      • Would we be too late by tonight? Any chance we could make it indooroopilly?

        • I'm not in your area but my harvey normans hardly had any people looking at this deal went to 2 different stores in my area and both had only about 2-3 people looking at the buy one get one free deal in the laptop section and this was at 9am-9:30am so I don't think you will have any problem IMO

        • Maybe but i have only a short window between babysitting, i can get out at 5.45pm - 6.00pm and must be back before 6.30pm. No i can't go anywhere but Ipswich sorry.

        • No can do sorry. Ipswich is like an hour away from my place. I wonder if I should just get the deal and wait for another ozbargainer to buy it from me. Pickup from 4069 postcode?

    • So in the end, did you get the laptop?

  • +8

Why do people insist on being difficult and persisting with these silly discussions?
Clearly the intention is for AMD CPU laptops. It's all well and good to joke about it, but insisting on how HN HAS to honour it is just annoying and a waste of thread space where people could actually be contributing.

If you do try this in store and get lucky with some naive salesperson, then congratulations and please come back and post here so we can laugh along with you. But don't come here acting like you are entitled to it because of a clearly unintended technicality.

  • +7

Went, wasn't impressed by anything, bought nothing lol

    • +4

Did you get another nothing for equal or lesser value?

      • +5

yeh i got zilch with my nothing :)

    • +5

Sounds like a normal visit to HN

    • I did too also the salesman looked so disappointed when I said bye bye Lol

      Really OVERPRICED!

  • +1

Was gonna post this, but after a phone-call at ~2pm yesterday, they advised it's limited to AMD, and stocks are quite low. I'll buy whatever's best on the day, but for my/my-family/my-business/my-dog's needs, it hasn't been AMD for a LONG time :(

  • +4

just bought Asus A53B for $598 and got 1 free.

    • -1

Technically going by the price of the first one you got the second one for about $150.

      Still a good deal though.

    • +1

Unless you REALLY need 2 low-end laptops (or have a way to sell one easily), this deal is more or less a marketing trick. Considering HVN was offering an i7 quad core laptop for about the same price 1 month earlier, these AMD laptops are not attractive.

A 50% off AMD laptop deal would be better - but HVN's ticketed price is still inflated on pretty much all these AMD laptops.

    • Is this the one listed as a53by? I can't find specs for it anywhere (the harvey norman website is useless - lists a GPU as its CPU!)

Can you at least tell us what CPU it has?

      • E-350 2 cores 1.6 GHZ

    • are you selling the 2nd one. pls pm me if you are.cheers

  • +4

Went to Knox HN this morning. Nothing of interest. Prices seemed inflated. Saw a few other people just walk in and out again. Big money wasted on massive advertising campaingns. Cut the crap and just give decent every day prices in store.

    • +4

they are aiming to rip off money from people who buy without know what they want or do research first.

  • Anyone that lives in Sydney - Near the city want to go halfies on a laptop lol

    • which laptop u after?

      • Any of them for about $1000-$1200

        • oh…..
          I m interested in Asus A53BY or Asus K53U-SX007V

  • Welllllllllll

    Talked to the head office

Looks like they have now updated the website because of my call at 9am

Clearly states no apple and sony now…

I'm not done yet it was still miss leading conduct

    • How about getting them on lack of stock?

  • For the people who are not tech savvy and wants a decent laptop just for day to day task, this is a very good deal.
Went to HN and saw about 10 people walking out of the shop with two similar laptop box. they looked pretty happy. There are lot of people who would go to HN even without a sale rather than browsing, researching and buying online. buy one get one free is pretty good deal even though they are bit over priced.

  • better range than in domayne than HN, had a few select Toshi and HP i7's on sale as well.

  • I picked up a couple of the HP DM1z ones, worked out to 698, which is 349 each. The cheapest on StaticICE is $517, so did well there.

will set it up in a bit, didn't really find any others that interested me.

    • Where'd you get them?

      • Fyshwick, ACT

    • HN HighPoint sells HP DM1 for 680.

  • Any officeworks price matching success to report?

  • The $600 ASUS (A53BY) sold out martin place (Sydney). Didn't get specs, sorry.

  • +1

what a scam, no AMD model for less than $1000 was on show at the adelaide city harvey norman.

not sure why i'm surprised though, to be honest.

  • -1

    Sold out?

    • +1

I was there at about 10am and they weren't busy in the slightest so if they tried to pull that excuse I would call bullshit pretty quickly. Typical Harvey Norman behaviour.

    • -1

More like never had much stock in the first place.

  • The Melb City store had a $499 Compaq in the buy 1 get one free sale available. I didnt get the specs.
I bought 2 of the ASUS A53T for $1098 (http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256979387032/asus-at…) however i only want 1, anyone in Melbourne want to buy the 2nd off me for half the price tag - so $549.. if so msg me

    • im interested mate.

  • +7

I work for Harvey Norman and it has been crazy - we sold out the cheaper machines quickly, it was 1st come 1st served.. so how is that us ripping ppl off. Also we are selling the machines the same price today as we were last week, so how is that inflating prices? I know a lot of ppl have it in for HN but in the 10 off years i have worked here we havent done anything like this b4. please tell how getting 2 laptops valued at $1199 for $600 each is a bad deal. We have a lot of happy customers walking out today thats all i care about.

    • +2

So are you the guy who's been scalping all the HP touchpads on eBay, sent using a Harvey Norman shipping account?

    • Hi Raticus, whats the returns policy on these machines? the melb cbd store have said no returns, whereas greenborogh have told me they will return it, but only stock purchased from their store.. i got a mate who bought some but has changed his mind.

      • yeah yeah whats the policy my mate ! also got a couple to and now me wife sorry his wife said what where you thinking so I sorry he needs to return them?

    • What about staff buying before public could? That does create shortage. Same hapenned with TouchPad. How do you explain that?

      • +2

You think HN is the only place this happens? Staff get first crack everywhere. Should they NOT get a chance because they have to be at work selling it to you?

Staff just happen to be the first customers into the store.

    • +1

+1 for working at HN for a decade!

  • HP Pavilion DM1 sold out in Brisbane CBD, I called Garden City and they guy said it is not included in their promo (really???? I thought it was all Harvey Norman), anyway I called Carindale and they still had some so rushed quickly to get it. I am pissed off at Garden City for trying to rip people, don't they get it, it is all AMD CPUs!!!!

    • HP touchpad I was there and witnessed number of HN staff having their litle hand on 3-4 of them in Dandenong store.

    • Sell your second one to me for $350?

      • Sorry, my friend already bought it off me.

  • harvey norman joondalup & osborne park = sold out

  • Got 4 at Caringbah this morning…had to grab some for my mates..there were selling like hotcakes…great for basic home use…..

  • Popped into Harvey Norman in Sydney CBD at lunchtime and the cheapest AMD laptops they had were:

    • $380 eMachine Laptop ("reduced from $599") with 15.6" screen, 2GB Ram, 500GB HDD, 2.20Ghz Dual Core, HDMI Out, 720p native resolution, 6 cell battery, Windows 7 Home Premium
    • $499 Compaq with 4GB Ram, 500GB HDD, and I didn't really look at the rest of the specs as I'd already decided to get a couple of the cheap eMachines.

Not a bad deal at all! JBHifi sells it for $598 - http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/laptops/ema… (but comes with 4GB Ram) and it is still showing as $599 on Harvey Norman's website (but that's not even the version with 500GB HDD!)

I see some of you are saying that this deal only applies to the RRP, but wasn't the case when I got mine; the 2 offers were combined. If I sell the spare for $300 or so I will have got myself a capable media/internet laptop with HDMI and a decent battery for $80. Just what I was looking for :)

    • +1

Got the emachine for $345 at the Doymane/Harvey Norman Auburn store. You get 6gb DDR3 ram which is great and not advertised is the $59 cash back for each laptop so $108 back. $798 - $108 = $690

      • can you please post reciept ?

      • eh? Not sure I follow you, so you're saying you paid $798 for a pair of emachine laptops? Doesn't sound like it's the same one I got..

If you paid $345 on the other hand, good job!

        • Dear randomnames123, can you please post your receipt so I can get a price match ?

      • wonderboy, can you please post the reciept?

    • -1

Can you please post your receipt ?

  • Harvy Norman Alexandria still have heaps i just got the best deal on a DV6 model and take the add on's they are giving them away cheap as well, its busy but they still did a good job hip hip hooray

  • +1

Harvey, you have done it again. They have marked up the price and worked out to be only marginally cheaper than officework. I will neg Harvey if I can.

  • +1

    Interesting…

There is a HP system listed which is EOL on HN site for $1098 with a BOGOF offer.

That same laptop was in HN in August for $716

Now I know that there is still a saving, but putting something back up to RRP which is $350+ than what was on your floor last month and doing the BOGOF is a little bit of a joke!

    • I suppose you expect BOGOF and 40% off too!
RRP means nothing. Like all retailers Harvey Norman puts prices back to "everyday prices" after the end of a 4 or 5 day sale or catalogue. They within their rights to do so. If you don't like it - too bad.
It seems plenty of ppl are happy buying these machines.
Prices for any stock let over (or new delivery of stocks) will go back to the normal price - as they did after the 40% off sale!

Things like BOGOF are subsidized by the suppliers.

  • Just popped in HV at Gordon an hour ago…..yes 2 for 1 is for AMD CPU based notebook only (no netbook has AMD cpu just yet). Price is RRP instead of any discounted price, and you get the second one of equal or lesser valua AMD based notebook free.
I scan through the RRP prices, not particularly impress especially the price seems a bit dated (sic, old and high unrealistic price). I have expected the new AMD A-Series CPU based notebook to be less than $1,2k at the most but A6 and A8 based notebook have pricing >$1.4k…..so not sure if price has been jacked up.
(note: A-Series CPU/GPU beats any Gen 2 Intel i3/i5/i7 integrated graphic performance by big margin, and your Crysis is playable on its integrated GPU alone abide at lower resolution. Other performance is a bit lacking but unless you do super computing like calculation, then it does not matter.)
I did ask if they will do 2 for 1 on one of the top rated i7 notebook, surprising the answer is YES. (then I came back to do some research and found I can actually buy 2x of the same notebook for the same price….oops!)
All in all, I came away underwhelm….was intended to actually purchase A8 notebook but decided to wait till the price drop towards Christmas.

  • snapped up the last 2 e642G for 529 @ Indooroopily, overheard 1 salesman whilst I was waiting selling the same machine for ~700 to an unwary customer, it didn't have a price tag on it O_o

    • -1

Can you please post receipt ?

  • I went to HN Chadstone this morning and there were at least 15 people waiting outside. As far as I could tell all of them wanting an AMD notebook. I am no great fan of HN, generally way more expensive than elsewhere unless you bargain hard. Gerry is arogant and anti competitive, but to be fair as far as I could tell this was genuine . Walked out with two low end Compaqs for $498 and they had around 20 in stock. By 9.30 they were all gone. I am a Mac man just wanted these so there is a Pc in the house. I have to agree with raticus it wasn't a scam as far as I could tell.

  • I visited the Chatswood store around 5:30pm and they had a few of each laptop in stock.

    • ASUS A53BY or K53U in stock?

  • Anyone in Canberra (Woden) interested in going halves? Can meet there any time today. Just after a basic laptop to surf the net on while overseas next week. Would like to keep receipt to claim the GST refund.

  • Looking for anyone in Sydney to go halvies on a Acer Aspire 5560G or ASUS A53TA. PM me!

  • All that seems to be left are $1200+ items!

  • Many stores have sold out of ALL AMD's

My local store is selling INTEL Models now.

    Dv6-6134 & DV6-6136 to name two models.

But having only 60 in stock means they will go in the first 10 minutes on a Saturday morning!

    • May I ask which store this is?? Will this be the case for all HNs?

      • +1

I was told that if a store sells out of AMD - They then have a backup so they dont get into trouble the ACCC etc. Ask!

        • Great thanks. :) Very useful post!

    • Which store is that?

  • Who is keen to buy an asus with me around 1000? Pls message me

    • im interested

  • Just thought I'd point out that most stores have sold out of pretty much all of their AMD Laptops.
So most of the advertisements have gone down, but if there are AMD's they'll still be on sale till monday!

  • Anyone selling their 2nd one located in Melbourne please call me 0403886647. Prefer an ASUS.

  • I love promotions like this. It really shows the true colors of the average human being these days. Of course Harvey Norman is trying to make money from this promotion. I dont remember seeing them listed as a charity organisation. Nor do i remember Australia becoming a communist nation.

Just out of curiosity, all of those people who are crying so hard on here about some retailers motivation for a promotion or nit picking the fine print - which year did you kids stop buying petrol? The amount they've mucked around with thier prices must have had you crying yourselves to sleep most nights.
