Was searching for a good deal on an 18 inch laptop with solid build quality and specs and came across this. Use code FORT7 for 7 percent off.. Price is cheaper when going for 32GB RAM instead of 16GB for some reason.

Pretty solid deal considering specs and screen size. Apparently the RX 7900M GPU performs between the 4080 and 4090.

Well, why on earth we spend $3k5 for a 18'' laptop. Would be much better spending on a pc?

You could get both a decent PC and laptop for $3.5k
But if you want a large but still portable powerhouse then something like this is what you're after

      • +2

I needed something powerful and portable as i do a lot of networking and support around the house for a data centre company, want to be around family when i need to work at times. Plus play some cod/cs at night time when everyones asleep :D

    • I just bought at Grays for 364,22 a precision 7720. 17,3". Lappy. :)

I guess you dont realise laptops and PCs have very different use cases. If someone who is a gamer travels a lot for work for example, and stays in hotel rooms, should they cart a Monitor, PC case, keyboard, mouse, etc around with them? Or would it make more sense to buy a gaming laptop instead? Just because something doesnt make sense for you doesnt mean everyone has the same needs.
Why do trucks exist? isnt a toyota yaris much cheaper to run?

  • Been holding out for the Lenovo 7i w/ the 4080 on a good CB deal but this seems pretty neat with only the size being a bit much. Idk if I should just bite the bullet and get this? With my luck, a 20% CB might just pop up as soon as I get it.

    • I’m pretty sure this AMD setup will run much cooler than the Intel chips. And maybe longer battery life.

      • -2

Not really, 7945hx has more higher temperatur than 13900hx, AMD can't solve the heat accumulation problem. The battery life is much shorter than Intel, and can't even last more than two hours.

Sorry but your comments are completely incorrect. Unfortunately Intel 13th gen CPU's have a much higher TDP than AMD Dragon range which effects battery life.

You only have to look at the Notebookcheck review which states this:

          https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Ryzen-9-7945HX-Analysis-Ze…

"AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX Analysis - Zen4 Dragon Range is faster and more efficient than Intel Raptor Lake-HX"

"The two Ryzen 9 7945HX chips running in Turbo mode are about 35-45 % more efficient than the current Raptor Lake i9-13950HX, and the Ryzen 9 running at 120/90 Watts increases the gap to 60-70 percent compared to Intel. "

          • @shellshocked: I hold a Zephyrus Duo 16, obviously you guys haven't really experienced the drawbacks of this cpu. the standby power consumption of the 7945hx is very high at 30w, and when you are idle it still maintains a temperature of 85 degrees Celsius's to keep the fan running, the noise problem cannot solved at all on the 7945hx computer. Next is the off-charge performance, Intel's HX processors have been optimised considerably in the 13th generation and can last up to 6 hours in pc mark10 tests, but the 7945hx only lasts 2 hours, which is totally incomparable. Its benefits can only be seen in tests such as cinebench, but the everyday experience of the average person is crucial. Unless you treat it entirely as a workstation and not a laptop.

          • @shellshocked: And I replied with "And maybe longer battery life.", not denying that 7945HX have better multi-core performance than 13900HX.

Dude. At this rate a lenovo legion can go for 2k. 18inch is desktop territory. Got mine with 32gb,1tb ssd and 165hz screen at $2k. It's 16 inch. When you travel it's easier to get the right bags and cases for them.

    • Not everyone needa a laptop to travel, thisnisngood for around the home, can use it as a desktop also so its an up for me. Not for everyone.

    • You don't get a 4080-4090 range Legion for 2k. You mentioned a lot of things but not the CPU and GPU of your 2k laptop.

  • Did anyone pick this up, comes in around $2800 with CR and Dell Amex offer?

    • how to get it around $2800?

      • 5% affiliate5 coupon, 10% Cashrewards and if you have the Amex offer that's 10% back

        • Damn i paid 3458 lol
