which laptop model do they give you ? i doubt it will be the same as what you buy…

    • +2

They weren't specific in the add about it just said 'another AMD laptop'

      • +11

Probably buy a laptop, get an overstocked crappy netbook free.

        • +9

When I go to HN I was surprised to see the sticker prices and was wondering why their prices are always simply double from the prices in USA. May be this is why.. they might always be marking the price for 2 units not for 1. Then it's a fair price. Now I start understanding the pricing model in here.. lols :D

    • +10

AMD is a CPU manufacturer just like Intel.

If you are trolling then it's not funny lol

      • +6

can u walk in to HN and ask to buy AMD laptop like you would ask for a Dell or HP?

        • +27

Yeah you can, just like how you go in and ask for one of the new Intel notebooks. You know. With that sandy bridge thing. And some extra Gbs.

        • +15

don't forget to ask for the wifi's and the white one if they have it!

        • +11

ask for the one with the bigger GB's

        • +21

          does it have the megahertz?

        • +2

          Hello, Hello

        • How do you pronounce Gbs? Like Gibbs? Coz then I may as well go dressed up as a goth chick because thats how I'll feel

      • +3

I don’t get why the negative votes he got for asking a question. I myself thought AMD was the brand until I read the helpful response that answered the question. :S

    • +24

      why are you guys 'negging'?

an average consumer wouldn't know the difference between Antel and AMD

      • +42

Don't you mean Antel and IMD? :-)

        • +7

          LMAO

        • omg guys, stop!

      • +3

An average consumer needs to learn how to use Google.

I think its really essential for people to identify the potential tool of a search engine in all aspects of life. Don't know how to floss properly? Same deal.

Not trolling here. Although if everyone knew how to google-fu, we'd be out of jobs really… The non-specific ones like tech support etc.

    • +2

      amd is a finance-friendly brand

  • -1

    can you choose the laptop?

  • I'm guessing excludes Apple laptops.
Otherwise I'd be getting some 13" Macbook Airs.

    • +5

arent the macbook airs all running intel sandy bridge chips anyway?

      • +2

Ah yeah missed the AMD bit, thanks.

    • +8

Apple don't use any AMD CPU's, so yes, they would be excluded.

      • +5

But the poster says "processor", not CPU. 15" and 17" MBPs have AMD GPUs ;)

      • +2

Well, some of them use ATI graphics cards, which are AMD.

  • +4

Just heard it on the radio as well. No specific model… just buy any laptop and get a second laptop free

      • +4

As someone said above, Apple use Intel CPU's, not AMD CPU's, so no.

        • +3

          yes it does.

just grab an apple laptop off the shelf and take it up with the cheapo AMD laptop you're buying and you're laughing.

  • +12

Wait for the price mark up.

    • +9

Agree - double the price and then sell 2 for the price of 1.

Don't worry, plenty of people will do no research and fall for this.

  • +20

    Confirmed in-store.

Buy any AMD laptop, and get a second one of the same type free

  • +2

Is this in VIC as well ?

    • +2

Called up the one in swans, so…yeah

  • +1

Why isnt anyone else jumping for joy like I am?

Defs gunna sell the second one online :X

    • +13

Because i am pretty sure they have marked up the prices to factor in your freebie. I'll be suprised if they offer you the same prices you can find on shopbot plus give you the freebie.

  • +1

So this starts tomorrow ? or on the weekend ?

  • +1

I'll be there first thing tomorrow :)

    • +2

      i'll beat you there ;)

      • +7

I'm camping outside the shop 2nite.

        • +11

I'm camping inside the shop 2nite

        • I'll set up the kiosk in front of you guys

  • +52

"Limited to 1 per person" so you can't get out with 2 laptops Lol

    • LOL where does it say that hehe

    • +1

ahhhh Gerry… you've done it again!

    • +1

lol the salesman offered to sell me 14 units at once :) took 8 of them LOL

  • +5

Which laptop is the cheapest eligible for this deal?

    This one is nearly $600…
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256976294256/asus-ku…

Even with 2 of these… well… price per laptop is probably okay… but 2 15 inch low end AMD laptops? I need to remind myself I don't need 2 more laptops which are slower than my slowest laptop.

  • +2

    Netbooks too then?

    • +1

i'd like to know this too.

and if so: Asus 1015B or Toshiba NB550D?

      • +1

The specs (A, T) seem nearly identical. Hopefully someone can chip in with links to things like battery life etc.

Is $250 a good price for these, though?

        • not really, they are about market price value lol

          a 1215b would have been a bargain ><

    • did you know HN online store is not right and some store have more laptops just saying. but yeah AMD is not that great as intel.

      • +1

thats like saying ferrari is not as good as lamborghini. One of them is always going to have an edge over the other and at the moment it is intel, few years back it was AMD.

        • +5

I don't recall AMD laptops ever being preferred over Intel. These will be getting cleared out to make room for newer kit around the corner with bulldozer being released. Dollar for dollar current gen Intel is the choice over these AMD laptops, even at a 2 to 1 dollar ration, Intel would make more sense, with these AMD laptops your buying a year old spec machine (if not older).

        • amd is more like gm/chevrolet/holden while intel is like ferrari and porsche

    • -1

My mate works at harvey norman and we ran a few benchmarks on gen 2 i7 with a 6770m with 8gig ddr3 against a A8 3850mx with crossfire with a 6750m.

The amd was 10% better?! suck that intel

      • +5

no he doesn't, no you didn't, no it didn't, no it wasn't and no it wont.

  • +1

In the dup post the guy said Laptop starts at $450+ anyone know which one they were talking about?

  • +2

    Is this national wide?

    • +1

Yep according to the add its every store!

  • +2

yeh just heard the advert on Radio 2UE and says prices start from $498 buy one get one free offer ends monday

  • +1

Does any of the AMD have cashback also?

  • +6

You can never trust Harveys….could be great could be dodgy….I can only get in tomorrow to find out….have heard that the RRPs have been raised to compensate but all will be resolved tomorrow I guess.

    • +5

if you print out price online, most would honor it.

Try to get an HP with their 40% sale, got quoted a higher price, advise them of the web price and they said would sell at web price.

would be a good idea to do so today in case they jack up web price also!

  • +2

What about HP laptops ? they have AMD graphics cards

    • +1

      AMD Processors only sorry

    • +2

Looks like netbooks aren't included!? Maybe if you get in early the salesperson mightn't be up on the details and you might be lucky!?

      • +2

The $498 price applies to a netbook.. there aren't any laptops on their site for this price, so I'm guessing netbooks are also included.

      • I believe this is the netbook/(notebook) they are refering to
        http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256976271283/toshiba…

        • It can't be Toshiba NB550D as it has Intel Atom processor and the sale is for AMD processors only

        • @bob19

          that's weird
the specs say it has a AMD C50
but the general description says it has an Intel Atom

  • +2

Posted on their facebook page not much info

    • +2

Just they don't say how many laptops they got in the shops.

HN might only sell some laptops just to enjoy the longest cue outside hehe tomorrow you guys give feedback ok??

    • I like this line: Terms and conditions apply - see in store for details

  • +1
    • +3

Look up, listed 14 minutes before you.

  • +1

so you get to choose your second laptop, only req that it is equal or lesser value?

  • +1

i dont think they will sell the hp dv6 102 ax for $1000, its rrp is $1598, just bought one for $1000 somewhere…so basically sell an amd laptop for rrp, then give away their cheapest amd laptop…

  • +2

It takes 2 AMD laptops to feel like an INTEL anyway. :)

    • +8

True, I just did a quick search on AMD quad core processor and it seems that the cheapest quad-core amd on HN is not nearly as good as a dual core i5.

      • +2

I was thinking of getting the AMD Dual core one for $598 but now doing some reading these are not that great compared with i3 which is proberly the lowest cpu I would buy…. not sure to get this deal or not now…

        • +2

I think you should hold out. Especially with Windows8 on the horizon. I had my eye on the Asus Quadcore, but after some research, found that the cpu blows (even though the graphics was good).

  • +1

why dont you buy a cheap one then get a expensive one or try to bargin it down and sell the crap one ???

Sounds like a bargin to me?

    • +2

From my experience, they dont usually let you bargain when these promotions are running.

And damn the A8's seriously suck. I was tempted until I did some reasearch.

      • +3

Likewise. It looks awesome at first glance. Afterwards? Not so much

  • +1

what is the best amd computer they do have.

    • +1

gotta check instore i know their online store is not showing all amd laptops i might go in and check tomorrow
