    • This is obviously an abuse order of a system error / typo.
People would think Dell is so stupid if they honour the order.

      • speak for yorself mate. i would personally think that Dell is a good company and keep their promises.
probably they would not make any money from the deal (i am quite sure the price is not less than the prime cost of the equipment), but definitely if anyone asks me about what kind of company they are I will provide very positive feedback (and it is what I've been doing till now as my previous purchases from them went through with no problems).
if they fail to meet their promises i won't be happy at all and my advice will be very simple : iguys if you see a good deal from Dell do not worry about it, as later on it'll be cancelled.
PS Lenovo has 50% off sale now on selected models - it looks quite similar to this deal (percentage wise), and yeah they're getting pretty close to a prime cost but I really doubt they are going to cancel their deals.

  • lol 3000+ click thrus

  • I ordered at about 10:38 this morning and still haven't received the "confirmed" email only got the acknowledgment number email. I just tried to check the order online using the link provided in this email and the order cannot be found, so I am assuming all our orders are currently in a holding pattern whilst they decide what to do with all of us.

    • It is normal to receive confirmation email the next day (which happened to my previous order on Dell website).

  • Yay my first post. Hello and (potentially) good news everyone.

It appears Dell may be honouring the transactions that went through.

Had a conversation earlier today with the Dell Small Business Rep that my mate usually deals with. He told me he had received a bucketload of calls from people about this offer and confirmed that the price was a stuff up from Dell (hence the deal was pulled). He said he had just spoken to his manager who came out of a meeting regarding this stuff up and as it currently stands, Dell will be honouring this deal only for those who managed to get an order in.

I also told him how my order timed out while I was trying to put it through and that now I only got a "technical error" screen. I was able to prove this to him as I had a screenshot of each stage of the order process (yes, call me paranoid but I always do this with crazy deals in case it stuffs up). I have managed to convince him to put one through for me thanks to the good business my mate gives him, however as the code R221122AU is no longer on their system, I need an order number from someone who managed to get through so he can clone the specs and ID numbers and put one through for me.

Would anyone be so kind as to PM me their order number so I can put one through as well?

    Thanks very muchly in advance.

    • I was in much the same boat, however, I had configured the system with extras (so over $500), and HAD saved it to my cart, when I came back to it the cart had been emptied. Dell could check this, I'm sure. Ccrap, how do do I contact you? Maybe you can help. Faint hope :)

      • Website/database normally do not keep record of shopping cart items emptied after a timeout period.
I don't think there's any way to check your order.

      • Hi theguru1

As explained below, old carts get purged, especially when dell pull the item off their system. so even if the cart hasn't timed out, when you press refresh or revist the cart, if the item cant be located on the system the item entry will be removed and the cart will be empty. Further since that evalue code is no longer on Dell's system they can't check it.

Im sorry I can't give you the name of the rep I am dealing with as he is doing it as a favour for my mate (who is a good client of his). However, feel free to follow the procedure I did below - just remember they did actually ask for proof that I was placing this order before the deal went dead - for which I had screenshots with my details.

        Hope that helps.

PS I am still waiting for a kind fellow ozbargainer to assist me with an order number so I can get the dell rep to clone the deal and put it through for me.

        • I've only been given an internet reference number, if that's any help?

I ordered mine with a 20" monitor btw.

  • The official Dell T&C of sale say:

"10.5 To the extent permitted by law, any typographical, clerical or other error or omission in sales literature, quotation, price list, acceptance of offer, invoice or other documents or information issued by Dell shall be subject to correction without any liability on the part of Dell."

Depends what the law says about this sort of situation and if Dell can even legally deny orders based on their stuff ups. If mine doesn't go through, might see what a call to their customer service reps might do. Got me some nice addons to my current Dell machine for their stuff ups, plus an instant swap of an LCD with dead pixels when they'd otherwise not do it. All I did was start quoting the trade practices act at them.

    Can't hurt to harass them.

  • If Dell let's 1 order through, they have to let all the rest go. So just keep checking Ozbargain & we will see. I'm waiting for my confirmation email now. Hope it comes soon. Btw, just wonder how many people actually bought this deal. If Dell accepts this, they will lose a fair amount of money I assume.

    • I doubt they would "lose" money.

Get the system specs out and find every part or closes to it on staticice than take off 25% to 40% that would their cost. and I think you will end up with a PC that is around 400$ anyways.

      • addo: Are you factoring in the monitors in your calculation as well? 19-20 inch monitors are still sold for $180-$200.

    • the thing is that they are not going to LOSE any money, they just won't make any money as the equipment will be sold at the prime cost. IMHO.

  • C'mon Dell! It's been over 24 hours for me now. I guess the fact they haven't cancelled my order is a good sign.

  • meh, if they cancel, fair enough. its a typo! mistakes are made… if it was listed for $1, would you expect them to honour the order?
that said, i won't complain if they follow through.

  • I've ordered one with 20" monitor. Order acknowledgment received, credit card yet to be charged.

    • Hi lxstr

Any chance you would be able to PM me your order number (see my post just a little above yours regarding a dell rep who is willing to put through one last order for me). I would be very grateful :)

      • Dunt know how many you want.
Didn't I send you one after lunch?

  • I've paid by internet transfer - if they cancel they'd better be putting the money back into my account pronto.

  • Gather no word from Dell still???? It's been 31 hours since I ordered so I would have thought if it was going to be cancelled it would have been done already. Bit annoying this waiting

    • Yeah I just wish they would decide one way or the other.

The most annoying part is I'm going through a warranty repair on my dell laptop atm, so every time I get an email off Dell I think its about this order and I get excited!

  • Me too - still waiting. My order was acknowledged 11:48am 10/11/2008 and nothing since. Keep telling myself that it will get cancelled but I still keep hoping. Mind you I can understand if they do cancel - mistakes do happen. I wonder who the poor b… who's getting an earful or a "don't come back on Monday" from the boss?

  • Definately awesome deal…..that I missed out on. Way to go others!

  • According to buckscoop, some1 got his oder confirmed this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Without further information it could just be another buyer confusing the acknowledgement with confirmation :(

  • um why don't u people just call dell and ask about ur orders? lol!

i'll vote when we c the outcome.

REMEMBER CATCH OF THE DAY BIRTHDAY??? hahaha

so many votes but turned out to be total crap :P

  • Because they take your number with a promise to return your call that's why:)

  • I've got a Dell guy coming here in 1/2 an hour to fix my laptop. Should I hold him ransom until Dell approves our orders? =)

  • just got a call from dell… they are canceling orders. at least they called.

    • Oh f!ck that.

I'm not answering the phone today, and am bouncing all emails, if they can't reach me they can't tell me they're cancelling the order lol

      • Can you still hold that Dell guy for ransom? Or is it too late already?

        • Sh!t

  • Missed out. Can anyone confirm their successful order/delivery?

  • This Dell guy isn't leaving my house until I get my order now ;)

    • Good and make sure get everyone orders as well :D

  • here comes the negggggg vote train

    chooo chooooo lol!!!

lol!!! knew dell would screw everyone over :P

  • Yep, a Dell guy's just call me. I can get it for $799 NOT $350.

  • Same, just recieved a call this morning, same deal as megaloman, no luck guys!!!

    • That's it, I'm buying guitar hero world tour with the money then lol

    • sorry guys….just don't kill the messenger :)

      • It's been a fun ride, even if it didn't end up the way we hoped :)

  • I've been transferred 6 farking times and they still can't find my order.
    Wish I'd never paid:(

    • Dell suck like that. For whatever reason, if my previous orders weren't confirmed, they've never been able to find them.

Not so good if you pay by bank deposit…

  • FINALLY got through and I will be getting it in 7 days!

They said they will honour it - will believe it when I see it.

    • Maybe there is hope. What'd you say to get them to do that?

      • You've got it confirmed at the $350 price?

    • oh oh, whats your order number? I'm gonna throw that at them when they call me.

      • If they let one go…

They should let all of us go

    • Hi Vanessa,

Any change you could supply the reference number or the sales person you spoke to?
Dell said mine has also been declined but if I can supply details of anybody receiving this computer at that price he will than accept mine.

So what's the deal than with Dell? Are they trying to see how many people just sit back and take this " Oh we are Sorry it was a error"
Come on it lasted on the site for over 8 hours.

  • friend in my office just got a call from dell saying the will not honour the price he paid on credit card so strange vanessa you have been told they will send you the machine

  • Don't tell me that if you paid by credit card, they NOT honor the deal. But if you paid by bank transfer, they will let you through. That will be fun^^

  • I'm sure if they honour one, they'd honour all… If it was a mistake, theoretically all orders would be scrapped.

I wouldn't expect a blunder like that from Dell

  • I paid by bank transfer - it ended up costing $403 because I upgraded the monitor to 20" and the hard drive to 320GB.

Like I said, I'll believe it when I see it.

They actually said the deal was the proper price but had actually expired a little while ago and shouldn't have been put up at all.

I said people on forums are saying they've been offered the same deal but for $799 and they said no, it will remain at this price, no change.

    ho hum, we'll see….

    • doubt it, unless the rep u spoke to was a total nut job lol!

  • if some one gets a confirmed email please post a screenshot I suggest no one cancels until we see how this turns out

  • At least with a CC they'll just not process the payment. I've paid them by internet transfer- WHEN they cancel it I bet it takes not working days, but working light years to be returned to me.

  • I haven't heard from dell yet. Paid by visa. Can someone give me the link to buckscoop where the guy has had his order OK'd. I can't find the deal on buckscoop today for some reason. Thanks.

No word on my order yet (1 for me, 1 for wife, 1 for work).

But a friend had his "confirmed" this morning. Anyone else with a confirmation email?

      !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shobbs later claim it was an Acknowledgement not confirmation!!!

  • Someone's selling one of these systems on eBay (item no, 270300484159).

    • Love the mark-up and the description on it ;)

    • Norton Internet Security 2008 1 year 3 User Licence

      Hmm

  • Maybe they just got the same 'confirmation' email as the rest of us (acknowledgement….)

  • Has anyone tried checking on their 'Order Status'. I fill in the 3 sections (internet no, postcode etc) but it says it can't be found.

    • Same here. As far as I've found from previous Dell orders, that's what happens until after they confirm your order and your payment. My last laptop couldn't be seen in there until about 2 weeks after I placed the order!

    • Didn't you get a order number on the phone??
You can track it after 48h payment confirmation…

  • Some1 on Buckscoop

    alazarus

Yup, just got called and was told I have to cancel the order or follow through with the order at 729 (5% discount due to inconvenience incurred). She said they are not selling the system for $350 to anyone and that the websites states they have the right to decline orders based on errors.

  • I just called them again and it's a NO GO.

They took my bank details to start the refund process.

it will not be sold to anyone at that price.

Wonder if the ebay dude will pull his auction??

(They've added there will be a postage delay….)

    • The guy has pulled his auction. Maybe he has lost his new job and will require this desktop after all. lol

  • Everyone lets wait till it is sent then lets hit them with the order no. that what 1. they cant take hers. next they cant tell us no.

  • from buckscoop

"Had a conversation earlier today with the Dell Small Business Rep that my mate usually deals with. He told me he had received a bucketload of calls from people about this offer and confirmed that the price was a stuff up from Dell (hence the deal was pulled). Still hope!!

    • Already posted here by ccrap. See the previous page of comments.

  • This lady was pretty adamant they will not be selling it at that price.

  • i got a call not 5mins ago from them telling me that it was a stuff up and theyasked if i wanted to buy it for $799

    • As far as I'm concerned, that is a bait and switch and is illegal.
They can refuse to sell because it is a mistake, but that should be the end of the call.

  • Thanks for posting the buckscoop link Blinda.

  • Exactly scubacoles. Whwn they offered it for $799 I said you've got to be kidding me right?

    That is Sofa King cheeky.

  • Got the call from dell, order refused.

  • I'm sorry but its been 48 hours since orders were taken.

Surely they could have refused/accepted the deal within the 24 hours they claim it takes from the initial acknowledgement.

And to add further insult, they are going to offer the same product for an extra $450??? And only offer a 5% discount for the 'inconvenience' (when there was a promotion still offering a 5% discount for systems under $1200)

Whilst I can understand why they can't honour the price, a bit of customer service wouldnt go astray.

    • Agree. Nothing wrong in declining the deal. After all it's a mistake anyway. But they could have sent email to everyone within 24 hours and stated that they cannot honor the deal. What took them so long?

It's a bit wrong when u placed and paid for your order then 2 days later realized that u just never get it, just an apology.

  • Just received my call………………..

Got my order cancelled, as they asking for $799 with 5% discount……..

    I hate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Got the call, but I firmly refused the option given (either cancel or buy @ $799 - 5%). She then requested that her superior will call me back.

As the survivor (and proud owner of $8.80 250gb drive from Dell back in 2005), the law is actually on our side and I will keep on fighting till I get my $350 machine :p

    Dell Terms and Conditions

2.1 No Contract shall come into existence until the Customer's order has been accepted by Dell and such acceptance has been received by the customer. The contract shall deemed to be concluded at the time and place where such acceptance is received by the Customer. The Customer warrants that it is buying for its own internal use only and not for re-sale purposes.

    This confirmation email proves acceptance.

at this point they can quote 10.6.

10.6 To the extent permitted by law, any typographical, clerical or other error or omission in sales literature, quotation, price list, acceptance of offer, invoice or other documents or information issued by Dell shall be subject to correction without any liability on the part of Dell.

That started off with 'to the extent by law' Which bring us to the fair trade act.

    FAIR TRADING ACT 1987 - SECT 38
Limited offers and failing to supply as demanded

    (2) A trader who offers goods for sale by retail must not refuse or fail, on demand of a quantity or number of the goods and tender of the appropriate price, to supply the goods in the quantity or number demanded.
    Maximum penalty: $2 500.

    • damn wish i had read this 2 mins earlier i just cancelled my order when they called.

      • You can claim it wasn't yo answered da fone

    • Seems they got a whole team working on this.
The rep told me, they 100% sure no one will get his deal

    • All terms clearly set out and stipulated. wow, can't see how they'll go pass without getting into trouble with the ACCC.
Also a tick for detriments incurred due to reliance on misrepresentation under Section 52 Trade Practices Act - misleading & deceptive conducts by corporations.

  • I told them I'm putting it out on the many chatboards I frequent what richard-heads they are and to never deal with them if you want anything resembling customer service.

    Sure they're worried:-D

if the whole company goes under you'll know it's from my vicious slander.

  • Good on you elcheapo - I hope you fight the lousy dogs and win:)

  • Hey Scotty I'm following this deal as it develops. But when I click at the new comments in Live Action it takes me to the first page of this deal, and when I then click to page 2 I don't see any "new" tags. It's a little bit annoying. Hopefully you understand what I'm saying, I realised it's not a very good description.

  • Sorry Elcheapo

That section looks suspiciously to me like its something different - if an item is for sale, the number of them I want to buy cannot be rescricted

as in "5 per customer only"

rather than having to sell an item if a mistake is made on the pricing

    • Sounds like the intention is for both, 1. they cannot refuse to supply once offered, and 2. regarding no limit on quantities.
Bottom line, their own rules cannot contravene the Fair Trading Act! i didnt get the call yet, ill try and fight this one.

  • Ok girls and boys,

Why don’t we start another thread and only write who ordered one and who is getting or have dot one and for whom they have changed and then rejected. And then take them to ACCC.

Scooty can you start another thread.

    • I already made one but it was closed, Scotty decided it would be better to have the discussion in the post.

As I was posting this I got a call from Dell, was given two options, pay $799 or cancel the order - I cancelled the order. Poor bloke on the other end was nervous as anything, sounded like he had been copping a fair bit of flak from angry OzBargainers :)

I asked him to pass on to his superiors that the situation should have been handled as soon as it was determined there was an issue, i.e. the day it happened. A 50+ hour gap between 'purchase' and contacting me does not reflect well on Dell.

Nothing against Dell, they didn't charge my CC, no dramas here. Honest mistake, could happen to anyone. Would have been nice to get it cheap but I've got more important things to fuss over!

  • This mob have repeatedly listed items at prices that they will not supply at.
Best of luck in fighting them.
Rest assured there will be other "errors" of this nature, it sure increases traffic to their site.
Until they get stung and made to supply on one of these offers they will continue to have these little "accidents".
I don't even visit their site any more.. there are reputable dealers out there, use them instead.

    • The problem here being that none of us have had our credit cards actually charged.

    • But the NSW Office of Fair Trading said today that Dell had a legal obligation to provide hard drives to credit card customers they had charged for the incorrectly priced hard drives.

      • yeh, what's your point? no one was charged via credit card.

  • It's odd that I was one of the first to order this, and I still am waiting for my call.
