  • I wonder whether people would actually splash out $300 bucks for an 'universal' remote.

    • Well when you consider that a top end TV can be something like $4000+ and sound systems too are also just as, if not more, expensive then $300 isn't a huge amount (especially after TV Cabinets and other furniture).

Sure the $300 isn't for everyone…but in the scheme of things it may not be that much of a hit price wise for a top end home theater setup.

  • I'm definitely not one of them. :)

I dont see how this is a bargain…

So the bargain is use a free remote for 30 days and then return it?

  • Where's the bargain here? Trade Practices Act already protects my consumer rights so what's new? And what's cheap?

    • I've actually wanted to try one of these to see if they were worth buying. My consumer rights don't allow me to do this whereas this would.

Haven't DSE always had a 30 day money back guarantee? I know i've bought other hardware from them in the past tried it, and returned it within 30 days without issue.

    • I believe they do

    • No.. DSE has 14 days return policy excluding "consumed" DVDs/CDs/catridges/prepaid cards

  • The Harmony series of remote are fairly awesome.
I have the 800 and it does internet based programming and allows for multiple "activities" If you have a TV, amp, Foxtel, PVR, Xbox 360 and iPod and want ONE controller, then that is why you spend $200+ on a remote. Pity they don't do BT as well, then I could ditch the PS3 one.

I press 2 buttons and am watching whatever device I want, and then don't have to worry about which controller does volume, channel, etc.

that said, I wouldn't want to use 2 hands for the remote, ala the 1000i

    • Logitech have just released a PS3 adapter for the Harmony remotes. A bit pricey - $60 RRP or so from memory.

      • US$59.99 RRP -> some AUS etailers are currently listing it for between AUD$75 & $90 but none have stock currently as its yet to be released here and as it used a power adapter, its harder to just import.

  • The 525 also has net based programming and I got from DSE for $41 back in Dec. 525 does all the work the others do, just not rechargeable (you can use rechargeable batteries though if you like) and not as aesthetically refined. Those touch screen ones are too big IMHO.

Anyway, not really a bargain but if you can get a price match like I did, peace of mind of great after-sales service and return policy

  • I should've bought the 525 back when it was cheap…..now its around $100.
