expired Qantas BNE/SYD/MEL - LAX $850 Return (approx) Incl. All Taxes and Fees Booked through Expedia.ie
This was posted 1 year 5 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
EDIT - Fellow Ozbargainers have confirmed this is working well into 2013
This crazy low fare appears to be only available on the Irish Expedia site. I have tested with various dates and can confirm the search works between September and early December 2012. I successfully booked return flights for two pax BNE - LAX from 26/10/12 - 16/11/12, and also two pax MEL - LAX 18/11/12 - 9/12/12. Good luck fellow Ozbargainers, hopefully many people get this price before their site gets Ozbargained!
Forgot to mention, I tried to book with my 28 Degrees card and it failed. 28 Degrees called me about 15mins later to check it wasn't dodgy. Unfortunately I had used an alternative card in the interim and copped an international transaction fee. Oh well not to worry, at this price who cares?!

but, arent all developed economies going to be affected by eurozone crisis???? Why will our dollar struggle against the rest of the world more than other countries, say america?
Yes, you are correct about interest rate cuts, this is to slow inflation which causes higher interest rates… but as for Europe affecting aus more than anywhere else…
+2 votesTrance N Dance on 21/05/2012 - 23:01 ¶Euro crisis scares investors (regardless of where they invest). Australia's currency is considered to be a trader's currency and when investors get scared they withdraw their investments causing whatever currency they invested in (these investments also include money parked into Australian banks which are among the highest interest rates around) to crash.
That's only one of the many reasons and is a simply explanation of what's going, but that should explain things simply.

Try to not look so bleak about it, remember at one point when our dollar was at 25 USD cents? lol
-1 voteTrance N Dance on 22/05/2012 - 00:19 ¶I don't think the AUD has ever gone below 50 US cents… and that was back in 2000-2001
The lowest it's been post-GFC was just above 60 US cents (I think 62ish?). The RBA "stepped in" and bought a large amount of AUD with it's foreign currency reserves and gold stock or something to try and rise the AUD.

-1 voteTrance N Dance on 21/05/2012 - 17:45 ¶Minus fees and conversion charges that should be about $900 (unless you use something like a 28 Degrees card)
Looking at the QANTAS website this is an impressive deal!
Considering it's $1300+whatever CC fees there is.Edit:
It's $1299.62 + $30 CC fee for the flights the OP booked ex Brisbane
+29 votesMaybe everyone can book the same dates as the OP and turn the flights into OzB charters. God help the flight attendants if that were ever to happen. People would be trying to price match Singapoiore airport duty free prices with the qantas inflight duty free sales, etc etc etc

We are going to LAX on Aug 24 on QF11. Everybody is quite excited about going on A380.
Unfortunately Qantas just changed it to 747.
I did a bit of search and found they now use 747 on QF11 on some Fridays. If you guys wanna fly on Friday, you might want to double check.
Benjaminhh on 21/05/2012 - 18:18 ¶I'm only receiving approximately $850 for one way (roughly €1343 return) for the multiple searches I've made.
EDIT: Nevermind, misunderstood the site.

joeysarsenal on 21/05/2012 - 18:30 ¶the dates i found seemed normal, anyone want to give examples of the dates they booked?
+1 voteTrance N Dance on 21/05/2012 - 18:36 ¶That's a very good point.
@randompunter
What made you look on the Irish site in the first place?!

zango_tango_007 on 21/05/2012 - 19:09 ¶does anyone know a good site to book flights between US cities, looking to go NY??
BTW, thanks a lot op, booked a flight. dam you ozbargain…making me offers that i can not refuse …lol !!

I use www.kayak.com. It doesn't get every airline but does do most.
twitch1979 on 22/05/2012 - 08:07 ¶when I travelled in the US hands down the best airline for domestic was Soutwest http://www.southwest.com/
They do not charge extra for a bags and should you need to cancel your booking for any reason they credit you in full and you can then use that credit to book another flight with them.
This was very handy in making alterations to your journey once you are state side.
+1 voteit is a good deal, but not an all time great like the time the British were treated to LA flights for £130, now that was an all time top deal http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/amazing-flights-deal-from-uk...
+2 votesPreSsieGuY on 21/05/2012 - 19:51 ¶is this working for anyone?
ive tried 2 different browsers and on my phone and cant get it to progress after clicking search for flights
PreSsieGuY on 21/05/2012 - 20:08 ¶took a while, i think you gotta keep refreshing and type in a city, then the auto populate thing would work.

sternocleido on 21/05/2012 - 20:02 ¶Thanks heaps OP - booked flights for August- 1300 euro return for the misses and I. Your a champ!
As for FF - It asked me to enter my number, so I did! Assume I get them
Trance N Dance on 21/05/2012 - 20:32 ¶Not necessarily, I remember booking a flight for my uncle on one of these sights, you can put in a FF number but he never got the points, he rang up the airline to check and they gave them to him anyway (can't remember what airline it was, he's been over a few times and on a different airline each time…)
allegiance86 on 21/05/2012 - 20:03 ¶Prices are totally different for me :(
edit:December dates cause it to rise
+4 votesGood one OP, booked 2 adults/2 kids return for 2 weeks in November
Total price AU$3000 - amazing!
Got a phone call from c/card issuer too (bankwest) - just checking dodgy large amounts going to ireland (trying to bail them out of euro trouble).See you fellow ozber's in duty free!
+1 voteBut still heaps cheaper than here!! eg at LAX Virgin termainal (forget number) even though they only have 1 TINY duty free store i noticed 1L spirits; Absolut, Jack, Baileys, etc was about US$25 ea.(a month ago) I'm not a drinker, but that was a bargain when you consider 700ml is more than that here. Can bring back 2.2l
koreainhyuk on 21/05/2012 - 20:20 ¶It says Only "3 tickets left at this price!" right now.
Should make your decisions ASAP. Unfortunately, I would be doing my lovely uni exams while some of you have a lovely holiday at LA…
starski304 on 21/05/2012 - 20:40 ¶Wow that's really cheap, tempted. I just plugged in dates and it came up for three people for $900 return on an A380. Cant get any better than that.
Hmmm…
Trance N Dance on 21/05/2012 - 20:42 ¶So tempted to go to America now…. So… Tempted… Must resist urge!
+1 voteTrance N Dance on 21/05/2012 - 23:50 ¶They've been saying that for years… Not to mention apparently we're still in the first one. So yeah what ever.
Cause some people are in the fortunate position to be able to travel? Sure the dollar's gonna tank it but at 95 US cents per Aussie dollar is still a good rate! Especially considering how cheap things are in America (ever the more reason to have CHEAPER stuff in America because of the financial issues!)
Assuming you have the money to travel, economic condition shouldn't affect your ability to travel unless you're looking at financial hardship. ie Possibility of loosing a job or massive loss of money (that's the only two reasons I can think of actually)
The airfare is cheap, and the rate is still relatively high (seriously people those who are complaining that sub-parity is low get your heads out of your arse and stop being spoilt) cause the day America gets back on it's horse it's gonna drop (until China gets back on its horse and our dollar rises again). Once the markets are back to pre-GFC levels we'll see our dollar around parity but nothing like what we've seen in the past few years of 105-110.

I am having a hard time using this site. Is there a trick with playing around with the dates whereby I can see if I change the outgoing date, the prices changes this much. This crap where you just get a price for a RT ticket sux because you dont know which date will make a difference.
Has anyone tried any other Irish sites to see if they are more workable?

Many thanks OP, been looking for a trip to Canada next year and was getting $2500-3500 for this sort of trip, just bagged a return flight to Calgary for a total of $1350.. muchos gracias!
Haven't read all comments but this was for Feb 2013 so its working further than the OP implied
