Well if they do ask for eligibility proof, that should be enough 😝

  • +36

Many stores will complete the price hike today

    • Is digidirect2013 part of this deal? Thanks

    • +52

Anti-consumer practices such as price hikes before sales should be cracked down on by eBay and, more importantly, anti-consumer laws. Beggars belief how such practices are allowed to still carry on to this day.

I understand eBay may offer discounts (such as the subject promo starting tomorrow) at the cost of the supplier which may 'hurt' their GMs but they should then not have to participate if they cannot afford to take part of the promo. From what I understand, they opt in to be included in the promo which brings in significantly more traffic to their respective vendor's/seller's page on eBay which is an benefit to their end.

Price jacking before a 'sale' is just incredibly disgusting (especially when items are stated above RRP).

      • +1

One hundred percent, it completely beats the purpose of the discount which is to pass on savings to the consumer. Instead these online stores get payments directly from Ebay for an item they were selling on Ebay originally anyway!

It only takes a single store willing to be the better person and then all stores will have to follow suit because no-one would buy from anywhere else.

        • +25

It doesn't matter - it's eBay's platform and they police it. They should crack down on this questionably legal behaviour by the sellers.

          • +1

@Grazz989: Poor job by the regulator. If they fined , they’d change their tune quick smart

      • +3

While i agree, ebay has no incentive or requirement to crack down on price jacking. ACCC either needs to target individual stores and make examples out of them, or set up a streamlined reporting and verification system to deal with individual instances of price jacking as reported by prospective buyers.

This kind of shared-discount-promo model between ebay and sellers allows such practices to fly under the radar, and has not been accounted for by ACCC in the way they currently handle things. Similar to how the gig economy has managed to dodge paying employee benefits and all manner of taxes and compliance burdens that normal business have to deal with.

The regulatory system is a joke and needs a massive overhaul to make it more agile in terms of catching dodgy business practices skirting the “spirit of the law”, even if they are not contraveninf the “letter of the law”.

        • +11

It is illegal to do this in Australia.
          https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/kogan-to-pay-350000-fo…

The fines are small compared to the profits.

If you see Jacking, report it to the ACCC, or if you couldn't be bothered, downvote the deal here, so people know they're being ripped off.

          • @RedHab: ⬆ fine - taking a significant % of revenue would also be a great deterrent +1

        • Ebays incentive is to keep their customers so that should be enough reason for them to police it

          • +1

@MrBillions: If that were the case, then their ads ("posts") on here wouldn't keep appearing.

I'm watching an item I plan to purchase. For the record, the RT-AX86U is currently $469 on WirelessOne and Titangear and has been at this level for the past few weeks. Let's see what price it jacks up to tomorrow.

  • +1

    Jack?

    • +5

      Price, Jack Price

    • +2

The patriarch of the Up family. Known for raising the prices the day before or, the cheeky chap, on the day of an impending sale.

      • +1

Not to be mistaken for that other Jack, patriarch of the Off family.

He's a bit of a wan ker, so they say.

    • Indicating that these sales are pointless as the sellers jack up their prices before the sales begin rendering the effective discount negligible or even "negative", meaning more than the price before the sale (i.e. current price).

    • Jack always visits at Halloween.

  • +5

Wow must be good having eBay plus with that extra 2%

    • Yes it is thanks, every bit counts.

    • Most of the products that people are after, the 2% alone would easily pay for a month of ebay+ and leave some change.

      • I get the irates with eBay plus then I go and do the maths and leave it be. It only takes one or two good discounts to cover a year.

  • that price jackkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk is in full swing

    • Some stores are alright with stable pricing, and some stores are using this opportunity to eat up most of the discounts.

  • +4

why does eBay keep allowing Jack and giving themselves a very bad rep?

    • +2

      Why would they care ?

      • +2

From what I understand they pay compensation to the sellers for discounting their products.

        • +2

When they pay 5% compensation for a 20% discount. Jack will jack to make up the difference.

          This is all on eBay.

      • They should care because people won’t buy from them?

    • I mean, compared to charging over 15%, having zero support of any kind, enabling scammers, and having a paid subscription service that doesn't really get you anything… Ignoring price jacking isn't even close to the worst thing eBay does.

  • I wonder if these deals is just ebay keeping their big sellers happy and on the platform. They're basically just paying the sellers when they jack off their prices

    • eBay doesn't cover the whole discount. The seller does.

  • Any chance can get an good price for UDM-PRO?

  • +4

this sale seems like its limited to participating Chinese sellers according to my sources

    • How do you come to that assumption? As in the sellers are based in China, or the sellers based in Australia are Chinese?
As the eBay conditions for this sale doesn't say "you must be Chinese"?!

      • +5

sorry to clarify, sellers based in china or internationally

the link has CBT which stands for cross border trader. that’s eBay’s global program for international sellers.

expect discounts on baseus, xiaomi etc. don’t expect anything like gpu, iphone or airpods though

        • Damnit, I guess FUTU & W1 won't be participants then :/

        • Damn, I have already bought more Xiaomi air purifiers and Baseus air pumps than I need… wait, I don’t have a Xiaomi scooter yet 😉
Wouldn’t it be great if DJI Official store participate too? 😜

    • This.

  • Any good singles day dishwasher deal?

Why you need a dishwasher if you are single?

      • +1

  • +1

    Is Jack single?

  • Remember to get the $300 full discount the optimal purchase are $1500 or $1363 (eBay+). On larger purchases, these discounts sometimes are lower than general 10% ones.

  • +1

I don’t understand the positive votes, why don’t you buy it first then vote it?

Singles Day eBay Sale for last year in case anyone needs their expectations set as to what sellers will be participating.

  • Hope singles love cheap booze… bring on my xmas wishlist!

  • I reckon Aliexpress would have proper deals not eBay

    • +1

Not when you consider how all their prices are US dollar prices converted to your local currency. Their traders must be loving the way every currency has gone down versus the mighty dollar.

      • Don't forget the extra 10% GST at the checkout -_-

  • Hopefully the TP-Link Deco x68 3 pack goes back to $471.90 like last time even though it was much cheaper @ $399 with a free wifi camera over a year ago :(

  • Any good deals worth getting?

  • Search link doesn’t work.

    • +1

P.S. The search link may activate when the deal actually starts.

      • +2

Facepalm, didn’t see the 10am start. Trying to get onto deals during the morning poo was a fail on my part

        • +2

          Talking about shitty deals…LOL

  • Just grabbed something, were only two left and probably not an 'elligable item' anyway.
Had a $15 off coupon that worked well enough (and hopefully some shopback, but prob not track with the other code)
Were only two left so not worth waiting & elligbale items is usually the crap no one wants (and price-jacked).

    • So the item is a few bucks cheaper with PLUSFLASH1, may look into the ebay price protection thing, PTCH22 didn't work anyway.

Edit: price guarantee doesn't cover diff codes. Would have to cancel and reorder so not worth the trouble for $4.90 (latitude price protection easier).

  • Is it just late to start? 10:05am…

    • Seems to be late or never coming…

      • Typical eBay. It happened a few times before. 'Probably take them a few hours to figure out what is wrong…

        • There is a PLUSFLASH1 code which inconspicuously started at the same time (10am)

  • +4

    live now… 29 eligible items 👀

    • +3

I think eBay mixed up April Fools Day with Singles Day…

    • +1

The search link went off line again, I think their programmers really stuffed it up with the list…

  • +2

    29 items only wtf

    • +2

some of the items don't even deliver to Australia hmmmmm… and the codes don't work for them!
