Decent price for a good quality knock box delivered. It's not too large so it won't take up too much bench space.

May be useful for all those who recently purchased coffee machines.

Some good discussion about this knock box in the comments here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/539702

This is a good size. I drink 3-4 coffees a day and my knock box is about this size. Anything bigger would mean mould growth.

    • A larger one would most likely be only suited to a large commercial cafe for the fact of having a big bin and a pressurized spray gun in a scullery… These would work fine for anywhere else….

    • I have this unit and a much larger one. I use this one because the other gets mould growth and then it's a pain to clean.

But the Grindenstein's bar can get too much in the way of the puck and stop it coming out, until of course you've moved the portafilter away and see the puck land on the table. And I have a smaller, 55mm PF (smaller than the typical 58mm on expensive machines, larger than most department store machines though). No wish to concentrate on trivial tasks like this.

I'll replace mine eventually with a larger footprint, yet still shallow unit.

    • Agree, great size, looks like the one I got from coffeeparts years ago

      • Just checked, $27.50 in 2008 - still going strong (albeit all in storage a number of years)

I just use a Tupperware box. Any advantages of using this instead other than looks?

The advantage of my cheap $2 box is that it's easier to clean and I have loads of them so when one is in the dishwasher there is another one spare.

The coffee can be hard to knock out of the group handle. So you want the bar across the top.

May as well just knock it over the edge of the garbage bin.

      • That has to be a very, very clean garbage bin.

Also, half of the puck lands outside the bin. Unless you hit that edge with the handle - then there's a good chance the basket will detach from the portafilter, straight to the bin with the grounds and you need to dip your hand there.

Assuming the bin (or compost bin) has a liner of course, but agree it's not ideal - was purely suggesting Tupperware is not much better.

Cheaper machines yeah the basket will come out - I made the mistake once of having a cheap Breville machine in my Airbnb once and often had to search the bin for the basket.

But I need flathead screwdrivers to pry my spring clipped baskets out of my other machines.

    $11 delivery for me

  • Showing a delivery fee - probably ebay Plus.

    • yep, free for me on plus

  • These are well built and store on your drip tray out of the way. We empty it 1-2x per day depending on the amount of people filtering through the house and it goes in the dish washer. You'd be hard pressed getting 7 pucks in there or whatever they advertised back when I got it. Because if any are too far upright they smash all over the bench next time you knock one out. But it's better than having a giant mouldy bucket on the bench.

  • I've had this one for 10 years- gets whacked at least 3x/d. empty it every 2-3 days. still looks brand new- love it!

  • Ah, didn't know it was free delivery for eBay plus only. I'll adjust accordingly.

SO $32,60 on ebay with shipping for non ebay plus people or $30 and free delivery on Amazon if anyone is interested.

Bought one many years ago. On the original design, the bar had a plastic join down the middle inside the rubber sleeve. That eventually broke. When I bought it, the packaging stated lifetime guarantee. So contacted them, and they replaced no problem. Not sure if they still offer the lifetime guarantee.

  • I was given one that looks the same by a cafe owner friend in 2008/9 as a present.
More than 10 years and 1000s of knocks later, not only does it still function, it still looks brand new! - no marks, no knicks, very little wear…
If its the same or anything close, then well worth it.

  • Only Red left

    • I have the red one, it looks the nicest! Good price here, and I dont think I've found a better one.

  • I have this box and it fits perfectly under my Breville infuser. Great box if you don't have much bench space.

  • agreed, great product. have had ours for ~10 years and going strong still. good size for 3-4 cups/day, emptying every 2nd day or so.. highly recommended, especially at this price!
