Masters Extra 10% off Again Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th This Week

526

Masters are offering the extra 10% off again on Monday and Tuesday

17-18 of October

Whether you're still waiting for prices to go down this 10% could just help if there's something you need now.

If you haven't caught on yet, Masters seem to be dropping their price every Thursday of the week, it may not be all products, but
usually you will see a further permanent discount of 5% to 10% on top of what they have already done.

So if this 10% is still not enough, keep an eye on the weekly markdowns.

NOTE: The advertisement claims a 10% extra discount on the Total Purchase Price, but it does not do that, it discounts off the
discounted purchase price, so you must first work out the percentage it already has been discounted to, then you take 10% off that calculation,
this is equating to only 6% to 7% extra of the total purchase price, not 10% Falsely advertised maybe, see if you manage to get a full 10% off the
Total purchase price as correctly advertised.

This is what I've seen so far discount wise (then add 10% extra off)

more like 200% increase in prices

Masters - Old Price Tag Showing $79 behind New $149 Tag

Disgruntled shopper Stefan complained that the set of kitchen taps he bought was advertised as “40 per cent off the lowest ticketed price”, with a $149 price tag falling away to reveal what appeared to be an original price of $79. After raising the issue, he said, staff refused to honour the lower price.
“This is how Masters are conducting their sale, hiking up the price and then taking 40 per cent off … They’re still ripping people off,” he wrote on Masters’ Facebook page.
“$149 price at the front and $79 price at the back. Despite their sale tickets saying 40 per cent off lowest ticketed price, they refused service. I wonder how Consumer Affairs Victoria and ACCC Consumer Rights would feel about this.”
Another Facebook user pointed out that the old price appeared to be from 2013, while Masters’ social media representative promised to “investigate”.

        Since you shouted this out

more like 200% increase in prices

        100% increase means doubled.
        200% increase means increased 3 times .

        $79 -> $149 is 100% (or actually 88.61%)

Just shut the stores you ####ers, and stop annoying us with your crappy deals

    • +3

It's Rugs-a-million "closing down" sales all over again

  • +11

Masters should be banned on ozbargain

    • +12

I reckon we should give them 9 more weeks and then ban them for ever. I've spoken to Scotty and the mods and they agree.

    • +4

They are not the ones conducting the sale.

Look at history, been some good deals from Masters in the past..

      • +5

i used to love masters and i still would like them to stay in Bunnings competition but this sale is just complete disaster

      • I tend to agree as I purchased a few decent cordless garden and power tools when they had promotional sales on in the past for very reasonable prices thanks to OZBargain and Top Bargains posts saving a lot of money.

Having said though, there is no question that they have jacked up prices in items during these sales.
And these extra discounts are applied in an alchemist fashion. For example, is the additional 10% discount applied on the original listed price or after the initial discount is taken into consideration.

Last week I purchased two items and in both cases the extra 10% discount was applied after the initial discount was taken into consideration making the actual additional discount more like 2% or 3%.

  • +6

I'm actually going to be sad when Masters closes. Currently playing the game where you hold out as long as you can to get the biggest discount before the item you want sells out. The items I want are bigger ticket items and already a bargain, but they also move slowly so carry less stock. I'm either going to be REALLY happy or really ticked off. Good times.

    • +14

A better game is to hide the shit you want until the price drops 😹

      • HAHAHA Great idea. No way I could hide what I want.

        • Hmmm where's the best place to hide a washing machine?

        • Ride on mower?

    • I purchased my first item today. Went in on the way home and they'd sold 2 of the 3 cement mixers i've been eyeing off. DAMN! I've been to 4 other stores recently and all of them were sold out weeks ago. Was hoping to make it to 40% + 10% off but still satisfied with 25% + 10%. Was really surprised how much stock was sold over the past weekend.

I asked the staff if they had been transferring stock to other stores due to the empty shelves. They said they were just really busy on the weekend to the point where you couldn't get a park.

  • +8

I'll ignore all Masters deals until the mid of Nov 2016.

    • I'd a agree with you here we are going to start seeing some real discounts happen around then, as it's gets nearer to the closing date which I think was the 11th of December. There are just some things are really going out of stock that if wanted/needed it you would need to get it now. I reckon by the end they'll be giving away stuff, there is just so much stock, the discounts should have been much more than what they are today as they just wont get rid of it.

  • +5

Went to Masters today to see if they had any good deals on air conditioners. Absolute waste of time. Pretty much every item in the store could be had cheaper elsewhere even after the discount.

    • I've been watching air con prices and they have been good.. you would be lucky to find stock left anyways

      • +6

You're right, no stock except for portable air conditioners. 20% off the prices that were still on the wall still weren't that great. I ended up doing a pricebeat at Bunnings for far cheaper.

        • When the temp heats up, the portable air cons will be very well priced.

      • Which air conditioners were you watching? How good were the prices?

        • I was after Samsung split system air con, just the smaller 2.5 for another bedroom, bought 3 from masters 3 years ago when the local store opened(had a 3 item for 20% discount coupon on opening day). Last Sunday when they had an extra 10% discount prices were around $150 cheaper than anywhere, now they would be nearly 200 bucks, but sold out in all eastern Melb suburbs and had to buy a Fujitsu from Good Guys, not complaining, I waited and missed out at masters. Stores had stock but I took a chance.

    • +5

      It's a joke
I went to buy paint, cost was double what i paid a year or so ago. Then 30% off. Still
More expensive. They are sucking anyone who has no idea of prices prior in big time

  • Goddamn most of the hammers were sold!

  • There was a run on paint brushes as well, not much of them left

    • There was a run on paint brushes as well, not much of them left

Which is stupid as many of the good brushes were 40% off a few times during sales and I regret not stocking up more back then.

  • +2

The brushless EGO 56v trimmer i have my eye on is finally getting to the right price. At $272 it matches the US RRP of $199.

    • $272, is that after extra 10% discount?

    • Where else can you purchase batteries for the EGO range?

      • Lawn mower, blower

      • +1

Trade tools. You also could probably import a battery.

        • Watched the ad for this ego mower
They break the battery down in a flashy grafic
Looks like about 24-30 AA batteries running the 56v cartridge battery
This could be the solution to ozbargainers with too many enenloops
Seriously, if you can dismantle the battery to swap out
Maybe someone who's bought one can see if it's possible?

        • +1

@Beach Bum: they are not AA's. They are 18650 Lithium Ions like pretty much every other cordless tool. I don't know about Ego batteries but many other tools (AEG, Makita) have protection circuits in them that stop you replacing the cells too. Decent quality 18650's are not cheap either.

      • +2

Home hardware and mitre 10 will do Ego stuff now I heard

      • +2

Where else can you purchase batteries for the EGO range?

I asked Masters about this, they said they are available at Mitre 10, and Home Timber and Hardware, and will also be available at BigW after Masters closes.

      • According to the T&Cs of a current cashback promo: Trade Tools, Total Tools, Mitre 10, Home Timber & Hardware and independent stores across Australia.

Note: Purchases from Masters aren't eligible for the promo.

  • do I buy now or later hmmmmmm

    • Depends. I tried to hold out for a ride on lawnmower and missed out. On my way to the 4th Store today to see if there are any left!

  • +4

Anyone else find it pathetically hard trying to find the price of an item because it's been chucked all over the place - even when you find the pile where it lives, the price tags have been removed from the shelves

    • +15

I tried to get a price check on a heater which had no price tag on it. The item didn't scan on their system and the staff were saying the "worst thing management did was to take the prices off the website" lol.

Masters are now officially a joke! Woolies basically putting it on a collision course before closure. Waiting for the real liquidation sale. Can't be too far away - apparently there is still stock on ships that hasn't arrived yet lol. They are going to really start the proper liquidation sale soon.

      • True, the staff seemed reliant on the website. Seems things were too hard to find on their system. The stock counts are unreliable too.

    • +5

I've taken to looking up prices on price hipster to see the original price.

No deals or bargains to be had, the mong's have price-hiked everything past RRP and then put "sales" and "discounts" based on Dick Smith levels of deceptive pricing.

  • What's their opening hours? Mon: 7:00 am - 8:00 pm for ACT for example?

    • Majura Park stoe has been gutted to stock other stores…Good luck

  • +6

Bunnings sausage sizzle alone beats Masters .

    • +1

Something about that caked on oil of the past 1000 fundraisers.
I don't think you can beat a sausage sizzle from Bunnings.

  • even all the solrgard are gone couple of weeks ago. I remember they had buy one get one free all the time beofre. Ppl are idiots.

    Getting my ride on tomorrow!

  • How are consumer affairs and the like allowing this.

    • How are consumer affairs and the like allowing this

      They don't care.

      • Its their duty to care?

        • +1

Not sure what the question mark means.

My comment is a statement. If they care, why haven't they acted? And what would they "act against"?

        • @llama: im merely saying they should be caring as thats what they are being funded for. In terms of who they would act against. not sure. either woolworths or the new owner of the inventory.

        • @Drifta:

im merely saying they should be caring as thats what they are being funded for

          Caring about what?

Retailers in Australia can price pretty much how they like.

We don't live in a Communist country, so the Government doesn't control the prices of goods and services. As a general rule, they let the market decide.

So, if you don't want an extra 10% off the prices (this deal), or if you think that the prices are too high… then don't purchase.

  • +4

I feel I was fooled by Master's tactic, not sure if others have similar experience…

I bought a couple of items over the last two weeks while they were on 20% and 30% off, the reason I bought them was that there were only one or two items left on the shelves. One of the items I bought, I noted one of the Masters staff took the last one from the shelves for himself(I thought)…I felt at the time I made a right decision for that impulsive purchase, there would be none left for the next wave of discounts in my local Masters.

How wrong am I…I went to Masters today and noted there were plenty of them on the shelves and they could last until December.

waste petrol no more!! I stop buying from Masters for now unless there is something expensive I really need to use it straight away, I'll check that out then. Otherwise, Masters I'll see you again in late November and good luck to your closing down sale!

  • +8

They had better deals before they announced liquidation.

    • +3

And their car parks were empty . I'm calling it Auction mentality .
If only their marketing department had been on the ball earlier on .

      • +3

Maybe that was the trick to use. Have a 'Closing down! Everything must go!' sale constantly for five years like a cheap rug shop.

        • do they have any fukkurri rugs on sale?

  • +4

Really dissappointed in people not doing any form of research into what they are buying and taking masters prices as a deal… in saying that I have stocked up on screws and nails at 50% off plus the additional 10%. Hanging till Nov for a char broil tru infrared bbq.. if there is any left

    • +2

Really dissappointed in people not doing any form of researc

No need to. They snooze, they loose.

      • +5

        LOSE! LOSE!

        ..
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .

        FFS! …. Sorry, not sorry.

    • +3

Agree, they do no research, then bitch like hell when they dont get a bargain. Plus they want deals on the more popular and expensive items like air conditioners etc. When these are sold as some indicate, then there are no more in stock, so they bitch that Masters don't have stock.

Liquidation is just that, you get rid of all stock. Once gone it's gone. They may still have stock in warehouses/on the water etc, but that's it.

Panasonic Miele Samsung etc, aren't going to supply them more except at normal wholesale prices, the aim of liquidation isnt to keep selling new stock, its to get rid of old stock.

If it doesnt sell, they will keep discounting, but like all bargains its going to be finite stock levels. Wait until it gets into real bargain territory and probably, if its a desireable product, it will be sold before you get there.

      • +2

That's right, yet these people abuse the negative vote system and complain because a $3 item is too dear.

Buy a hot water service now, absolute bargains, in fact, the Rinnai Instant heat units could be bought from masters, flipped on eBay and min $200 be made.

If you know the pricing, there are bargains…

      • No, I've heard they still have new stocks coming from OS as they are locked into contracts with suppliers.

        • Yes I covered that with this comment

They may still have stock in warehouses/on the water etc

Etc meaning stuff they have bought or made commitments to buy

  • +2

Just remember it will be 10% off the already discounted price. So if a $100 item is currently 50% off ($50) an extra 10% off the total purchase is on the $50 ($5) not 10% of $100. Just so there are no nasty surprises at the checkout.

(thanks thebargainhunter for the explanation in the last deal).

  • Anyone know what category a respirator mask might fall into?

    • Safety or hardware,
just don't buy the earmuffs they sell,
      they're hopeless
Level 6 is only good protection against cats meow or chair scraping,
maybe good for protection when tuning up your corolla

      • just don't buy the earmuffs they sell,

The green Prochoice earmuffs they sell are actually very good. Use them daily when angle grinding.

Don't get the orange ones. They are useless

    • It's in Safety. 40% off that category. Loads of gloves and fluoro left, very little masks left to choose from.

  • Death to masters. Oh wait. They're already closing down..

  • +3

Found a ride on mower, way bigger than what I need, and probably won't navigate around my yard. https://imgur.com/gallery/qj4Fc

    • You didn't buy with gift cards!!!!!

      • Arrgh such a fail on my part. I was in a rush and had to buy quick- too late now.

      • Just learned that masters no longer accept gift cards

        • I used a Wish e gift card at Masters this afternoon?

  • Just a tip for my fellow ozbargainers, check the ticket price vs the price at the check out. I bought a ego hedge trimmer that had a ticket price on the shelves as $349 but the checkout showed $369 - a staff member then went to the aisle and replaced the tag to the higher price (I did get the discount applied to the lower ticket price). I felt bad for the people who bought the trimmer after me at the jacked up price.

  • So has anybody purchased anything today?

Just confirming that the 10% discount is in effect?
