Previous discussions — What Happened to PricesEngine? (Aug 2010)

PayPal can withhold fund once it detected potential fraudulent activities, for example sudden increase of incoming funds. However sometimes it's legitimate for merchants running promotions to get sudden rush of transactions, and if the turn around time for resolving PayPal-issue is not fast enough, it could kill off a merchant.

        • Thanks. I just read that post. The only thing we know for sure is that PayPal were withholding funds from them, but there is no definitive answer as to why. (unless you know something that we don't know)

Your suggestion is the most likely scenario going by the comments there.

I have no idea either. I've actually never shopped there nor know anyone from PricesEngine. However if you google "paypal withholding funds" and you'll see that this kind of things definitely happen before. I think PayPal is doing their job of protection the users (which is a good thing), but might need quicker turn around time because cashflow is usually crucial to small merchants.

6th article from Rachel Wells in a week from Fairfax about ClickFrenzy. Got to give it to the ClickFrenzy folks, they know how to push their stories to the media however Fairfax may want to make it less obvious. ;)

    • CF hailed a success !!!
      What ! How ?

Just because the servers didn't crash this time doesn't mean it was a success !
      Anyone with me ?

      • Considering there were half the people who participated last time.

Last year there were 2mill people wanting to get access to Click-Frenzy's site at 7pm. This year? 200k.
They also apparently only clocked over the 1mill mark around lunchtime the next day (some 16-17hrs into it).

I did have at a couple of sellers directly. If anything can be taken out of this, I hope retailers cut out the "Click-Frenzy" advertising, invest the cash saved into their online operations, and just all have their own sales on a particular date. It's not like Click-Frenzy seems to do much anyway - the deals aren't for their own subscribers only, they simply redirect traffic to each company's site, and personally I've seen bugger-all advertising anyway.

Just got refunded a sandisk micro sd from from mobicity.

    Annoyed!

    • did they say why? hope that doesn't happen to my order! :/

      • in my case, they claimed to have oversold their stock.

        weak.

  • Poorer deals than the last CF. won't be bothered with the next one now
