3 Months Free Streaming TV & Movies from Presto Via Telstra

4700
TEL515

UPDATE: See this comment. Presto has changed the free months to 3 (instead of 6).

Telstra are giving T-Box customers 6 months of free Presto - but it's just a coupon code so can't see why it wouldn't work for everyone.

Make sure you access it through presto.com.au/telstra - fill in your details, confirm your email address, then choose the $14.99 a month plan and apply the coupon code in the box below it and it will give you 6 months 3 months of free Presto.

Presto has it's flaws, the catalogue is a bit average especially for TV - I think Netflix and Stan are better, but it's pretty great for free.

You've got until June 30 to take up the offer and you do need to provide credit card details - just make sure you cancel before the trial is up if you don't want to be charged.

Enjoy!

      • The Foxtel Go app is coded to block HDMI out (MHL & Slimport). It will work if you cast the screen via the Chromecast app or native casting if your device supports it.

        • Not true, or at least, it worked for me about 2 weeks ago from my laptop to tv using micro HDMI to HDMI.

I haven't tried from phone. If chromecast works then the harvey norman deal on here should get the job done without issue for $34.

        • @s4sep:

Yeah laptops seem to work with HDMI out, but Vlado was asking about an Android phone and you suggested an MHL cable which from my experience won't work.

With an Android phone or tablet using MHL or Slimport you'll get an error in the Foxtel Go app saying:

"Sorry! Video playback is not available via an external display. Please remove your display connection to continue."

        • Yeah.. I'm specifically after Foxtel Go on Android, as I already use it on my PC but the PC app has no Foxtel Footy (AFL).. it's only on the android app..

Can't really find a definitive answer anywhere..

          @Vladdo:
Screen casting GO to a Chromecast works for me on 3 different android devices so you should be OK.

        • @lucjack: excellent.. thanks for that lucjack.. just bought a chromecast for $33 :)

  • Thank you. worked for me. :)

  • Hmm think my smart DNS is messing with it. Try to stream a video and it says "sorry this is only available inside Australia". I'm using unotelly for US netflix and hulu etc.

    • I ran my own standard DNS server, and it was enough to break iView. Its stupid to rely on DNS for geolocation. Easy to defeat, and easy to get false results.

Also in regards to Presto itself. No idea why anyone would actually pay for this service over netflix or even Stan. The amount of content is tiny and te fact it is more expensive but doesn't even include HD streaming is a joke. Also the lack of console/star tv apps is a big fail, as with Stan.

    • +2

The reasons I'd consider subscribing - access to Australia foxtel produced shows (like Wentworth) and more recent movies.

But that's really about it. I'm leaning towards Stan rather than Presto for my third service (after Netflix and Hulu)

      • -3

I'm leaning towards Stan rather than Presto for my third service

They both suck. Try iView for local content.

        • Does iView have the Foxtel exclusive shows? I wasn't aware it did.

Nor does iView have much of anything I would want to watch beyond what I do watch already (Good Game and Q&A).

    • +1

Right! Free is a great price lol, but I don't think I'd really use it.
I would maybe get this if there as a WD TV or Google Chrome app but I don't want to watch it on my phone or Lappy.

I haven't been able to find any R rated content on Presto yet. Could someone please name at least one R rated title for me so I can make sure my pin number works?

  • Well some things refuse to even start, and those that do are so jerky I can't possibly watch them… that's on Bigpond Cable, that streams USA/UK Netflix without any issues so not sure what the problem is. Glad I am not paying for it!

    • +2

      Murdock=jerky :)

  • Pity I can't watch the live TV (like CWC) on Presto..

  • worked for me, thx

  • -4

Hang on a minute - you've set up this account to get $90 of service that your not entitled to. In 6 months time when they sus it's a the fake credit card with the name Mickey Mouse set up with a Mailinator email account that no longer exists, it's pretty clear you never had any intention to pay. Couldn't Foxtel then could come after you for the money? They'd have a log of you IP address and see that you're not a Bigpond customer then ask your ISP for your details or get the cops too as isn't this the definition of fraud?

Is it really any different to me registering a Spotify Premium account for $12 for 3 months over Christmas, paying by PayPal and then cancelling by asking PayPal to put a stop on the payment rather than cancelling with Spotify directly?

  • Used the code worked fine. Thanks!

    • then why havent you used the positive vote as well???

      • +4

there's not much positive about Presto

        • That maybe the case, but usually you give thanks by voting for the deal, and dillyz has said the same. Probably dioesnt understand how voting works.

      • +1

why havent you used the positive vote as well???

take a look at the content, it is CRAP

      • +3

I am new to commenting and didnt know, didn't realise you were the voting police

        • -1

I wasn't policing you I just asked a question, which the "police" seemed to think wasn't appropriate… :)

Like when I said you probably didn't understand…

          All is good anyway.

  • Thanks OP. Signed up for 6 months trial.

  • Signed up and cancelled it. My Sony Z1 isn't compatible and I'm not buying a new phone anytime soon. Which is ridiculous because I was able to use Netflix on an iPhone 4…

  • Well, signed up lunch time. Got home and log in, BAM! "You currently are not subscribed to any entertainment packages. Please choose a package to continue."

I guess they are removing people :)

  • +1 for the freebie.

Bit of a hassle to get going. My android tablet got playback errors. Safari got DRM errors. Chrome finally came through and I can Airplay to the AppleTV. But wow the quality is bad - like everyone else is saying.

    • +1

They only have Standard Definition, pretty bad when the other services offer HD and have better prices.

  • Worked for me, can't believe they didn't see this coming.

  • +1

Cheers OP, too bad the hardware support for Presto is miserable.

  • why am i getting the DRM error when I am just using Chrome on a PC?

  • no app support samsung smart tv, very disappointed.

    • No app support for anything other than a a few android phones and iphones.

  • +5

I have US Netflix. Judging by the comments here I don't think I will sign up Presto. I prefer hassle free and HD experience.

  • +2

Might consider making a second account right before the coupon code expires so i can get about 9 months of subscription

  • +2

Wow - with that library $0/mo is all its worth.

A couple good shows and movies, but certainly not enough to pay for!

  • Signed up works fine on chromecast using android app on s4 but as previously stated the quality is shit. Thanks anyway op.

  • Thanks.. 6 months free streaming service!

Doesnt work on my jailbroken devices and cant work out how to install it to my nexus player… oh well.

  • do we need a tbox?

    • I'm not even a telstra customer and it worked. In saying that I would rather pay for netflix than get this for free.

      • true

        but free is free

        • +4

          but free is free

          Herpes is free too…

  • Anyone know how to bypass the Android root blocker?

  • What device are you guys thinking of using for presto?

    • +5

      A hammer

    • something with a 3" 320x240 screen.

    • My Acer A1-830 tablet works fine but not on the rooted Galaxy Nexus phone.

    • Nothing because they barely support any devices and my phone isn't supported (you know being from a major brand and all).

  • +5

not worthy of all the plus votes it's getting.
    -crap range
    -low definition
-hardly works on any devices (see this)

Free To Air TV has better value.

    • Yeah crazy that you can use a Mac to stream via a device but not an Apple TV.

  • Anyone one unsubscribing yet?

    • Yep. Can't use it so the last thing I want to do is risk forgetting to cancel later.

  • I can't seem to find this on my samsung smart TV. Looking at the website the only options for viewing are ios, android and samsung tv's. What gives?

    • Yeah, it seems according to their support pages, people have been asking for smart tv apps since day dot and they just keeping getting the same "accessibility is really important to us and its on our to-do list" sort of response. At this point, I can only watch it in a browser because of no app in my tv and no supported app on my phone.

Speaking of apps, anyone else find it a bit silly that they don't restrict their android app to supported platforms/phone models through the play store rather than making you find out after running the damn thing that your device isn't supported?

  • How to unlock R18+ content from Presto account?

    • I was just wondering that.

      • try watching a r18 film you need to enter your pin each time.

        • Is there any R18 movie?

      • It can only be unlocked using the app (worked from my iPad)

  • soon our crappy copper network will fizzle out with all these streaming deals!

  • -2

This is unmetered via BIG Pond?

    6 months?

    100% off for 6 months

You will be charged $0.00 per month for the first 6 months, then $14.99 per month there after

    Promotion valid until: 30/06/2015

    more like 3 Months Free

    • Read the OP. Can be redeemed by 30/06

      • +1

        hahaha stupid me

  • Will this work on android tv stick? I tried and unable to play every title.

  • Not working - trying to top up existing account. is this code only for new sign ups?

  • +1

Think they put it down to 3 months.

    • Not per post above… Just tried and only offering 3 months.

  • +3

Just checked my account and they have changed it to 3 months (it was definitely 6 months when I signed up earlier). No email to advise me of this though.

  • Just signed up, only 3 months for me as well.

  • +3

Mine also changed from 6 months to 3 months!!! dodgy

  • Yeap.. just logged in as well and it was changed from 6 to 3 months.. Typical foxtel/telstra shenanigans.. and I implore anyone else who doesn't want their account anymore to close it now.. I'm not even willing to let foxtel list me as a 'subscriber' just so they can boast about sub numbers..

Hope you go away very soon presto..

  • they have charged $1 on my credit card :D

    Edit : verification

  • When I put in the code 'TEL515' I'm being told "You will be charged $0.00 per month for the first 3 months, then $14.99 per month there after"; anyone else getting this?

  • Me too. So dodgy.

  • +1

hey presto ………..and its gone ……………just like that boom boom

apologies to the estates of Basil Brush, Tommy Cooper and all the other comedy greats for assocating punchlines with Telstra. No seriously …

edit the thread title has changed retrospectively to 3 months as well…….. hey presto shazam and the thread will soon dissapear entirely!

  • +1

yup…changed from 6 months to 3 months. Signed up this morning. Just checked my account and they changed the free period to 3 months.

  • +2

Yep, mine also changed from the 6 months it said before to only 3 months today. I mean, I know I'm getting it for free and I'm not a t-box customer, but how can they do that and change the offer after I've signed up?

    • +1

legally they can't………….. but hey since when did oz retail laws be applied to a big player?

  • @dmac80 Where did the original code come from? Was this definitely a 6 month offer or was a 3 month offer they are now fixing?

    • yes it was a 6 month offer…….

      • +1

Let me rephrase that - does anyone have any actual email, communications, links to show that the code was supposed to offer 6 months? For those who dont have a T-Box it is still a bonus but for those who do then they are being cut short.

  • why ask that ?

the 6 months offer still running - code has changed though - looks like they changed all non- tbox holders by some method from 6 to 3 illegally - presumably via address?

    • I ask because I tried finding something to show that the TEL515 code was directly linked to the 6 month offer to then take a look at the Terms and Conditions. I can't find anything so I was asking the community here if anyone had. In regards to the 'illegally' changing non T-Box from 6 to 3 months I am not sure where your definition of illegally comes into play seeing that non T-Box customers were never supposed to receive this deal. If they have in fact picked upon the fact that people not eligible are receiving this deal and instead of canceling their membership have instead given 3 months then this is a goodwill offer by Presto/Telstra.

        • +4

Wow. If you want to get back to facts lets look at them. An offer was made to T-Box customers. Non T-Box customers found out about the code and attempted to gain from a promotion they were not eligible for. It appears (this is where it gets grey) that Telstra/Presto have found out about this and have reduced the offer, which non T-Box holders were not eligible for, down to 3 months.

Your logic of "if I could do it then it should be ok" is severely flawed and does not fit any law imaginable. If you were legitimately eligible for this offer and they then took it away - I would be totally on your side. But the fact that you weren't and are now crying 'consumer rights' is amazing. You say that Presto broke the contract?? In fact, it is you that is not abiding by the terms of the offer. I do not understand where this right of entitlement comes from.

It was an offer that many were not eligible for - there was an attempt to benefit from it - it did not completely work out. How are Telstra/Presto the bad guys in this? Grow up and act like an adult if you are in fact an adult. If not, go ask your parents to explain for you.

        • +3

@rolly2112: Calling people names? Not sure where that came from. The tone of your comments (on this post and others) suggests some severe conspiracy concerns rattling around in your head. Be sure to look out the front for the big black van before you go to bed tonight. In regards to the Terms and Conditions - yes, you are correct I dont have these so instead I am going back to the pure basics of the post as it was written "Telstra are giving T-Box customers 6 months of free Presto", this does give an indication that if you are not a T-Box customer the offer is not for you. I have presented a logical argument in this discussion, unfortunately I am still awaiting the same from you, apart from I got away with it so I should be able to have it. I really hope no-one ever manages to steal your car with that logic.

Oh, and by the way, my intentions are to get amusement from discussions with individuals like yourself :)

        • -7

Calling people names when the truth about your purpose here is so obvious its amusing in its puerile obnoxiousness.

You do not want people affected raising complaints about bad faith.

keep those negative votes going my way you sweet little stalker………….

        • @rolly2112: Now you are just repeating yourself. At least make this interesting for everyone.

        • -4

keep those negative votes going my way you sweet little stalker………….

say's all there is to say about sweet little you

        • @rolly2112: Aww shucks. You think I am sweet. That has made my night :)

  • Anyone have a list of supported devices? Samsung S4 (not rooted) or nexus 10 ?

Also, would this be free data on Telstra cable connection?
