          I used to have a 1 litre stein I'd use when gaming. The handle couldn't cope with the sheer level of awesome and busted though.

          650 is a good compromise, and also a fantastic size for ginormous cocktails!

      Were the Aldi glasses made of borosilicate glass or just soda-lime? Borosilicate glass is much more resistant to thermal shock. (It expands less due to heat and won't crack when you suddenly pour boiling water in it.)

      Borosilicate is "Pyrex" glass, by the way… At least it was, until they cheaped out. "Pyrex Classic" is still the good stuff. It's also the glass used in pretty much all lab equipment.

      …I feel like some kind of infomercial now, I'm going to shut up.

          Point taken and no offence was intended. However you did ask what material the Aldi glasses were made of, and the fastest way to find out is to search for it.

    Is there a vacuum between the two layers of glass?

    Otherwise you're going to get condensation on the inside of the glass?

      I wouldn't expect it to be a problem if the inside of the glass is sealed with dry air.
