Apparently it's a Manager's Special and maybe avaiable at your local DSE store.
Good luck finding one at your favourie DSE. Plenty of stock at Highpoint VIC for those nearby.

          Sorry just to clarify, nunawading took preorders and they have all been exhausted. There will be no other stock after those. The other two stores said straight out no more stock.

          I doubt they will honor preorders for clearance items even if you've paid full in advance. DSE can just simply refund you like they have always done it before. Nowadays if you don't walk out of the door with the items you paid for I'll say the deal is not done.

          Confirming that i picked up my pre-ordered ipad this morning from Nunawading, Dick Smith held up their end of the bargain and received the 20 pre ordered ipad in today

        No, some stores were offering it and some were not. For example if you look at the OP's receipt he was charged $349.50 for the ipad. Other stores were putting the ipad through at $249.50 and giving Applecare for $99 making the total $349.50.

        Those that got the Applecare can cancel it within 30 days, directly with Apple, and get refunded the $99, or after 30 days $99 less a cancellation fee. See the following link for details http://support.apple.com/kb/HE52

          cancelling that to make a profit would amount to fraud. But some of apple's practices are fraudulent so go ahead!

          Not cancelling to make a profit. Simply don't need it nor want it. Apples T&Cs explicitly state AppleCare can be canceled any time. It's not an offence to cancel your AppleCare plan.

          You'd have a hard time convincing a judge that you needed to cancel $3 worth of insurance (and go through all the trouble) to get a net of $296 in cancellation refunds simply because you didn't need or want it.

          The AppleCare has not been charged as $1, it has been charged at its regular price of $99. There is no hassle to cancel an AppleCare plan. I have done it before when I sold my iPhone before the plan had run out. Takes all of 2 minutes to submit your paperwork to Apple.

      I asked the sales person if he could do subtract the amount as OP got. He charged me $1 extra and subtracted the rest from ipad. I think I will keep the apple care as its already a bargain price and warranty can always be handy. I don't really wanna indulge in consumer affairs about statuary warranty when I can easily have it now. Too much greed doesn't really pay off !!

        http://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/ go through claim period under Australian consumer law then you will know a reasonable person expects a tablet pc lasts more than 2 years. Unless you need the 2 year tech support otherwise AppleCare is rubbish.
        Edit: I tried asking an Apple store rep if he would fix my 2 months out of warranty ipad as some of the apps didn't work and seemed to have OS crash. He said np when would want to have your appointment. BTW, seems like the AppleCare refund is from Apple not DSE, which Apple does not have Greed in its dictionary.
