if it is not jelly bean upgradable, not really a deal. $199 is more like it.

  • +1

Why was JB Hi-Fi locked out?

I feel like I have missed something :P

    • No, it was blocked temporarily because people continue to post the Family & Friends shopping night deal.

  • +9

I think at $287 delivered it is still very hard to compete with the other tablet that runs Jelly Bean, has twice the CPU core and probably better built as well.

    • Please don't think this is a troll, but I can't help but feel that if only those other guys had included that one conspicuously absent external storage thingy it would be hands-down the best buy around ATM!

      That's a deal-breaker for me personally, and USB OTG is a no-go! ;)

      • deal-breaker for me personally

Yup. For me, 3 Android phones and 3 Android tablets later, I still have trouble filling out whatever storage that came with those devices, ranging from 2GB to 16GB.

I guess while at home I'm doing streaming from NAS most of the time, and really haven't had a need to keep a few movies on the device while I'm away.

  • +1

resolution is only 1024x600 this is the tablets downfall. It's not bad, but not great either.

    • Yes, that is a bit of an issue as well. Quite a few Gameloft and EA games will not let you install on tablets with that resolution (well Android Play/Market won't let you install them).

      • -4

Not really. Most of the games run on my galaxy tab.

  • The Good Guys at Penrif offered the 16Gb to me for $250, only 2 left a couple days ago

  • Got offered one for 230 at good guys :)

    • +2

      JB HI-Fi always expensive prices.

    • Did you have to haggle for this price? Or were you just offered it. Also posng the receipt would be helpful too

      • I know a person that knows a person :)
However I did haggle with one of the other workers and he offered it for 235. I didn't buy it because I can't justify paying 40 dollars less for a quad core.. was seeing if I could get it under 200 :)

  • +2

JB Hifi, $189 is more like it, this thing is inferior in almost every way to the Google tablet at $249 (US$ 199)

  • +1

Should get it less than $200 otherwise people will buy Nexus 7.

  • +1

It was a good deal until N7 happened.

  • Did they ever release the 3G version of this in Australia?
Had the original Tab 7 for a while - neat thing was it could make calls.
The wife has got the Optus MyTab which does too, although getting a bit old now. I'd like to update it for her.

    • Unless you need to make calls outside the house, VoIP over WiFi is going to be cheaper than any SIM card for making calls.

      • Well she uses it as an "everything" device so she needs phone calls and 3G.

        • OK, fair enough. Galaxy Note or upcoming Note 2?

        • Get the Note 1 once Note 2 is out. should be a great price around then, and still pretty impressive specs.

        • Well I was kinda thinking of this. When I read about the release of the Tab @ some months back, there was supposed to be a 3G version with phone ability. Not sure if it was produced or made it to OZ.
She likes the 7" form factor.

        • Mine likes the 10" one ;)

    • yes the 32gb version. you can find it on jbhifi's website

  • Yawn. This has been the catalogue price for weeks now. I got one for $279 a few days ago at JB.

  • -4

Well if no one else will, I guess it's me. Not a deal, so negged. A much better specced device is available from the Play Store for less (8GB Nexus 7). The only thing this has going for it over that is an SD card slot, and that's not enough to overcome the deficient screen resolution, slower CPU, lagging OS updates, etc.

    • -3

but wait! The Nexus 2 will have MicroSD slot and rear facing camera to bring it up to the spec of other branded units.

Take a bite from Job's Apple did ya Google? Spoonfeed us old features like cut and paste huh? CHEEKY CAPITALISTS!

Anyone who buys a Nexus got scammed IMO.

      • No future Nexus device will have a microSD slot.

        • reason being Google wants people to use their cloud system.

        • +4

that's really sad. I will never be buying a model without microSD. I'm sure that's just their current line and a way to sell more 16Gb units over the 8Gb. No expansion slot = stupid.

Access to a skydrive or cloud storage will NEVER replace local expansion cards. Imagine - on a country drive with no 3G/NextG access to your 16Gb of 'cloud' stored movies. No thanks, I'd rather have a 16Gb microSD installed.

        • I'm not really in to watching more than 16gb of movies on a tiny 7" screen while on a country drive. If I'm on a country drive, it's for the drive and scenery.

Cloud storage will take over local storage eventually (well, depending on how privacy laws and concerns evolve…). 5 years ago you couldn't imagine 16gb on a microSD card, or wifi all over the place, or cellular data that was actually affordable and at a decent speed. Think 5 years from now where we'll be.

Having said that, TODAY there is certainly some usage scenarios that would require more local storage. And for those people that are dead keen on something with an SD card slot….don't buy this. Buy a Tab 7.7 instead for $319 or whatever mobicity had them for. Much better specs overall than a tab 2 7", but still with the SD slot.

        • +1

I'd prefer microSD on my N7 too, but it's hardly a deal-breaker, given the price and other specs. Not everyone needs more than 16GB to be useful. That's plenty for web, mail, games, various apps etc, and if I really want to watch a movie on it, I can stream from my own local server easily enough. So no, I don't feel "scammed" in the slightest.

        • In Google's world, there is never "no 3G access". The last three Nexus phones haven't had microSD and I expect their tablets will follow the same formula from now on. Fortunately, there's other manufacturers so you don't have to buy into Google's vision. Or you can root your Nexus 7 and connect a USB drive.

        • "If I'm on a country drive, it's for the drive and scenery" = no kids bored with scenery in the backseat whilst miles from any wifi access point!

        • The other reason Google actually spoke publicly of is that with 8 GB/16 GB, you get all that for apps, media etc. Not like other devices saying 16 GB but only has 2 GB for apps, and 14 GB internal for media. And with external SD it'll make the user experience even more confusing.

    • in short, this samsung tab is xxxx.

    • Not a deal, so negged.

you've seen it cheaper somewhere else?

      • -1

well, I've seen a better product for cheaper.

but now you made me go and look. a 30-second search of staticice.com.au gave me:

        http://www.becextech.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?product…

        $269 and includes priority delivery.

        • +1

          they charges AU$29.95 for delivery

        • Well I have to confess that OzBargain's voting guideline is really too long. However the principle is:

          • There are better products — no need to vote negative, but argue for it. Like what I did here, as it is still a good deal for SGT2 7.0
          • If there are cheaper deals from a reputable place, then feel free to vote as it's indeed "cheaper elsewhere".
  • i am still looking to buy Samsung Galaxy tab 7.7 3g version. anyone knows good deals around ?
    thanks.
