Telechoice rep in Sydney told me today that Optus has advised her it is now a discontinued item and they cannot supply any more stock to her…

  • Anyone Got the Data2sd Working on Zte v9….
I kind of can get app2sd from cyanogen but Can't seem to find any data2sd for it….

To help anyone that missed out, I have 2 available in Perth, my wife and daughter had no interest in a tab, so back in the box they went!. Both come with the limited edition ZTE case/wallet as well. Receipt will be supplied. Un-opened Sim Cards. Welcome to anybody for $90 each pickup.

SOLD! - Thanks to everyone that PM'd. Its good to be able to help the OzBargain'ers.

    • .

  • If you are having trouble finding stock for this, bigw in werribee plaza has 5 of them when i got one today!;)

  • I installed 2.2 then CM7 ROM using the guide from wp. Ran Quanrand benchmark (from the market) and got a score between 922 - 980 (with a bit overclock). It's sitting above Samsung Galaxy S score. Nice. Wonder what the score for stock rom?

The battery is pretty good. I'll be use mainly as a ebook reader. Not bad for a $99 gadget.

    • I'm running Optus stock rom and it reads 411.

By the way, are there any drawbacks to upgrade to CM7? (I heard there were some issues reinstalling the youtube and fm radio apps)

      • wow, that's quite low on the stock rom
YouTube still working fine. I don't use radio so can't comment on that.

        • I did another take on Quadrant straight after a reboot and it read 713.

Did you try installing another fm app? (I'm hoping its just issues with the app and not the functionality of the transmitter)

        • If you go into "Manage Applications", then "Running" - you will see that there are quite a number of applications running in the background. Close as many of those as you can and re-run Quadrant and the clock speed will be more than 900+ MHz.

Anyone want to sell their ZTE V9?
I am willing to pay $120 for brand new or even 1-2 weeks old tablet.
I am in Sydney and I can pay by cash and do the pickup.

    • there are more available

    • Probably you may consider T-Touch since some sold for 120, but some people still prefer My Tab.

  • anyone know how much it costs to unlock from optus?

    • +1

Who cares when you can do it for free within minutes!

I would assume they would do it for free if you get a $80-$100 recharge (probably using the same website that has been mentioned in this thread a dozen times)

    • I got mine unlocked from following website http://www.nextgenserver.com/calculator/

  • I got CM7 running, and paid $2 for the setcpu app which was insisted in the instructions i followed to overclock. Cannot get it above 600Mhz though, I read some people were getting a stable 710-750. Its supposed to let me go over, not sure why its not. The upgrade to gingerbread is worth it though, it just stutters occasionally. Extra speed would help. Any idea?

    • Did you install the optimised kernel - from the guide? I'm folllowed the guide to the exact steps. No other tweaking. I replace the installed launcher with Launcher Pro and used simple wallpaper.

Here are the screen shots of my Quadrant score

default (ondemand) setting - 940 score
      http://upload.ozbargain.com/2011/06/11/6059_zte-ondemand.jpg

      performance setting - 979
      http://upload.ozbargain.com/2011/06/11/6060_zte-performance.…

I'm using No-frill CPU (free from market) to adjust the setting.

I'm reset back to standard setting (ondemand). Don't want to drain batter too fast.

      • Yes, I installed the optimised kernal from the guide, did the whole thing allover again another 2 times just to make sure I did it right. I have now installed no-frill cpu control and I still cannot get more then 600.

Could you send me a link to the guide you used…

        • +1

I think the story is that the CPU will still run at 600 MHz, but AHZ will be overclocked. Consequently, if you just look at the CPU speed, it will still show 600 MHz max, but when you run Quadrant Standard (free download from Android Market), it will show the overall speed is higher. I was able to achieve 890 MHz while just running overclock "On-demand", and that was with a few applications running in the background as well.

Guide is from first post of this one
          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1713293
It was also mentioned somewhere in this deal.

As supercheap1 said, the overclock app doesn't really overclock your cpu. It's just keep your CPU at the min speed when idle or not in demand. Don't take benchmark scores too seriously. Happy with what you got and get on with life.

        • So the benefit of the optimised kernal…is cpu control??? Not overclocking…
Edit: DW :p I get it

Brisbane BigW stores had no stock, but they offered to put me on a list. And they did actually call back, and I got a My Tab! The guy said they got 3. There were 8 people behind me on the list. He said Optus actually had plenty of stock but BigW apparently did not think they needed them.

    • if optus had plenty of stock, why their website already sold out?

    • hI mate, which store did U get from? I wanna to order one.thx

So I'm late to the party.
No chance of getting one now?

  • Nvm.

  • How do I get the 3gb data sms and calls?, I activated and got zero dollar balance. I read another page here, that someone else got the same deal, and another user said to sms balance to 9999, to receive 2 sms showing credits of calls and data. I did that, just received 1 sms showing $0.

    • called optus, say it still pending takes 20min to 4 hours to activate, already been 2 hrs..maybe slow because of public holiday.

    • i got same got zero dollar balance…
have you get 3gb data sms and calls? if so, how?

      • Still not there for me as well. I think I will have to call em today. I knew this was going to happen, as if it takes 4 or more hours. I didnt even receive any activation confirmation email. But I know its activated, even when I called the call centre, just something wrong must have happend.

        • Finally works this morning, must have taken atleast 12 hours (checked late last night) from activation for it to be properly activated with credits.

    I upgraded to gingerbread.. awesome!
However.. it appears I am getting a "low memory" warning, even tho it appears only 150megs of the 2gigs is filled.
    1. How to install apps to the remaining 1.85 gigs? (not recommended?)
    2. How to install apps on an external SD card?

Just a clear web-link would be great =)

    Many thanks in advance!

My colleague ordered one from the DSE website on Friday, $99 including delivery. For those who have brought one, I would recommend that you install the Prey app, it allows the owner to track the tablet in case it gets stolen along with other valuables.

    http://preyproject.com/blog/2010/01/prey-arrives-on-mobiles-…

I have successfully installed it on my ZTE V9.

  • The Whirlpool instructions on upgrading beyond 2.2 says it needs to be unlocked first, is this necessary? I don't have a SIM from another provider so I can't unlock it…

    • +1

I asked the same question on Whirlpool - see http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1713293&p…. I got a response from "freeradical" saying he had not unlocked and was able to upgrade beyond 2.2 [ie he loaded CyanogenMod7].

      • Thanks kaddude.
Is it worth the upgrade? 2.2 works pretty well for me atm.

        • I haven't had time to upgrade yet. But folks on other forums are saying it is worth it.

  • Iit is seriously worth the upgrade to 2.2 and it's easy to do. There are step by step instructions.

  • I went into a Dick's today, price back up to $249 again. Wouldn't be paying that much!

    • +1

its $99 in the catalog starting 15th so if they have stock you should get one tomorrow at that price

      • +2

I already have two of them and don;t need anymore! I was walking past and noticed that their $99 price tag they had on last week had gone and it was priced at $249. My guess is that they are doing that so they can say Save $150. Very cheeky if that is what they are doing. (Just checked catalogue says Save $50 - this is technically against the Fair Trading Act as it is a misrepresented save statement)

  • Some DSE might be getting new stocks today. Just wondering do they need to register your full detail? Does that mean only 1 item per customer as Optus only allows 1 prepaid sim per ID? Anyone has successfully purchase more than 1 over the counter?

I know you can order multiple items through DSE online.

    • +1

      I got one from online

I also picked up another one today at my DSE

I had to bring a mate to get 2

      Very limited stock apparently.

      5 left Campbelltown Mall DSE
Ring first to get them to put one aside if they havent gone yet

      Good luck

      • HI mate, would U mind sell one to me? 0433425000 pls let me know, thx

    • I have a number of Optus pre-paid sims (as well as other telco's). You are able to have as many as you want. Mind you, you might end uyp with a bit of explaining to do to your misses if she doesn't know about all of them!

  • Anyone knows that if it's safe to sell on eBay the whole new package with the prepaid SIM? It's not activated by registered under my name when checkout. Any suggestions welcomed !

    • +1

How about offer to OzBargainers, I am sure a lot of member will interested if the price is reasonable. Could you tell me how much do you like to sell it ?

    • Define 'safe'. You could ask Dr Haneef or his lawyers. I suspect the answer is relative - i.e. our keystone cops at the AFP will probably only target you if you are Muslim!

    • I am happy to buy one. pls give me a call 0433425000

      • really? you would just put your mobile number on a public forum

  • -6

I have one that i can offer, but i am thinking of putting onto ebay too. I've seen them all sell for 150$ + shipping.

  • help me find one please! been looking all over Sydney!

  • cool, just picked up another one.

    • Well, now you got yours, you can tell the rest of us where!

    • HI mate, where do u get from? 0433425000 pls let me know, thx

  • got the last one at Aus Post Prahran last night. It was on hold for someone to pick it up on Monday but the kind lady said if you get down here by closing time (in 20 mins) she would let me buy it. She said you snooze you lose LOL. Called up my best mate who lives in Prahran to stroll down to the PO to pick it up. I am currently upgrading firmware to CM7.

First time android user so can anyone tell me what apps do I need?

    • flext9, advanced task killer, skype, realplayer, robo defense, skyfire are useful….to name a few (pretty sure these are all free)

  • nothing in adelaide? all sold out?

    • I got one today from Austpost (Rundle mall) and my other 2 friends also got one each. call Austpost early morning @ 137678 and ask them for product code 24677. They have put it in new catalogue valid from today so they must be expecting some more in coming days for sure…

      • Thanks invnamit, got one from Preston Aust post. I rang that number and they were very helpful, and there still seemed to be some stock around.

  • Check the comments towards the bottom on this link
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/46614?page=4

It looks like you can still order these online from Optus.
I;ve ordered one and i have not got confirmation about the order yet. I ordered it only 18 hours ago though…

    Good luck.

  • Still cant find one been everywhere big w kmart optus harvey norman like 5 aus post in sydney and melbourne and telechoice went to optus and they told me about this

    www.optus.com.au/mytabform

can register for when they are going to get stock hope it helps someone.

Please can anyone help me find one in sydney?

  • I got the last one from Preston Aus Post Shop (Northland Shopping Centre) today - I rang Auspost 131318 this morning, and got the last one there put on hold

  • after ringing and dropping in to heaps of stores i had just about given up. as i was driving home one day i just dropped in to a big w that i'd already phoned….low and behold 2 under the counter…..thanks mate….

    • +1

      2 under the counter?

as in he slid you 2 in a shifty manner, you handed him an unmarked envelope, and made for the nearest exit quickfast?

  • I picked up the last one from Good Guys (Hightpoint VIC). I just unboxed it and found some dust trapped under the screen protector. Is it normal? I feel like my unit is a refurbished one.

    • I don't think so, as I found 2 visible dusts on mine as well, but other things like the accessories, the back cover and the bits and pieces therein are seemed clean and good.

Screen is new and shiny when I removed the original protector and replaced with a new, proper one.

  • I have previously used (and loved) screen and body protectors from www.bestskinsever.com. However I have not been able to find the American/overseas name of this model to obtain screen protectors for it.

    Any help from anyone?

  • I bought this one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280690…
It includes the screen protector which covers the whole front face, not just the screen. For $7.59, I'm quite satisfied. The case provides an adequate protection and does not make the tablet bulky.

  • I've got 2 units I'm willing to let go of, if anyone's interested. 1 just opened 2 days ago, network unlocked, and upgraded to CM7. 1 still sealed in the box.

    • Hi jondave I'd be interested in one where are you in Melbourne and how much?

      • looking to sell it for around how much it goes in eBay, just send me a message with a fair offer

  • Just bought the last one from Indooroopilly HN. It was just sitting in the glass cabinet together with the ASUS Transformer, Acer Iconia and the Telstra tab. The Optus My Tab box has a sticker that says $150, but the guy said i only need to pay $99. I paid extra $20 for the 2 yrs additional warranty. All up $119.

  • Does anyone know if you can still get these anywhere? I need 1 more! :-)

    • i'm in your boat — i'm on the coffs coast and went to 4 big w's and 3 post offices — no luck :( on ebay they're going for $160-180! that's nearly double the store price :\

finally found a decent one on ebay - 2weeks old $100+10 ship :D

Got an SMS from Optus said it was available now to purchase and need to order before 15 July 2011. Hope this can help.

Forgot to mention to order it from http://www.optus.com.au/mytaborders

      • +1

Yep, I got the SMS and ordered — $99, no shipping cost apparently.

The latest CM7 kernal (release 3 July 2011) allows you to overclock the Optus MyTab CPU up to 860 MHz so that it is even faster than the Nexus One 2.2+ (with 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250) - see my Quadrant rating of 1439 when I ran my Optus MyTab at 768 MHz:

    http://upload.ozbargain.com/2011/07/09/6269_img_1030.jpg

It also allows you to overclock the AHB Bus by 50% and increases the free RAM. If you have already installed an earlier version of CM7, upgrade instructions may be found at:

    http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-light-v9-lightv9-modac…

    Full instructions are at:

    http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/zte_tablet_v9_optus

    • Any issues with running at 860MHz full time?
