Thanks op, didnt get one but appreciate the heads up.

  • Tried to match price at another retail store, was told DSE was illegal to advertise when only small amount items in stock. Is it true?

    • Not illegal to advertise one car for sale.

      • Apple and oranges.

        or..
        Apple and cars.

        Either way. Unfair comparison.

  • They are time wasters, came in store at Robina QLD and was told someone bought it (last item sold and reserved in store which told by staff), they obviuosly doing dirty trick, just lodged a complaint to their headquarter and soon Fair Trade Dept. Never come back with DS

    • Before you complain to fair trading be advised I am on my way to Robina to pick up that iPad on hold for me… And before you ask I do not work at any DSE ;)

      • That's lucky since I was told they can't hold clearance items like this!

  • All are Dick-smithers

  • Also, they couldn't prove that the transaction happened as they couldn't prove it, plus if someone bought by coming in,no way they would leave the item in store

  • Wagga store has none either

  • +1

I was at the Mt Gravatt store (missed out) but it was clear the staff were getting annoyed with people calling up and asking if there were any. Their own fault for not updating the stock level on the website. I see it still says they have low stock.

  • +2

Highpoint has changed their phones message 'we are out of iPads!'

  • their phone lines would be hammered, thats why its just easier to say 'no stock', they don't care, it'll sell anyway

  • Website says canberra centre has stock. Just went there and the guy said all 3 have been put on hold for people. I told him if they dont come, give me a call and i will pay by credit card over the phone. He said he cannot hold them for me and i will have to check the store tomorrow. Sounds very dodgey!

    • Should have asked for the manager and told him you'd buy it at an extra $10

      • Yeah, should have slipped him a 10 or 20 under the counter? :)

  • None at Joondalup, WA

  • +1

Anyone tried to price match at apple store?

    • they dont stock them anymore :)

  • yes, confirmed Highpoint is out of stock
    and some others too.

    Store name Distance Stock level
    Moonee Ponds
    Highpoint
    Melbourne Bourke Street
    Sunshine
    Altona
    Vic Gardens
    Prahran
    Northland
    Camberwell
    Malvern

good luck to those who can find one
I already own an iPad 3 and I still want to buy another
    crazy me.

  • +4

the stores still listing low stock levels are preobably the ones where the staff have put them asaide for themselves and have not put them through the system because they are too busy telling everyone else they are out of stock.

    • +2

Have more faith in humanity :)

      • not when i was told i bought the last one, and whilst paying for it one attendant was turning away customers the other one was still handing them out.

they both exchanged eye contact as if the guy just gave away the items he set aside for himeself but wasnt quick enough to tell the guy that just started his shift. should have seen the look in his eyes it was like someone just run away with his lunch money ….

        • +2

That's just one case, cant say all stores are like that =]

        • There is numerous cases from numerous deals. DSE Should adapt a policy: Customer first. Or you wont have any left!

    • For people blaming staff, Aren't they human and everyone loves technology these days.. Its not just a cool towel on sale but a hot ipad..

  • +5

DSE is really a DICK !!!

    All WA stock gone.

The usual OzBargain community, no one's really thankful for getting one. Just the ones that complain. An if the ones that did get one ended up not getting one, it'll be another complaining comment. 3400 clicks, 120 comments. About 6 of those are actually saying thank you.

As I said, the usual OzBargain.

Too true. I haven't said thanks yet. So thanks to the OP for posting it.
I will be pissed off if my Dad ends up driving to Erina to pickup and it's not there though (it's for him, so he offered to go pickup). But I have faith in Scott at the Erina store doing the right thing by me! :)

    • See people putting on DSE Staff…. Rotten egg in the ozbargain chain !!

  • Couple of them selling on Gumtree for $600

    • some people stalk ozbargain as a daytime job flipping items :|

      • That's what I said about the 70-80 year old lady!!

  • There were like 4 stores in stock around me and I saw this within 1 minute. Thought it wasn't worth it because it's not Samsung. Regretted…. it's actually a good price as a gift for people like my gf who like this shit lol.

Ah well waiting for Galaxy Note 8.0 in 3G to go cheaper.

  • Where about

Apparently all the units sold out of Erina were refurb units….. anyone get a refurb, or a brand new unit?

    • How did you hear this? And are they sold out yet?

      • I had one on hold and when my dad went to collect it had a refurb stixer on it. The sales guy said all their stock were refurbs. It looked like Apple had replaced it as it looked brand spankers though.

        All were sold this arvo.

        • Was it still sealed in the box?

I didn't bother to call for a hold as I could only get there Fri/Sat :(

        • Was returned as having no sim tray. It's then sent to Dick Smith's main warehouse for processing and then shipped back out to store. All accessories still with plastic on them and sealed. The unit looks brand new to me, not a mark or print on it.

  • +2

To the admin - could you please mark as expired or out of stock as this product no longer exsist in dick smith please.

  • Doncaster still had stock (which is being sold before they recive it tomorrow) when i was there. Limit 1 per customer and only like 10 left.

    • Called 5 mins ago - all gone.

  • +4

Thanks OP, I managed to get one.

I don't get the hate for DSE. They have great prices when clearing items, so it should not be surprising that there is limited stock availability.

In the past I've missed out on items posted from DSE which is ok, I do not expect them to have plentiful stock on clearance.

  • None in Tassie :(

Some you win & some you lose :)

  • I managed to put white 64gb on order… Keeping my fingers crossed !!

    • I thought Nunawading had exhaused its preorder list.

      • I ordered from Bourke street. They told me they were getting 20 white ones.

Called northland, they were also getting 15 but already sold out even on customer orders
doncaster — Didn't wanna order and just said this is not possible

So maybe I get it or not. Don't know

  • +3

Got to my local Dick Smiths only to find that they don't sell iPad's…

  • +2

Contacted my local Dick Smith even though the website said they were out of stock, the guy there said he would check for me and low and behold he found one out the back and put it aside for me!! What a fluke chance.
40 mins later I was in the store and paid for it :)
Last one at the store though.. So no more available at Penrith sorry.

But definitely pays to call and dbl check even if the website says they are out of stock.

    • fluke indeed! every other store would have either been ozbargained or inundated with calls already!

    • doesnt pay to call most of the time they don't pick up, or engaged - try calling the parra branch during business hours.. doesnt work

  • -7

My advice is to boycott Dick Smith Stores until they start practising ethical advertising and prevent staff taken the special deals.!!!!

    • +8

Yeah, I will boycott them because I picked up a half priced Ipad…….. LOL

    • +7

Look, these aren't 'special deals', they are un-advertised clearance items that may have 1-2 per store, if any. I haven't even heard of anyone saying that the staff has taken any of these, but even if they did, so what? These aren't even advertised. They work there so they happened to hear about the deal and need an iPad. So they buy it. Honestly, if you worked somewhere and an item went on clearance that you wanted then you'd grab one.

The only time I'd see it as an issue is if a staff member is Brodening them, but so far we've only heard of us Ozbargainers doing that, not staff members.

      • +4

Agreed. If you work for an organisation you deserve some perks. Many people seemed to pick up an ipad or two, so it's obvious staff did not consume all the stock.

  • Quite a few have popped up on eBay and this one was for sure purchased today http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-APPLE-iPad-3rd-Gen-64gb-Wi-Fi…

I really don't understand why Dick Smith don't utilise eBay for items like these. Firstly, they would get more money and secondly it wouldn't cause all this commotion. I believe with eBay filters you can also stop Brodening buy limiting 1 sale per account. The Good Guys have most of their items listed on eBay. I think this would be a much smarter and much fairer approach to deal with clearance stock.

    • i think a limit of 1 per person, no reservation walk in only would have been a fair activity for everyone

some guy prepaid for 9? now I know his ebay account…

      • +2

I actually felt sorry for the staff. I was in the store for around 5-7 minutes. There would have been around 20 or more phone calls during that time enquiring about ipads. There we other customers in the store waiting to be served and the phone just kept ringing and ringing.

    • It's just not worthwhile to hire someone just for this sort of thing. The items are not centrally located, which makes it difficult to distribute especially since some stores have none. It's not really about fair, it's not easy for them to do a system wide policy change due to ozbargain. If it's a real issue for them, they can always request DSE deals not be posted.

      • +3

Not posting here? That would defeat the purpose of clearing the old stocks. They honestly don't care who gets them, how many and who misses them, cash up is the only thing they care. One smart rep commented here all sold out in xxx store is to tell us not to call its store and ask anymore.
But OP is the hero of ozbargain of the day.

  • I missed out on stock at inaloo by 5 miins :(

However did anyone see the 8gb 4th Gen iPod touch refurb for $30…I got that , so semi-happy :)

    • Mind telling me any more of the 8gb iPod 4th gen refurb left? Thanks

      • had label on it saying returned by customer as had problems charging but tried it and no probs but still get warranty so any issues they said I can bring it back. For $30 why not!

Plus I am mainly using it on a speaker dock with its own power source.

        • Thanks. So is it the last one you bought from inaloo dse? Any more left?

  • +2

I got the last one at Burwood Westfield

I talked to the Manager at ~ 2pm and he agreed to keep it for me. I then asked the Misses to pick it up on her way home so she got their at 5pm. The staff denied that their was one on hold even though she told them that it was reserved in her name.

She called me and i had a talk to the salesperson which i eventually got him to call the Manager who already finished and left home.

After 10 min, an iPad 64Gb appeared from nowhere.

    • +1

And everything was right in the world.

    • The more I read about these stories the more I think people don't have any morals. Makes me more sceptical of people more so than I already am.

    • -2

sorry cant feel sorry for someone who reserved stock to keep it from other bargainers who legitimately went into the store to pay for it then and there. it costs a significant amount to travel to the store and leave empty handed.
      a low act.
but if you cant beat em join em.
so i will reserve stock at multiple stores now, all hail the new code of the 'bargainers.

  • besides doncaster, northland, nunawading, where else is receiving more stock?

    • Those stores are all denying they are getting more stock.
