  • Is that you?

  • I don't know much about monitors but looking to buy one & have noticed some other models available for less =

    Acer 27” 2K QHD 1MS 144Hz TN Gaming Monitor KG271 $217 @ Officeworks
    Samsung 27" T37F 1080p IPS 75Hz Freesync $200 Delivered @ Samsung Store

Which one for basic use, no gaming?

The main feature of this Dell monitor would be the USB-C Connection + 65W USB PD, which are primarily used as a charger and secondary monitor for laptops (that supports USB-C).

      • +1 very very handy. This also works with samsung dex or an ipad pro.
Only downside is 27" is pretty big for 1080p, 1440p seems to be the sweet spot for native resolution.

Even better is the dell USB monitors ending in 'DE' that have displayport out. One cable to a multi-monitor hub setup.
        Normally twice the price though…

  • Acer would be a killer deal if it wasn't a TN panel, for the other 2, 27' on 1080 isn't really the standard imo. 27 > 2K
If this was a 2k and $50-100 more it would be a good deal as well.

    • I'm confused because it got over 100 upvotes.

      • Yes, it's a good deal but ideally to be a 'killer deal' it needed to be anything but TN

It's not about the LCD technology, it's about the individual panel models and their implementation by monitor manufacturers.

There's a lot of great TN monitors and panels, and some great VA ones. IPS panels have inherent flaws that make the poor for high contrast scenes (glow), dark rooms (glow), and high refresh rate gaming (difficulty returning to or moving from black/off)

IPS is good for colour consistency and thus productivity or professional colour work, VA is great for entertainment and multimedia subject to screen curvature preferences and the levels of dark smearing.

TN has the fastest response times in any given LCD generation due to how the crystals are aligned and designed, and alongside VA the viewing angle is good enough provided it's a primary monitor or the user will sit front on for active content consumption in its key use.

The only huge caveat with TN is if you view below the intended vertical axis, again a physical consequence of the speedier implementation of the crystal array.

This Acer was good for it's day, but it's a monitor from 2017, and modern IPS has mostly caught up. If it had been the Dell monitor from 2019, that would have been worth a look.

We'll be feasting on FHD 360Hz and 500Hz TN soon, alongside upgraded FHD & QHD 240Hz IPS/VA tech, new QHD 360Hz IPS and VA, and QHD 240Hz OLED. They'll all have great strengths and notable weaknesses, though OLED will definitely be the HDR champion for gaming.

  • is this better or S2721D ?

  • Does this deal require Ebay Plus to work?

Putting the code in at the checkout doesn't work.

    • [eBay Plus]

      Yes

  • 1080p? nah

  • Considering the state of DisplayPort to USB-C adaptors and USB-C chargers, this is a total rip off for what should otherwise a $120 FHD monitor. Skip.

    • Agreed

    • Do USB-C monitors have issues currently? I am looking to get the 2722QC when it comes back in stock, mainly because of the USB-C port

      • This was in reference to the price premium.
