1 scubacoles on 10/11/2008 - 09:11 ¶

It’s not a Pentium D
It’s a Core based processor, it’s a low level Core2Duo that Intel don’t want to cheapen the Core2 brand with..

As I understand it anyway

Not sure if they’ll actually complete the order tho lol

Thanks dansor!

edit: are they likely to check that i am in fact a business?

Cheers - just ordered 2 and likewise did the upgrade to the 20” - With the family and friends PCs packing up recently it works out cheaper to by new than even try to rebuild the old machines.

Thanks for a great bargain

Is it worth upgrading to the Video Card rather than stick with the onboard plus is the standard OS ok for a business computer?

Gravatar
0 vote
1 pw2002au on 10/11/2008 - 09:42 ¶

Leave the video card an buy from elsewhere (MSY / Shopping Square) - likewise for ram etc. Standard OS is fine if you dont want too many features.

A 19” LCD monitor alone is nearly $200, so essentially you are getting a PC for only $150!

zn7726 on 10/11/2008 - 11:57 ¶

Don’t think onboard has DVI. Saw a back panel view from Dell’s website for 220S.
But you can easily get one by insert a low profile 2400pro which is about $25 from MSY
No digital audio output as well. need to buy audio card.

Just bought one too, upgraded to 20”. Have absolutely no need for another PC but how can you resist an offer like this. Hope it actually comes through :)

One thing to note is that it only has Windows Vista Home Basic and not Home Premium which means you miss out on goodies like Vista Media Centre - a must if you plan to use it as a HTPC. You will need to buy a Home Premium license and a MCE remote too (about $50).

EDIT: Wow, I must have just gotten in with seconds to spare. Will they actually fulfil the order? Hmm…

“MISTAKES: While all efforts are made to check pricing and other errors, inadvertent errors do occur from time to time and Dell reserves the right to decline orders arising from such errors. “

will be on most pages at the bottom of the dell website. so its most likely they will cancel all orders unfortunatly because i ordered one for myself… :( the only way they will be processed is if dell waive it and let the orders go through fingers crossed but i highly doubt it…

was a great deal though… had many people enquire about it

Apparently, Dell run business differently.Sigh

Dell will not be responsible for typographical, pricing or other errors and reserves the right not to process orders based on such errors. Dell reserves the right not to process orders for any other reasonable reason as otherwise determined by Dell.

let’s see what’s going to happen but more and more often I can see that once there is a good deal (thanks to ozbargain), something happens that ruins it. The only thing I feel once such a deal falls through is a deep frustration. Hopefully, this one is real as Dell is a big and respectful company (I’ve bought a desktop and a PDA from them before). Nevertheless I voted for the deal, does not matter if it was a fake or real one by Dell, cause the findings itself is just wonderful.

For me it would mean that I won’t have to worry about ANY Dell sales any more.
Why to bother ? If you see a good deal it will be cancelled, if it is not going to be cancelled it means that it was not a good one.

I still hope they’ll show some respects to the buyers and confirm the submitted deals.
They closed their offer once they realised that can’t probably sell their stuff at the advertised price. But it should be just like in any other store - you can change a price tag any time but it shouldn’t affect people who already purchased goods.

1 Foma2 on 11/11/2008 - 09:02 ¶

speak for yorself mate. i would personally think that Dell is a good company and keep their promises.
probably they would not make any money from the deal (i am quite sure the price is not less than the prime cost of the equipment), but definitely if anyone asks me about what kind of company they are I will provide very positive feedback (and it is what I’ve been doing till now as my previous purchases from them went through with no problems).
if they fail to meet their promises i won’t be happy at all and my advice will be very simple : iguys if you see a good deal from Dell do not worry about it, as later on it’ll be cancelled.
PS Lenovo has 50% off sale now on selected models - it looks quite similar to this deal (percentage wise), and yeah they’re getting pretty close to a prime cost but I really doubt they are going to cancel their deals.

Yay my first post. Hello and (potentially) good news everyone.

It appears Dell may be honouring the transactions that went through.

Had a conversation earlier today with the Dell Small Business Rep that my mate usually deals with. He told me he had received a bucketload of calls from people about this offer and confirmed that the price was a stuff up from Dell (hence the deal was pulled). He said he had just spoken to his manager who came out of a meeting regarding this stuff up and as it currently stands, Dell will be honouring this deal only for those who managed to get an order in.

I also told him how my order timed out while I was trying to put it through and that now I only got a “technical error” screen. I was able to prove this to him as I had a screenshot of each stage of the order process (yes, call me paranoid but I always do this with crazy deals in case it stuffs up). I have managed to convince him to put one through for me thanks to the good business my mate gives him, however as the code R221122AU is no longer on their system, I need an order number from someone who managed to get through so he can clone the specs and ID numbers and put one through for me.

Would anyone be so kind as to PM me their order number so I can put one through as well?

Thanks very muchly in advance.

I was in much the same boat, however, I had configured the system with extras (so over $500), and HAD saved it to my cart, when I came back to it the cart had been emptied. Dell could check this, I’m sure. Ccrap, how do do I contact you? Maybe you can help. Faint hope :)

Website/database normally do not keep record of shopping cart items emptied after a timeout period.
I don’t think there’s any way to check your order.

Hi theguru1

As explained below, old carts get purged, especially when dell pull the item off their system. so even if the cart hasn’t timed out, when you press refresh or revist the cart, if the item cant be located on the system the item entry will be removed and the cart will be empty. Further since that evalue code is no longer on Dell’s system they can’t check it.

Im sorry I can’t give you the name of the rep I am dealing with as he is doing it as a favour for my mate (who is a good client of his). However, feel free to follow the procedure I did below - just remember they did actually ask for proof that I was placing this order before the deal went dead - for which I had screenshots with my details.

Hope that helps.

PS I am still waiting for a kind fellow ozbargainer to assist me with an order number so I can get the dell rep to clone the deal and put it through for me.

I’ve only been given an internet reference number, if that’s any help?

I ordered mine with a 20” monitor btw.

The official Dell T&C of sale say:

“10.5 To the extent permitted by law, any typographical, clerical or other error or omission in sales literature, quotation, price list, acceptance of offer, invoice or other documents or information issued by Dell shall be subject to correction without any liability on the part of Dell.”

Depends what the law says about this sort of situation and if Dell can even legally deny orders based on their stuff ups. If mine doesn’t go through, might see what a call to their customer service reps might do. Got me some nice addons to my current Dell machine for their stuff ups, plus an instant swap of an LCD with dead pixels when they’d otherwise not do it. All I did was start quoting the trade practices act at them.

Can’t hurt to harass them.

If Dell let’s 1 order through, they have to let all the rest go. So just keep checking Ozbargain & we will see. I’m waiting for my confirmation email now. Hope it comes soon. Btw, just wonder how many people actually bought this deal. If Dell accepts this, they will lose a fair amount of money I assume.

addo on 11/11/2008 - 09:01 ¶

I doubt they would “lose” money.

Get the system specs out and find every part or closes to it on staticice than take off 25% to 40% that would their cost. and I think you will end up with a PC that is around 400$ anyways.

addo: Are you factoring in the monitors in your calculation as well? 19-20 inch monitors are still sold for $180-$200.

the thing is that they are not going to LOSE any money, they just won’t make any money as the equipment will be sold at the prime cost. IMHO.

C’mon Dell! It’s been over 24 hours for me now. I guess the fact they haven’t cancelled my order is a good sign.

meh, if they cancel, fair enough. its a typo! mistakes are made… if it was listed for $1, would you expect them to honour the order?
that said, i won’t complain if they follow through.

Hi lxstr

Any chance you would be able to PM me your order number (see my post just a little above yours regarding a dell rep who is willing to put through one last order for me). I would be very grateful :)

Gather no word from Dell still???? It’s been 31 hours since I ordered so I would have thought if it was going to be cancelled it would have been done already. Bit annoying this waiting

1 itsross on 11/11/2008 - 17:31 ¶

Yeah I just wish they would decide one way or the other.

The most annoying part is I’m going through a warranty repair on my dell laptop atm, so every time I get an email off Dell I think its about this order and I get excited!

Me too - still waiting. My order was acknowledged 11:48am 10/11/2008 and nothing since. Keep telling myself that it will get cancelled but I still keep hoping. Mind you I can understand if they do cancel - mistakes do happen. I wonder who the poor b… who’s getting an earful or a “don’t come back on Monday” from the boss?

Not so good if you pay by bank deposit…
