  • is it worth it?

    • Depends what you're after. I inherited this from someone who ended up buying a mechanical keyboard instead. I personally wouldn't have purchased it but I can't fault it. It does what it's meant to :)

  • +2

Note that it doesn't come with a Bluetooth adpator. I bought an Orico one from Aliexpress for about $5 from memory. Nice low profile keyboard. Not he most ergonomic though.

    • Are you talking about the wifi adapter? The Bluetooth is built in on the keyboard and mouse. If your laptop or Mac has Bluetooth it's pretty straightforward to Setup. No dongles needed.

      • +1

No, I meant Bluetooth adaptor. Most of the keyboards and mice that I've seen in the market has a dongle bundled with it.

As you mentioned, if you're using a device that has Bluetooth built-in then there's no need for a dongle e.g. iPad, MS SurfaceBook etc. For other devices, such as a desktop, it might not have Bluetooth built-in so you'll need to buy a separate dongle. I ordered one of these from the Orico factory store on AliExpress: http://www.orico.cc/goods.php?id=6004.

Microsoft 'Let's try and copy Apple because we can't come up with new ideas' Keyboard and Mouse Combo

  • -4

Great, it's another 'me too'from Microsoft. Can't they poach some designers from Apple to design something that doesn't look terrible? Instead of just trying to copy them all the time and coming out with the 2$ shop version of everything Apple does

    • -2

Negged :D I'm typing on an Apple keyboard right now that looks identical to this one, except mine is white and silver. It's an amazing keyboard, and I ditched a $120 mechanical to come back to this one. I have no doubt the Microsoft version won't feel as nice, and that mouse looks like a $5 bargain bin job at Officeworks. People hate Apple so much they can't think rationally

      • +1

Maybe it's not about people hating Apple but people negging you for criticising a product you appear to have never used while talking up an alternative. If you'd used both and given an objective comparison people likely wouldn't have negged you. Creating a divide by saying Apple vs haters doesn't help either.

Personally, having used both, they're different products. The Apple keyboard is more solid and feels premium in a mass market sort of way. The Microsoft keyboard is more svelte and definitely has a different feel from other more typical keyboards in the market. Both are decent products that will suit different types of users. My current keyboard is a DAS which meets my needs and is superior to both of the other products for what I need.

  • I have several copies of the old Media Pro keyboard still in a box (in addition to the ones I use obviously). Prefer it to mechanical. This? No!

  • It might just be me but I need a gap between the keys and the number pad.

Do your research on the mouse first. I was considering getting the mouse a few months back and every reviewer complained about the cheap plastic 'click' noise you hear when you use the mouse.
Could be a deal breaker for some?

    • What a good comment.

Yes, that's my upvote you can see.

  • I have had two of the mouse scroll-wheels fail on me mechanically. Keyboard is great though and mouse fine otherwise. I would see what the stores return/repair policy is like, although I you can also return via Microsoft.

  • +1

NOTE: I bought this keyboard and the media keys don’t work. Returned.

One other things to note if you're looking to buy this keyboard. It's not supported by Microsoft's current keyboard/mouse software. Which means you can't customise the mouse buttons amongst other things.
