imo the jb bundle represents better entertainment value overall, depending on age and taste.

Assuming you got through. My chrome page is still trying to get through (everytime I get in: "EB Games is under heavy load right now!"). What's the best tactic, sit and wait to see if it loads or keep refreshing?

Possibly the most annoying thing is having items in your cart then getting to the payment page and they are gone. I wonder if it's possible for ebgames to implement a system to reserve items for sixty minutes until checkout? It would save them a lot of bad PR.

Yeah.. i found if u get a page loaded.. click Open in new tab on the item you want.. less pressure on each individual page.. though the main pages are dying a slow death
i remember when catchoftheday did its first bday bash and had lots of things for dirt cheap.
They said they were working on the servers, but someone working there leaked out.. they couldn't do a thing but eat pizza and read comments on whirlpool..
bet u ebgames is doing the same thing.. No way they can increase alot of bandwidth in such a short time…

I guess that depends on who they are with, things are quite flexible these days, if you want to increase your bandwidth for a short period of time, most decent hosting company/carrier/DC can accommodate that with enough notice, but obviously that is going to cost $$$$.
chances are, like any other businesses out there, IT is a cost, and therefore it should be avoided and slashed where ever possible, if it blows up in your face, just blame the IT guy/team………

They shut down their entire site that not even their staff in store can check stock for days. Maximising exposure and expecting heavy load, especially near the start of the sale. I'm sure there are a lot of people trying to get in but at 12:30am you would think they may get this kind of traffic on one of their usual busy days during the week? Nevertheless they prepared for this…. they do it every year, they know what to expect…. and it's still overloaded?
Surely this is some twisted marketing at it's finest. Don't ask me the particulars as I have NFI what part of "screw with your customers after building up a big event for days" is good for business, but it's there somewhere alright.

I had items in my cart then went into the sign in page and put my details in then pressed next. Now the sign in times out… I'm guessing that means I will have to wait until the sign in page loads again then cross my fingers it doesn't time out again!

Same, every time I sign in and it crashes/overloads I have to sign in again. This will be my 4th time checking out and signing in (scratch that just got the error while typing that!).
They will increase the bandwidth soon and everything should start flowing.
Some really average to below average prices on games. The bundles and a few select games are worthy of the sale title but not much else here.
Im in it for the collectibles.. they are quite cheap :)

@4892: Nice find! I just went for the major console deals since I don't have an XB1 or PS4 yet (the XB1 Elite and PS4 + 8 games). For $1147 (from memory) + post all up. Did you notice any cheap Vita games, or other good deals browsing?

I think you should be able to snag one of the console deals as they won't sell until 8am.
You should use this time if you are still up to compare with other places. Most of these deals are pretty mediocre and console bundles may be a bit better elsewhere, less games but cheaper overall price and buy the games you actually want.

feel sorry for EB's IT team right now, if they are half competent they would've already screamed at management and asked for upgrades, but as per usual, it would had been ignored, and they would've been told to "deal with it/just make it work"
Oh so it is an official relaunch at "8:00am" (not just "should be up and running by") this is going to be interesting. I'll stay awake for another hour and check (see if they put it back up for any reason) then wake up at 7 and keep checking every ten minutes until 7:50 when it will be time for serious refreshing.
