I got to OW with a print-out of the JB deal ~ 12.30pm, and only paid ~ $95.I much prefer OW - returning stuff is easy peasy.
They are also hardcore price-matchers.
+3 votesJB deal has free delivery for all those interested, and OW beats it by 1 dollar so basically 1% better hmm why bother.
Ronknee this is not a deal as it is hardly better than what is already their, in addition in the post for JB it has been noted that it can be had at OW.
+42 votesHow is this not a deal? The price of the hard drive has been $129 the past month since it replaced the USB 2.0. That's 24% off. If you want to compare it to JB Hi-Fi, then yes, it's hardly better but hardly better is still better right? In addition, it also makes it convenient for those who live close to their local Officeworks so that they don't go out of their way to find a JB Hi-Fi.
Edit: Not to mention Officeworks also provides free delivery for purchases over $55.
+4 votesLike I said, it's only hardly better if you compare it relatively. The price of the unit sells for much higher normally so if a 24% reduction is not good enough, then I'm not sure what is.
"maybe next time you could give us a deal you thought of yourself."
I'm not quite sure what you mean by that.
Puff Braddy on 31/05/2012 - 18:44 ¶Agreed with Mikinoz. Would be nice to see a good bargain that isn't a reactionary bargain like this one was in reaction to the awesome JB price.
A hardly better bargin is a better bargin than none yes, and this is a great price, but would be good to see one that isn't done only hours after the JB one or just a "we'll match and beat by 5%".Just a general comment and not directed at you, OW employee. Thanks for posting the bargain. As I said in the JB bargain I wish I didn't buy the 3tb version last week for $170 :(

+1 voteAbout a week before the Thailand floods I got this [USB2 version] drive for $84 from OW under a price match with Big W who had it in a catalogue for $88.
Then the floods happened and the price went through the roof.
HN also priced matched Big W $88 [actually offered it for $87] that week.
Hope they keep going down ….buy heaps.

I can't remember where I read it (probably techradar) but prices shouldn't go down until next year or November this year at the best. Something to do with supplier contracts already being signed so that they had to be sold at a certain price, and those contracts only run out at the end of the year.

-2 votesThe click failure probably referred to the USB 2.0 version. Generally, it is a power related issue on the SATA2 to USB part. Hopefully, the USB 3.0 version will be better.
The drive inside is 5400rpm. However, at this price, you cannot really expect a 7200rpm drive.
+9 votesI was gonna say I can't believe some of the comments, but unfortunately frankly I can. I think the salient point being missed here isn't the $1 difference, it's that somebody used their own effort, time & initiative to post a deal that WILL benefit others…gratis!!!
When JB runs out of stock, (let's face it, at this price it's highly likely) all those puffing their chests about whether this is a bargain or not will at least have another option to buy one!
There's a lesson in this for would-be deal posters, however…don't bother doing the right thing & declaring that you simply work for an organisation. Apparently, once you do then you become responsible for the pricing policies of the entire chain!!! :o
-4 votesWhile some of the comments are unnecessarily harsh, the bargain is quite hum drum. Why? Because they would have done it no matter what. If they hadn't, people would have used the price match option en masse and gotten it for $94.05.
Like I said above - nothing wrong with the deal. Good price. Thanks for notifying us. But advertising that you've avoided having to honour the 5% pricematch policy isn't exactly amazing.
+3 votesOfficeworks guarantee is primarily about having the lowest price, not the beating by 5%. That only happens when they don't keep up. Either way, 5% or not, they still have the lowest price, even if it's only by $1. That is in accordance to their LPG policy.
OW prides itself on having the lowest price, not on beating the lowest price by 5%, which should only ever happen occasionally. I think your expectations are unreasonable if you think they did wrong by it just to avoid giving a further 5% off.

Reply to lostn: Very valid point. They find a cheaper price and their price to confirm to the Cheapest price promise. Other retailers have it too but don't usually follow. My recent experience at jbhifi and DSE when I tried to get a Galaxy SII.
I find OW best in attitude with customer seeking a price match.
I think it works well for them. The idea is to tell people their prices are constantly updated to at least match the lowest price, so the consumer goes.. yeah, they're going to be at least as low as the lowest guy if not lower, so I'll just shop there for everything instead of bothering to research other people's prices and checking out the competition. Would save me time if I just go straight to OW.
I really don't care if they undercut by $1 to avoid undercutting by $5. They still won't be beaten and if they are, they will match it. You can't complain when they're already the lowest price.
+1 votecheapskateasian on 31/05/2012 - 20:11 ¶ronnknee can you hook me up with your staff discount? I'll pay cash

Can anyone tell me.. will this work for me? I want to connect it to my wirelss modem which has usb so I can use it as a network storage for connecting from my Mac, PC, and PS3 to play movies, save files etc.
I went to OW. They wouldn't believe me that it was selling for 98. Finally they scanned the product and were a little emabarrased. But once I asked the above question they could not tell me. So I left it and here i am?

A bloke who got one from JB hifi got an ST2000DM001 made in china with cc96 firmware
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71368?page=1#comment-892507edit: HD Tune is reporting the firmware on my drive as CC9D, not sure if accurate

Checked two so far - both have been ST2000DM001 but both were firmware CC9D.
Interesting to note that this firmware version can not be upgraded at this stage even though newer firmware is available….???
http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Barracuda-XT-Barracuda-Barracud...

here's some photos of the box and contents http://imgur.com/a/9c5K3
I got mine from Officeworks QV, Melbourne. There were about 80 on the shelves at 19:30 31-05-2012 for $98.
I haven't opened the enclosure, but it's 2 piece plastic with no visible screws or clips. My box says Made/Assembled in Thailand
A guy from the $99 JB-Hifi post opened his and got a Barracuda ST2000DM001 made in China, which according to google is 7200rpm. He says it can also be used as an internal drive
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/892371?redirect=1edit: I just used HD Tune to run some tests and check some info, it's reporting the drive with the following, not sure if accurate:
Firmware version : CC9D
Standard : ATA8-ACS - SATA III
Rotation speed : 7200 RPM

Benchmark software figures - treat them as the best possible / max speed figures. From physical memory to the drive.
I need to use a PC with SSD in order to really test the actual write speed properly (because my other hard drive is slower - it cannot pump out enough data for this drive).
somethingguy on 01/06/2012 - 21:12 ¶Yep, that's what you get for paying a premium for the earlier USB3 chipsets (or at least in my case). What mobo do you have?

That way they don't have to beat it by 5%
