put two marinated chickens with herb/garlic butter under skin and had the best roast / smoked chicken I've ever eaten.

Seems fairly well cosntructed. Should last if not thrown around and treated with care.

Plenty of stock left at the logan (QLD) store.

Did you catch, kill and pluck the feathers off two chickens yourself?

lol i'm quite confused, it's like you know me. are you a member of QLDAF?

    From the specs.

High torque 8kg capable AC motor.

It's got a chance of doing 4 chooks. Balancing the load is what gets hard. From the pic, there is a weight on an adjustable peg just near the handle, it can help.

  • Is this similar with that they sell at Kmart?

    • Similar to whats at Bunnings and Aldi, Great value for the price

  • The price of the spitroast kit is comparable with the price of this product, it is indeed a bargain!

  • I'm very happy with the shipping cost too, only $15 to south coast NSW. I was expecting $50+ for delivery.

  • hmmmm, 8kg capacity … so no lamb / goat goodness …

    hmmm….spit roast….

This is the wrong website for that kinda thing…

can you put baby pig on it?

    • it is weighs less than 8kg then yes you can

    • Technically, a tiny one. If you can find it, and if you could be bothered with one that small. I

The place we get ours from, Melanda Park, you are looking at somewhere 11-12kg+.

      • just wondering how many kg the baby piggy that roasted at chinese restaurant.

  • Wow, I was just looking for a spitroast the other day. This looks pretty good but the 8KG limit really puts me off, and as Joannatan mentioned, I actually wonder if it would fit another animal (other than a standard fowl)

    • You could prolly fit a miniature bull on there, but maybe not the horns…

Tempted to neg because you made me so hungry at 10:30am.

  • Have always wanted a bargain on a spit roaster. Thanks OP!

can fit 4 chickens on it comfortably.

I'm not so sure the chickens would agree with you on this one.

  • how many bags of charcoal beads does it take to cook a chook, and can you use wood

    • 1 bag of heatbeads could do minimum of 2 chooks

    • +1

I've done a 24kg lamb with 20kg of mallee root charcoal. Used wood to get a good bed of coals before putting down the charcoal. If you wanted to cook 8kg of meat, I'd budget for 8 - 10kg of charcoal. But it will probably vary on what type of charcoal and type of meat, etc.

I used to use this thing at woolies called Loki. If I recall correctly, it was made out of sawdust and woodchips, and there were 4 octagonal shaped bricks in a pack. It caught fire quickly and we'd start cooking in about 10-12 minutes from lighting the fire. Add a bit of charcoal and everything was 10xawesome.

  • Might these be ideal for a camping trip? Or is the ac power a pain?

    • fine if you spend more money on generator.

There is a battery powered version, although think it may be at Bunnings

    • You can by 12v motors for them.

      • you could probably rig up your windshield wiper motor for a diy conversion

      • Has anyone found the 12v motors? I cant find them

        • the display at Anaconda actually had a 12v motor that ran on AA batteries. I was surprised when I opened the box to find a plug/lead…

  • Should put "Mini Spit" in the title.
I think some people may be confused about the size. (asking if you can put whole pigs/lambs on it)

For those wanting something a little more heavy duty (ie suckling pig capable), you're look at something like this:

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HEAVY-Spit-Roaster-Pig-Roast-BBQ-…

Past completed listings have it between $165-$190, not including freight. For 25kg capability, that's the cheapest "every day" price range I've been able to find so far.

  • was looking for one recently! got this, thanks OP :)

Rust will probably be the death of this thing. It seems painted, not enameled, by the specs. The paint will most likely burn off the inside and rust will set in. It'd be a good idea to clean it the day after using it and give it a spray with some canola or olive oil spray. It will keep it it great shape for years.

None at the Springvale store, but the fella told me to order online as postage was cheap. He was right, $7.85 to Bentleigh.

  • Thanks :) Any thoughts on their other bbq specials? Gasmate Team Grill?

  • Are these available for pick up instore (specifically Mile End Adelaide)?

  • Thanks OP. Got one. the Ex wife refuses to give me my Chimenea and I was looking for something to make a little fire in and sip some decent South African red wine…

  • Shucks back up ton$119 with no stock online ;@(

    • Back to $59.99 with stock.
