3 Months Free Streaming TV & Movies from Presto Via Telstra

4700
TEL515

UPDATE: See this comment. Presto has changed the free months to 3 (instead of 6).

Telstra are giving T-Box customers 6 months of free Presto - but it's just a coupon code so can't see why it wouldn't work for everyone.

Make sure you access it through presto.com.au/telstra - fill in your details, confirm your email address, then choose the $14.99 a month plan and apply the coupon code in the box below it and it will give you 6 months 3 months of free Presto.

Presto has it's flaws, the catalogue is a bit average especially for TV - I think Netflix and Stan are better, but it's pretty great for free.

You've got until June 30 to take up the offer and you do need to provide credit card details - just make sure you cancel before the trial is up if you don't want to be charged.

Enjoy!

I think that was ONLY for parental controls page, as 18+ is never suitable for under 18's (according to them anyway).
You should have full access but the pin you created earlier in the set-up will only allow what you were able to check in that screen.

      if that makes sense..

Didn't refresh page, looks like someone answered it from the FAQ :)

      • For the content controls didn't you come across this screen?
Looks like it is not possible to unlock 18 content , so you'll always need a pin.

        http://i.imgur.com/Ga7O9u0.png

        • I was able to unlock it through the ipad app. You just tap the R18 then enter your PIN.

  • Is this like the worst signup page scripting or what? SO MANY ERRORS.

edit: Seems to have issues with chrome, likes firefox better.

  • I used it last night, tried to watch the Sopranos on the T-Box, then I notice how the audio is out of sync.

    • +1

If that bad people will cancel it even before the 6 months period lol …

Just watching it on my office PC seem not even 720p and no subtitle, etc.

      • Presto is ONLY in HD. How Foxtel thinks they will compete with Netflix with very few ways of getting the content onto your TV (pretty much Tbox and Chromecast only) and with SD only is beyond me.. they have the resources to take on Netflix by making apps for every internet enabled device known to man and offer HD. They simply choose not to.

        • Your first sentence contradicts the following ones. Is it HD only or SD only?

        • +5

Good i hope Foxtel burn and die, they really really deserve to.

        • +2

@Flying Ace: Sorry ONLY in SD

        • +1

          @SirFlibbled:

Is thats SD? It looks rather inferior to SD to me. Over-compressed?

        • +1

@manic: I have no idea. I don't work for them but that's how they market it. I've never used the service so I can't comment on the quality of the feed.

Maybe if they have people cancel sighting the crappy quality of the video they might be compelled to fix it. Most likely it's on purpose so that they keep as many people sucking the Foxtel teet for as long as possible.

        • @SirFlibbled:

A close look shows it is 405-line, which is near enough to SD. Like iView, the poor quality is probably due to too low a bit rate for the codec and res.

        • @manic: Probably because they only support mobile phones and no other apps and so they only support quality good enough for mobiles.

        • @morgs640:

          Ohh the hate, the hate!
Their fees up until just recently have been despicable, I'll grant you that.

        • @SirFlibbled: my phone has a 1080p screen and they provide less than 720p so it looks kinda crap on my phone even :(

        • @Agret: At least your phone is supported.

  • I have signed it, and got the message from my android phone, "You can't watch Presto on a jailbroken device", what a luck,

    • +7

Just tried on my iPhone 5 and got "You can't watch Presto on a rooted device", what a double luck

      • similar issue, my lg g3 was rooted, my android box was rooted, both aren't working,

        • can try removing tick in against 'enable Superuser' in settings of SuperSU. (temporary solution only)
used to work for me on FoxtelGo

Just tried on my iPhone 5 and got "You can't watch Presto on a rooted device"

Try downloading xcon or officer from cydia.

        • +2

Thanks.. Downloaded xcon, worked like a charm. Anyone with jailbroken idevice, I can confirm that presto works after installing xcon. Didnt try the other app though.

        • @canon1989: awesome, thanks for the info.

      • Doesn't work on jailbroken iPhone or iPad? Not even going to bother then.

      • I could never get Foxtel Go to work on a jail broken device. Unless there is some way to hide the jailbreak from the app?

      • My Android tablet is rooted but can still output through Google Chromecast.

  • Anybody else having trouble with the verification email? I click the link in it and all I get is a blurred screen and I can't continue my order.

    • Try changing your browser. Then copy link and paste

      • I've tried Chrome, Firefox & Safari and still no luck :(

EDIT: Turns out the link they sent me was broken :/ tried a different email address and it worked. Cheers for trying to help.

        • Thats the problem
          Try in IE ;-)

        • @dealman: Not if they have a mac. Opera might work.

        • +1

@RockyRaccoon: Turns out it was to do with the link they sent me. Signed up with my uni email and it worked fine. Thanks for the suggestions everyone :).

    • +1

Try to sign in. It will say you are already in the middle of signup and you will see a link in the text to continue

    • +2

all I get is a blurred screen

Sounds like it's streaming already! :p

    • I got too but if you scroll down the page heaps you will find the form. Such a crappy service lol

  • +1

Just signed up. Don't think I'll use it, but set 6 reminders in sept to cancel. heh.

  • So the only way to watch this via your TV is using Google chromecast?

    • +1

Chromecast, T-Box, or via a computer hooked up to your TV.

    • you could use web browser on any console

      • I was hoping for a app or thingy like Quickflix uses on a TV

      • Tried to watch it with my PS4 browser and when I pressed play it asked me to download and install Flash.

  • +1

No problems signing up, thanks OP!

  • +2

For some reason I couldn't enable R rated content.. anyone else have this problem? Probably because they can't show it on TV?

    • +1

I covered this above. So hold onto your frustration…. :)

  • +4

Signed up no problems but when i try and play something it says "upgrade and play" :(

    • I have the exact same problem. When I go to upgrade it says "Payment method validation failed."

      • +1

Go into settings - reapply the promo code - hit the subscribe button, enter your PIN, then scroll to the bottom and press "save"

        • Doesn't work. I get

Payment method validation failed. Unable to create subscription to 097c7cd008ccf7b8c605731832c5ef7400590e8f for customer 7fb4269e-73dc-4240-ae37-778b38d47e8c.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Signed up no problems.

  • Does anyone receive an error message "Payment method validation failed."?

    • +2

Yes. Both with a fake cc number and a real one:(

  • Thanks OP!

  • Cheers OP

  • Is it just me or is the R18+ blocked when you set the ratings?

    • +1

      As RockyRacoon said:

      >
      from their faQ's

Just to clarify, as a Presto account holder, you are able to access every piece of content on the service, but for those rated higher (which in turn have restricted access), you'll need a PIN to access these. This is designed to ensure that if you're sharing your account with younger members of your family, that they'll not be easily able to access mature content by simply clicking to view.

You can still view content with any rating on the service, but in the cases of higher rated mature content will need to enter your Presto Account PIN.

      • Saw it as soon as I posted. Let me delete comments Ozbargain.

        • Dont bother we all make mistakes - I'll forgive you :)

  • got a tbox saw it come up the day netflix came out was gunna post about it on ozbargain cos i signed up yesterday lol

Umm just a question, Where is the cancellation option?! Theres only an option to downgrade, or to close my account!

    • +2

Isn't Account Cancellation and Closure the same thing?

I've just set myself a reminder to close my account in 6 months.

      Not accurate

It says Orange is the new black on netflix and I am pretty sure its on Foxtel

      • -1

Do you have a more accurate comparison?

Not a stab at you or anything, I just think it'd be a good FYI for everyone :)

It's a good starting point for most people. Hopefully people do their own research if their favourite shows are really on that list :)

      • +1

It's on both, so it is accurate. Also Season 3 will be available in its entirety on Netflix Australia on June 12, the same day as the US.

        http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/netflix-aus…

      • Orange is the new black is produced by Netflix so of course it's available on Netflix

        • There was rumour that because Foxtel had the Australian broadcast rights Netflix would have to wait until it had fully aired on Foxtel before it could release it to Australian customers without violating it's agreement with Foxtel.
This appears not to be the case.

Where can see wee the expiry date of this trial or when the next bill is due?

    • When I go to Settings > Billing, I see:

      Next subscription payment
      $0.00 on 26/04/2015
      Amount
      100% off for 6 months
You will be charged $0.00 per month for the first 6 months, then $14.99 per month there after

  • presto has game of thrones yea?

    • +1

      Nah.. Only Foxtel

      • +9

        stops completing registration details

  • Can't watch presto on rooted Android device

    • +1

Damn. Tried RootCloak or something similar?

  • So, do I need to buy a settop box or receiver something? Or Telstra sends me a package?

    • No..u can just stream on your computer or tv

  • I just signed up, set a reminder on the phone and yeah.. presto won't last long if it can't offer HD content.. the website/player on windows is a bit ordinary, compared to netflix..

    • Its a freebie..cancel within 6 months..

      • +1

That's even it survives another 6 months…..hard to believe anyone will pay for this.

      • I have.. but still.. $15/month for SD content, and the range isn't overly exciting either.. small amount of AU content..

        • Well I gather you've stopped paying now, and opened a new account with the trial code?

        • Pls pls tell us you have opened a new account now!!

        • +1

sorry for the confusion.. I created a free account.. no way i'd pay any money for this.. I already have Netflix US, so this is, by comparison, rubbish.. lol

Trust foxtel to serve up sh$t

  • +3

all these companies really need to make the app for samsung/lg etc. its much easier to get into people lounge room via this manner than forcing people to buy chromecast etc. netflix will dominate easy as they are preinstalled on most smart tvs

    • Getflix and Netflix are both on the ps4 and my dad's bravia TV. The only way to get presto on TV is via chromecast or hooking a pc up. What a joke.

  • TEL215 is good for three months I think. Unfortunately, I doubt it can be combined…

  • App is not compatible with the Nexus 6? I guess I'll just stick to Netflix then.

  • +1

wont work on my rooted android phone
    worst

  • quality is really crap…. this should be free.. !!

    • +1

      it is free :p

Am subscribed. But cannot get it to work much.

Android HTPC: I get a portrait mode splash screen with hand scribbled text "Version 0.000000001 very very draft" and then it crashes.

On tablet running cyanogenmod and 4.4, I get a "Foxtel Go" logo, also portrait mode, and then it crashes.

kid's tablet: "error, package file was not signed correctly".
    phone: same install fail.

Mac PC: plays in Flash (Isn't that deprecated, even by Adobe!?) low-res, poor picture quality, hard-coded subs. Even ABC iView is better than that!

Linux : launches flash player, but black screen.

Very disappointing. Even when it works, the picture quality is too awful for movies. Its like VHS. Please give us DVD quality at least.

And then there is the catalogue. I know lots of people with bigger and better personal collections :-)

EDIT:** I had the wrong Android app. You want id=com.foxtel.presto, not id=au.com.foxtel.Presto . Both apps have very bad reviews.
Now instead of crashing, it gives a playback error. WOFT.

    • Best comment: "Even ABC iView is better than that!"

  • Presto charged A$1 for card validation.

    • +1

they all do… give it 7 days and it'll be removed..

  • Similar question.. anyone have foxtel go through their android phone? Does chromecast work with it? I want to watch the AFL on my tv..
