  • Bugger, I just bought one from Coles for $10 last week.

  • You should list what data and other benefits you get with the Starter Pack - $5 for just a sim card is a pretty rubbish deal

    • +1

Why? My son uses them and it’s basically telstra

        • What John Howard said lol

      • +6

I'm using belong and have had no issues at all. It is equivalent to aldimobile - telstra resale network, numbers are not telstra numbers like for boost so you can port between telstra and belong. I've had great service so far.

      • +5

Switched from Boost with a $40 starter pack a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't be much happier:

        • Speed is 100mbps most of the time around the city and suburbs (which is more than you'll likely ever need in a mobile - Telstra's 200+ mbps 4G is nice but ultimately overkill).

        • Telstra Wholesale coverage may be meant to mimic the Optus/Vodafone networks, but it is still better, with many regional areas having better coverage than the other two networks.

        • Double data in first month, meaning a $40 kit bought for $15-20 (readily available) will get you 80GB, which can then be rolled over into the very cheap basic monthly plan ($10), plus $20 referral credit gives you your first two renewals for free (I had the $50 referral, meaning I've got six months of service with more data than I need).

        • The cherry on top is you can gift your data to other users, meaning all that data you accumulate is never wasted, unlike with most other Telcos.

The only drawback I've found is the call service (not VoLTE), which is not as sharp as Boost.

But who cares, when you're paying peanuts for extremely good phone service.

        • +1

Not sure about Boost but the biggest drawback I found was it not working overseas with no option at all for roaming, I had a couple of situations where I needed to receive verification texts and couldn’t

The lack of voicemail may annoy some but I’m good with it

    • Yes I agree ☝️ Belong are a bunch of Thieves and Liars …Blocking / then Cancelling your number !!!!

  • -8

Not sure why anybody would bother, when AldiMobile is a better deal (and also uses Telstra).

    • +3

      which Aldi mobile deal?

    • +7

I am pretty sure This is Best deal in Au about mobile service…

If you think Aldi is better, just because you dont know how to use it..

    • +31

Belong deals are good because you get double allocation of the initial data in your first month.

$25 starter pack comes with 10GB so you start with 20GB.

Data banking means you get to keep the 20GB until you cancel service.

Use a referral at signup and get $20 credit.

After initial month is billed, change to $10 plan. Two months free because of above credit.

All up you get 3 months of service with unlimited calls & SMS, and 20GB for $5 outlay.

$1.67/mo for 6.66gb/mo is hard to beat.

      • +22

Or if you are a low data user you could make this last for 4 months with 5GB.

        • Buy $25 sim for $5.00.
        • Activate on the $10 plan and get double data - 2GB (double data explained @ Whirpool under Billing and Payments
        • Use a referral code when activating for $20 bonus credit.
        • You'd still have $5.00 left over so the 5th month would only cost $5.00.

Not sure which Aldi deal beats either of these 2 options for $5.00.

        • +1

Better deal than the Amaysim deals which we gobble up on here.

        • +3

Or you could use the $5 to buy the international pack for a month?

Belong offers an international inclusions pack with unlimited calls and texts from Australia to over 30 countries for $5 per month.

        • I thought there was a coupon on activating that credited $50, maybe an ozbargain one?

      • +1

Thank you so much, this is exactly what I want as my Amaysim 6 months running out.

      • Do you have to wait until billing before changing?

        • It's up to you. If you want 2x10GB of data then you need to wait for the first $25 bill to occur, then switch plans.

If you can live with 10GB, then you can immediately switch plans and do what Arthur Dunger suggested.

  • +2

Also Belong has peace of mind data for their prepaid plans. I use Belong for my teenager kid so that way the high speed allocation is limited and once over, I do not get hit with excess charges.

    • That's very good!

As month's quoter for the high school students.

    • It's speed throttled to 256 kbps which is really pretty slow, and technically not peace of mind data which a Telstra term for throttling to 1500 kbps.

"reach 100% of your data allowance the speed of your service will be slowed to 256kps for the remainder of the month."

  • I'm looking to exit boost to another telco that's not telstra so I can port back in at a later date to get those JB hifi voucher deals. Anyone know a service like this that's either optus or voda?

    • -2

      boost

      • what? i'm looking to exit boost lol.
if you didn't already know, boost is telstra direct, not wholesale.

    • +2

Catch Connect is Optus, $10 for 90 days here.

      • +2

        edit: already expired. :(

        • Ignore that, it's still active. Don't forget to go through Cashrewards for the $5 Cashback.

          • +1

@Arthur Dunger: old deal seems expired. but it seems to be 60gb now instead of 54gb.

    • +3

If you are immediately wanting to insta port back to a Telstra provider do this:
Order a Free Optus Sim but make sure you activate it over the live chat so you don't have to recharge.

Otherwise go with Exetel, Catch, Amaysim or Kogan as they are reasonably cheap

    • Why couldn't you use this deal (Belong)?

      • +1

Telstra doesn't allow a port-in from Belong and Boost for their deals.

  • +1

OP should add details of the referral codes into the title - it'll make the deal a whole lot sweeter, and help out a random Ozbargainer among the hundreds who have put their codes down. :)

  • Woolworths strathpine just scanned at $10. What gives?

    • then it's not all Woolworths as per claim on original post

    • Same here

Went to 2 local woolies, first one was out of stock but the packets at the second one scanned for $10 as well.

Still grabbed one as its still a good deal once you tack on the $20 referral code

  • Just grabbed a couple for $5 each at Mawson Lakes, SA

  • +2

Belong deosn't have voicemail. Its message2txt error rate is very high.

    • +2

Agree.. Often I got some too funny converted message

    • Do you have any issues with landlines being unable to call you?

      • I used to have problem Optus number cannot call me. This was the time with Voda.

    • +1

Yes, I am looking to port wife's number off Belong for this reason. Didn't realise when I signed up for it (as I just assumed everywhere had voicemail).

      • I actually like message2txt. I usually can't be bothered calling back the voicemail and listening to message. Saves me time.

  • I ported in December. Couldn’t be happier. Where I am in regional QLD and the trips I make there is no difference between this and when I was on Telstra reception wise.

  • Misread the title, assumed it was $40. Still useful but that extra $5 will go to waste if using it for a $10 plan.

Can get 2 months free at anytime: https://www.belong.com.au/mobile/get-sim

    • How?

      • Just enter a referral code and you get $20 credit.

        • Oh ok, i thought it was another offer

    • The extra $5 will stay on the account and be credited on the next bill, so it won't be wasted.

      • Sorry, I should have clarified that the only reason I would get the deal would be to get 4 months for $5. Paying $5 for an extra month is not as attractive from that perspective.

  • I think this ends on 21st Jan.
Picked one up last week and activated today.

  • Does it have an expiry day?

    • +1

The sims are usually valid for 12 months. Last time, I activated it 6 months after buying with no issues.

      • I mean does it have an expiry day after activation?

        • Once you activate, it is a 30-day plan, if that's what you mean.

  • This coupled with a referral code will give you an additional $20

  • Tried 2x woolies near strathfield in sydney and no stocks. Do they even stock it?

  • What sort of expiry do these have. Just starting a catch 3 month pre paid

    • +1

Sims are valid for 12 months from the purchase date.

  • Can you use the referral code and activate as $40 plan?

    • I’d say so. I just used my $80 start up sim and coupled it with a referral

  • +2

To get an extra $20 you can use a referral code from here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/belong.com.au

    • If I use this referral it becomes $45 credit. How many GB data will that give me?

      • You can potentially get 80GB of data. Use a referral and activate on the large 40GB plan and avoid activating on the 4th, 12th, 20th and 28th dates of the month you'll get double the data that way.

      • 120GB if you setup this as a burn sim, then gift the GBs to your main sim/friends.

        • Do you want to explain how the math works on this one when you are starting with a $25 SIM pack with a $20 referral credit.

          • @DoctorCalculon:

            • Setup on the $40 plan (80GB), as described above with referral (1st month: Bal $5).
            • Insert sim into a spare phone.
            • Cancel payment method.
            • 40GB (2nd month: Bal -$35)
            • @nemo5: I guess you are able to do this since Belong like Catch Connect does not really verify customer ID during the sign up process.
Regardless, are you saying that Belong will not persue the $35 debt?

            • @nemo5:

              40GB (2nd month: Bal -$35)

Care to elaborate what actions Belong will take to recover the $35 debt? This is bordering on illegal / theft, isn't?

  • +1

When do these expire? My boost expires in June and these tricks sound great

  • $10 VIC Woolies.
    Airport West

  • +1

The original price of $25 for 10Gb data is a very bad deal.

You can get a lot more data in a similar price range from other telcos.

    • +1

You actually get 20gb in the 1st month plus $20 extra credit with a referral code (see comments above)

Regardless no Ozbargainer is buying these at normal price anyway.

  • +4

This was a Woolworths pricing error. The price was changed to $10 this morning Nationally

    • +2

      'Excuse me'!!!

      • You're excused !!

    • +3

Just went to Bentley, WA, can confirm still $5. This info is incorrect.

      • +1

Can confirm it's still $5 in a VIC store

    • seems like all stores didn't sync with the database update until the next morning.

  • +3

Purchased $5 Marion SA 15 mins ago!

  • +1

I just got a $5 one in Mayfield, Thanks!
Btw: It kind of price-matches Coles current special of $20 for the 40gb plan.

  • Seems like SA only.

  • +1

Purchased $5 at Greenway ACT ~9:30pm. Thanks OP

  • +1

I also bought one for $5 at Springfield QLD at 8:10pm. There were two left when I purchased mine.

    Thanks for the post OP!

  • I should have bought two.

  • Was recently with Belong mobile and they don't actually have a voicemail. Left after less than a month when I got a 'Message2Txt' (their voicemail replacement) saying they couldn't translate the message the caller left. So went back to Amaysim which has voicemail.

    • +2

No call history as well, very basic function account

  • +1

    $10 VIC Parkmore

changing landscapes. Chicks focused GRL mobile even dropped from list!

Dying for some real 5G action!

    • +1

5G only of much interest for broadband IMO…it's not difficult to get 100+ Mbps on MVNOs, which is far more than a mobile phone can typically use.

    • ScuseMe :"This was a Woolworths pricing error. The price was changed to $10 this morning Nationally" 16/1/20
Does this say on special for $5 from 6/1 to 4/2.
      Can I get a rain check ?
