15.6" i7 2630QM 2GHz 4GB DDR3 1GB ATI $999 -> $599.40 (or Less with OW Price Match)

830

Only a week ago OzBargain had this same unit highlighted for $787:
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/50666

This laptop model is retailed at $787 at Dicksmiths, Officeworks, JB, and online reviews report this i7 model offering the best bang for your dollar based on its specs.

Now for $569.43 you can score this same unit.

Get a quote from Harvey Norman with their 40% off - $999 -> $599.40
Take the quote to Officeworks and get a further 5% competitor price match - $599.40 -> $569.43

I did this today without any issue, just obviously dont tell HN your going to officeworks ;P
Heres proof of receipt (note I threw in a laptop bag on top):
Photo of Receipt

This is a crazy price for a i7 unit with a dedicated GPU and 4GB DDR3 1333 Ram. This unit has a 320Gb 5400RPM hard disk (slow, small), but most of the middle range HP products have a 5400RPM, so its best to spend $100 on a DIY SSD upgrade anyway!

No, your source of 'infinite' unhappiness will stem from future breakdowns and machine malfunctions which is inevitable.

  • what are peoples comments on the graphic card? is it decent enough. i know it wont match the 4890 i have on my desktop buy i hardly game these days ne way

How do the normal speakers compare to the Beats Audio Quad Speakers?

To prevent overheating, I read that you can set the processor speed (or something) to 90% and select the option of passive cooling.

    • Beats is a brand of Monster Cables, the company that prides it self on selling over priced HDMI cables. Having said that, actual Beats headphones are fairly decent, but I think in this case its just marketing.

  • Been thinking about getting the 6024tx which is not listed on the website but is 740 after HN discount and OW pricebeat. It has a 6770M and 750gig HDD. Is it worth the extra $170?

    • Reckon so. Its hard to get the 4023TX at HN for 599 though. They hv already marked the price up.

    • I think so too. Bigger hard drive, better keyboard, better touch pad, bluetooth, switchable graphics (and better graphics card), USB3 (instead of eSATA).

The keyboard & touchpad on the posted deal model are not to my likings. Also, 320GB hard drive is a bit too small (and if you are going to replace it, it will cost around $70-$100). The fast video decoding of SandyBridge may need the IntelHD (which switchable graphics comes in).

  • +1

Good price, but similar to many here I have had horrible recent experiences with HP laptops (DV series and a netbook) and would never buy again. Definitely worth spending a bit more on another brand that has a longer warranty.

  • +1

    Just bought one :p
    Bargain for the price!

  • +1

Just picked a 6134tx from HN Chatswood NSW for $598.80, pretty good - especially with the AMEX $50 cash back to make it $548.80

The sales rep tried to sale me surge protectors and extra 3 years warranty for $100… no thanks :)

Just gone through the first boot, speakers are actually quite good, better than my Vaio SR56 (1.5 years old) and very old Asus

    • Sooo… why did you pay basically the same for an i5 model?

      • Better graphic card, HDD…

And you may not find a 4023TX for 599.

      • Better graphics card (I'd rather have a better gpu than cpu, won't need all the processing power anyway), bigger hard drive, 2x USB 3.0 ports (quite important for me, always copying HD movies in/out), better speakers/audio drivers, better keyboard and touchpad design

Plus I like the dark brown brushed metal look a lot more than the light silverish stripy look :)

One negative: why does the power pack have to be as fat as s**t?! These are definitely the biggest ones I've ever owned, and I've owned ASUS -> HP EliteBook -> Dell Inspiron -> Vaio S, Thinkpad T

Price is coming down probably because of the following reasons:
    1. Weak market world-wide; or
    2. New models coming out soon (present cycle is about to end on September).

Anyway, HP is about to exit the computer market. Compared to Apple which makes about US$750/unit profit, HP only earns about US$35/unit.

    • Price is coming down because HP said they are not making pc's, laptops tablets and mobile phones ne more

      • +1

They are exiting the PC market, but they are not just going to close up shop. They are going to sell off the PC business units, like how IBM sold their PC units to Lenovo.

The price drop is not due to the announcement last week. Frankly, the 40% off all HP is more of a Gerry Harvey gimmick where they jack up the prices, then take 40% off for the unsuspecting. They did the same thing for Toshiba a couple month back as well. Actually, they have been having these "sales" quite regularly since the 1000 GST threshold issue got blown up.

I bought one of these last week for just under $750 from OW courtesy of their price match policy. After seeing this I decided to pick up 2 more for the business, I was going to wait until closer to Christmas but I thought I couldn't say no at this price. With receipt in hand I headed to OW at Virginia (where OP got price matched) and I got every excuse under the sun why it couldn't be done. The useless salesperson claimed to have rung 3 HN's and the best he was quoted was $898 after the 40% off. The first HN I called (Carindale) confirmed they were $598 with discount but Officejerks didn't want to hear about it (even after being shown OP's receipt).

Anyway long story short, I returned the one I bought last week under the 14 day satisfaction guarantee, headed to HN and picked up 3 for $618 each including 3 year extended warranty, no haggling required. So Officeworks can go and suck a fat one as far as I'm concerned, normally I'm on the anti HN bandwagon but I couldn't be happier this time round.

    • +1

He was telling the true. 4 out of 4 I called quoted it 1499 less 40% as well.

      • HN Carindale quoted $598, OW were told of this but flat out refused to call to confirm.

        • +1

I also got it from OW last week, how does this 14-day thing work?

EDIT: I searched thoroughly their site and they don't mention it.

        • +1

I'm pretty sure I saw 14 days mentioned instore but I can't find any mention of it either. In any case their return policy is if you aren't completely satisfied to return the item with all original packaging etc for a full refund. I bought mine 10 days ago and they didn't say boo.

OfficeWorks I went to got the price around $835 from calling HVN. But, the person thought that was BEFORE 40% off. I did the honest thing and tried to explain the whole thing to him… and he got a bit confused. Anyway… did get 5% off the right price from OfficeWorks at the end. From him, he just needed to make sure HVN store still has it in stock (in my case - 1 left).

This is an awesome deal… but I tried the touch pad and wasn't too happy about it. It has eSATA (which I really like), but no USB 3.0. The keyboard does not have numpad support (minor). No switchable graphics… so at the end… I picked a slightly better model for another $120 more… hope I don't regret it later.

OfficeWorks people are generally helpful when it comes to price beat. However, the other side must also confirm the price properly and indicate there is stock. I went to HVN, took the photo of the price tag, yet when OW called, they still quote a different price.

this appears to be a HP fire sale, everything must go, but reading the comments here and elsewhere i get the feeling HP in general made crappy hardware and it was only a matter of time before they would sell off the pc division, unlike IBM who made great laptops

  • I just picked up the 6134TX from Harvey Norman Cannington. All the prices in store were inflated prices for '8gb' models. Just had to ask for the 4gb 'version' to get the proper price. I actually ended up paying $600 rather than $598 but I wasn't really fussed.

Rick hart clearance stores in WA also seem to have the 40% off as well since they've been taken over by harvey norman. They hadn't done the dodgy 8gb thing either but didn't have the 6134 in the store I checked (Vic park).

  • About to pick up the DV6-6134TX from Harvey Norman for $578.84, I'll upload a receipt when I get back :)

  • why can't they have this next month, I'm going overseas.

Picked up one dv6 4023tx i7 at $504, at HN waurn pond. The price is different from their website, something like $849 so it is cheaper after 40% off. Staff were helpful but kept on asking me to buy other stuff.

The QC of my dv6 4023tx is not very impressive. When I first opened the box, I saw a small gap on the backcover of harddisk and ram.

Other HP netbooks at $222. Some Toshiba notebooks also on sale but i have no idea why.

      • +1

Hey I had the same issue. The back cover was not fitted properly and the locking screws had paint chips indicating post-manufacture removal and refitting. I took photos of these screws in case there was a problem and I needed to make a return to demonstrate that I did not tamper with it. I suspect that these covers have been opened by HP after packing to repair/replace/upgrade the laptops. Maybe sandybridge repair or something else?
-I had to remove 3 screws and slot the cover back in a certain way for the clips to lock in. It took a few goes to get it right.

        Anyone else have this issue?

        • Futher, I checked all the seals on the box and they were un-damaged. Interestingly there was HP embossed tape over the bottom of the box, which is how it might have been removed and replaced by HP. Maybe ones that have not been modified don't have this tape over the bottom of the box.

        • +1

i did exactly the same thing as you did. Other things fine. Installing antivirus and getting rid of HP stuff, norton and useless things.

Sound quality of the speakers really awesome.

  • Just picked up a 6135tx for $680. For me it was worth the extra $$ for the 6770m graphics card and larger harddrive. Considering I would've been happy to pay 850 for it this is a bargain!

    • Where from? I can't find the 6135tx in Harvey Norman. I'd get one at this price. It has USB 3.0, better GPU, bigger hdd and a better chassis without those stupid media keys down the left hand side.

  • They state SATA HDD, is it worth it to upgrade to an SSD if it's not SATA II or III?

  • Just took all the paperwork to OW (including the receipt) and they wouldn't honour it.

After a 25minute wait, they came back with "it's not an original receipt, it's just a copy" and when I questioned that they said "Oh it's from another state anyway"

But yeah, went to HN and got it for $600, no questions asked. They had it at a list price of $1500 and $900 after 40% off, but I didn't even question it when the sales guy came up and told me it was actually $600.

Also upgraded the warranty to 3yrs @ HN for $70 for all those interested, as HP aren't the most reliable of laptops.

    • they wanted to charge me $200 for 3yrs warranty but i did not take it. the staff there today were not that friendly and their prices are quite confusing for customers and staff there.

and also they convinced to buy a $700 hp i5 because it is cooler than my dv6 4023. i would rather lower the power of CPU to %80 to make it cooler. i7 6mb cache, i5 3m cache…. can't compare. to them, only commissions make the difference.

  • WOW the touchpad is selling for $99 at the american HP website !!!! at that price it's a steal !

  • Bought one from Harvey Norman Gold Coast today for $538!

That model isn't listed on the HN website.
Was it listed as $1200 in store?

It also has a better GPU than the one in the OP. Well worth the extra $120 for 4GB extra ram, better GPU and 2x the hdd space and USB 3.0

Could you post your receipt? I'm pretty interested in this model.

      • Seconded. I'll try to return mine to office works and get this.

  • +1

Cheers OP - got OW to pricematch what I had already purchased from them last week when matching against JB.

    Bargain for $570.

    • wait, do you mean that they refunded you money? I bought mine 9 days ago from OW.

      • I'd like to hear more about this too, as last Sunday I paid $635 for the 6023TX, from OW.

        So how does this work?

I take my receipt to OW and then they issue a new receipt for the new matched price and give me the cash back?

    • Hi ethonal I did exactly the same thing at OW, price matched against JB for $635, how did you manage to pricematch what you already purchased and get it for $570?

  • this looks great. do they include office with it???

  • +1

Bought one today from officeworks for $570. It is really a bargain for that price. Just told officeworks guy that its $600 in HN after 40% discount. He called HN to check and give me further 55 discount…..yuppy

just noticed that when the fan is maxed there isnt a lot of air coming out of the vent.

    • +1

      That's HP for ya. ;)

Don't worry though mine does the same, I believe the side vents are really just gimmicks. Most of the air flows through the bottom of the chassis top left corner.

      • Time to break out the dremel and make your own ventilation holes.

  • +4

picked up one of these for the OP's price ($570). A few notes:

-Pretty sure Auburn HN doesn't want to sell at this price. I called to check for availability and was told stock was available… but when i asked the price, was told $899 after discount. When I pointed out it was $999 retail on their website, all of a sudden he didn't have any stock :)

-campbelltown has stock (about 30 units as of this morning). this was the branch I had officeworks call to check

-Guildford officeworks checked the price and price matched with no hassle at all. Good place to go for this deal if they still have stock

    About the unit

-terrible touch pad, the clicker is very stiff and hard to press. That's not a huge problem as I'll be using a mouse, but only 3 usb ports means 1 will be permanently gone. Also, can't get around this with a blutooth mouse because no blutooth

-chicklet keyboard is quite terrible. the buttons dont depress evenly, making typing quite hard. Am using it to type this comment and its not a fun experience. Maybe it will improve as I get used to it, but I don't think I should have to.

-after uninstalling the bloatwware, quite happy about the speed… very zippy. installed portal 2, just cause 2 and starcraft 2. All played very well

    • machine gets uncomfortably warm, especially under left palm… even in this cold weather. this could be the biggest issue, because no one wants a warm palm. Again, even typing this comment has made me uncomfortable from the heat

-no extra media buttons. A separate volume button would be nice, but in fairness, they do have a function + f9 f10 combo. a separate button would be nive though

-in closing, still a great buy for the money, just know there are problems. if you're the type that likes to spend a little extra getting a great product, this isn't it. On the other hand with a separate mouse and perhaps a laptop cooer, this is a good buy

    • That's a very acurate review. The touch pad is horrible. It detered me when I tried it in OW yesterday, didn't bother to ask for price matching.
I feel this laptop is the worst quality ever that HP made. Personally I'd prefer to get a better quality one such as Dell Vostro with less than $200 bucks extra, but with higher specs. The bottom line is that you maybe saving $100+(after tax deduction) but you'll have to put up with the unhappiness about this laptop for years, if it does last years.

      • Switched to mouse. I'm overall very happy!

  • +3

Why ppl don't give up on HP ?
oh I get it, cuz it keeps you worm :P

      Warm* :P

  • thanks!!! I got 2 from OW in Victoria Park (WA) for $568.10 each and they said still have 10+ in stock, I did not get the extra 2yrs cover for $149 though, too expensive … The only thing that is missing from this laptop is bluetooth :( otherwise great for +$500 for an i7 ;)

    • +1

Remember guys the 6134TX has bluetooth and comes with a 6770M but at the cost of an i5 instead of an i7, I got mine for $578 (receipt further up the page).

  • I don't need a laptop but for this price and my condition of OBCB (OzBargain Compulsive Buyer) I will just have to pay OW a visit.

  • Just a heads up, the goods guys are selling the 6134TX for $960 online price. I'm going to check it out today and see if they'll honour the 120% difference. If my maths is correct 960 - (960-598.8)*120% = $527.

    EDIT: http://tinyurl.com/452ghd4

  • My local HN didn't seem to be jacking up the prices for the special. They had the laptop in the OP marked at around $540. They also had the 6023 for about the same. I think that is a better deal, has the new chassis, usb 3.0 better GPU double the hdd space but it's only an i5. I was tempted at $538, but I don't really know what I'd do with it :)

They also had the 6136 for $779 which is also a great deal. The 6135 at $720 would be better because the only thing different is 1GB less on the GPU but they didn't have any 6135s.

As tempting as all these deals are I think I'll pass as I don't really need a laptop.

  • Wow just wow. HN Morayfield never deal with them, biggest douches Manager was like thats no way can do it. So was like sure ok after he tried to give me a sob story about they were the REAL prices, other sales guy had no clue what he was doing. After the 4023 was $1499!!! And they wouldn't sell it seperate only had it with all this bundled shit!

Went to OW Morayfield and they matched to $569 so not to bad. But did take a long time say over an hour Sales man justin was awesome to deal with. Manager would not do the $506 which was up here on the net. Ended up getting 4 all up. Not bad.

    • please report it to Fair trading. If all ozbargainers do that we are sure to put Gerry harvey in place. I a little tire or mark up and then offer discounts. I for one will be making a complaint

      • On top of reporting to Fair Trading I would LOVE to do a nice letter about the quality of the staff at HN Morayfield. Their stupidity and ways to read of the sheets just sends me over boiling point, I have never bought anything from their computer section ever just do to the fact of attempting to deal with the staff.

  • Does this come with iLife?

  • I just thought I'd mention that my HP laptop has been a pretty big headache so far, just found out it has a 'switchable' gpu and it's causing some things to run slow when the computer doesn't detect they're graphics intensive, on top of that drivers have been hard to get and the computer is pretty hot.

Still worth it but I'm beginning to see the cracks..

  • I just bought one from Office work with the price of $570, although the process is not very happy at all. After visiting HN, i went to Office Work and ask for Price matching.
Although one of the staff did online and check harvey norman website for verification, they take about another 40minutes to let me wait there until there is a respond.

One man comes to me and tell me they are NOT matching discount price and give 5% more discount. They say they only match original retail price and give 5% discount. I was so angry and he said if i prefer i can go to HN to buy it.(HN nearby is out of stock)

I walked away then i start to think about their price matching policy at the website, they didnt say they only match original retail price. So i go back and ask them to let me look through the T&C of price guarantee. There is no match original retail price but ADVERTISED price. I think they didn't want to sell as the price is really a massive reduction.

The story ended with I bringing HP laptop and walk home happily.

  • Hi Guys,

i been to HN Northryde they put around 4 or 5 of DV6-3204TX ( http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256974607272/hp-pavi…) put all HP laptop must go with 40% off from 1499 to 1049 included with extended warranty, surge protector and something else as a bundle.

this 3204TX got I5 processor and not I7 like the one you guys talk about.

Why this 3204TX is expensier than the one mention in this thread?

  • Any chance of getting a laptop at these prices still? Maybe take a copy of one of the reciepts to officeworks?

    • You could give it a try and if you do upload your receipt :)

  • is it still possible to get this deal from officeworks?

    • nope. missed out dude. officeworks retails this for 787 or probably at best 20-30 bucks less. they aint going to move that much of a margin unless they have to. keep an eye out on ozbargain under laptops for other deals going

  • damn, thanks for letting me know anyway!
