Nintendo Wii U Premium (Black) Console - $419.00 (w/ Free Pick-up in Monterey, NSW)

670

$10 less than RRP, we're offering the Wii U Black Premium console at $419. It's the cheapest for an authorised games dealer in Oz with free pick-up option in our office located in the St. George region of Sydney, NSW. There may be a midnight launch dependent on how interested people are in coming to our office for it.

For those that choose delivery, please note that we don't actually know the weight/size of the console box, but do know that if we overcharge on delivery fees, these are refunded as soon as the item is shipped. Also, any games you pick up with the console are not charged delivery.

I'm Adrian, and I run the store, so please let me know if you have any questions.

For a $10 saving off RRP it might be worth waiting to see what trade in deals/bundles come out in the following months.

    • +3

We also do bundles with games on a case-by-case basis. For example, we had worked with one of our customers to work out a deal for Wii U + New Super Mario Bros. U + Zombi U for $564. A big saving (I think from memory it was about $20-40 off RRP combined).

Let me know if you have any specific titles in mind and I'd be happy to work with you! :)

      Thanks!

      • +11

I think this post needs more U's.

        • +3

Haha indeed! All the U's! :P

        • +9

Any price cheaper is a good thing. Also, calculations are as followed

          RRP for those items:

          Wii U = $429
          Zombi U = $89.95
          NSMBU = $79.95
          =598.90

          Our pricing (in that bundle):

          Wii U = $419
          Zombi U = $79
          NSMBU = $66
          =564.00

~8% off RRP or $34.90 off list price.

unless you're desperate to get one on launch :)

      • +1

Considering stock of the Wii U is on a rocky path at the moment w/ Nintendo's manufacturing center, there might be low to no-stock at many retailers after launch. I think we've got a wonderful deal here plus the opportunity of bundles.

        • Wii U is in high demand/low stock?

how do u prove that lol

        • +2

I'm not saying it's in high demand, but there were issues with Nintendo and Foxconn (http://www.macworld.com.au/news/foxconn-finds-underage-worke…). There was also talk of a fire that the factory which has caused issues with manufacturing/stock.

        • +1

          Foxconn :s
i am actually ashamed my iphone was made there

        • +2

          Foxconn :s
i am actually ashamed my iphone was made there

Link would not be pleased, either.

        • Nintendo like to reduce the amount of hardware available to create demand $$$

        • Nintendo have been known for doing this before so it's definitely a possibility, who knows?

        • foxconn also make(assemble) acer, Amazon, apple, cisco, dell, hp, intel, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, samsung, sony, Toshiba and vizio products.

        • +1

          @ the discombobul…

          Link would be… Majorally displeased

  • +5

What do you mean WITH FREE PICK-UP? Does anyone else charge for pick up these days?

    • +17

Believe it or not, I've been charged for picking-up before. Just wanted to make the distinction clear.

      • +8

Actually mWave charge for pick up if you don't order online and bring in the order number.
They charge from memory $6 for handling fees if you just walk in without any ordering before hand.

        • +5

There you go! Yeah, we don't do that. :)

    • +2

'Free pick up' gives more information than 'pick up available' too

    • +1

Some stores won't even offer pickup. There are costs associated with pick-up especially if you don't have an active storefront.

    • Marking up on delivery/pickup is a great way to avoid tax. That's why the foreign dodgy companies all do it. Don't buy it if you know they are doing that it's putting someone local like you out of a job.

      • That's an interesting point, never heard that before but it does make sense. We don't make any money on our delivery fees, and (as with the Wii U) if the delivery fee is less than what we charge, we do refund the difference.

Does anyone know if a new Mario Kart game will be available on launch?

    • +1

Nothing announced for the launch window. A lot of us are anticipating some sort of announcement of that nature during next year's E3.

      • +8

The Wii U launch day line up for Australia has already been 100% announced and the launch window titles are known as well.

        http://mynintendonews.com/2012/10/21/wii-u-launches-down-und…

Mario Kart is not on launch nor launch window. Pikmin 3 is only just launch window (it will be released in March).

        • +2

Yep, there ya go! Thanks for that. :)

  • +1

Hi Adrian, why not offer special prices for the existing PS3 / XBOX360 consoles?I mean no one knows what EBGames and JB Hifi are going to offer for the Wii U but can you beat them on the PS3/XBOX360 prices?

    • +2

I should be able to, for sure. Let me know what you had in mind! Happy to hear suggestions and give quotes. :)

      • 120GB PS3/ 4GB Xbox 360 for under $200 or 3DS for under $150 :)

        • +8

Trade price for the 4GB Xbox 360 is $284, so there's no way that's possible.
3DS' at costs are $215+ depending on colour, etc. so that's not possible either.
The new model PS3s are all that's available now - the older ones can't even be ordered in. The two models are 12GB and 500GB. The 12GB costs shops ~$280 and the 500GB is even more expensive at ~$380.

Sorry we can't do any deals on those items, but at least you can see what the industry is like in terms of pricing on new consoles.

I'll also mention these are cost prices, they don't have mark-ups or delivery added on to the price yet (we only make ~$4-5 on an item, but some stores mark up by $15+)

        • +1

:( i was expecting a clearance on the 120GB models.

Thanks for letting us know all the trade prices!! No other stores tell us!! :)

        • +5

I do like to be transparent about what we sell. I think, as a gamer myself, it's important to know what I'm getting and whether it's a good deal or not. :)

        • +4

          https://www.jbhifionline.com.au/game/ps3/ps3-playstation-3-n…

$259.00, if its that much cheaper you should buy from them and on-sell :p

        • +2

Haha, there are specific deals for bringing the stock in and marketing it at a low price. However we only became a business last week and didn't make it in on those price events. :(

  • +13

+1 for a local and honest rep. Industry is very competitive with low margins so any effort to discount is welcomed.

Your big retailers will often sell consoles as loss leaders just to attract business. I remember a Video Ezy worker telling me years ago they would buy stock from Big-W on launch ($12.84~ new release DVDs) and resell because it was much cheaper than buying through their own channels.

    • +6

This is true. Unfortunately we're not in a position to be able to take losses, but we aim to provide some of the best deals we can with what we have to work with and hopefully word of mouth will spread from that. It's not an ideal situation but we're doing the best we can.

  • +1

would have gotten from you but unfortunately I live in Melbourne =/

    • +1

We do offer delivery, it does even itself out if you get bundles or games with it. If not, sorry we couldn't help you out, do let me know if I can assist in any other way.

  • +1

Yeh I think Target had the 12gb for $249 and I wouldnt be surprised if Harveys went $199 before christmas….its crazy what some retailers do to consoles.

    • +1

There are some pretty good deals out there and I do recommend picking up if you think they're good value.

  • +11

I have no intention of buying this console (until some Zelda game tempts me down the track) but I'm a sucker for a good rep and you deserve a positive vote. Keep up the good work!

    • +3

You and I both when it comes to a Zelda game! Can't wait! :)

Thanks for the kind words, it really is appreciated.

    • +3

yep agree with you :) I can't wait until the next zelda game and i gave a positive vote for the awesome rep

      • +1

Much appreciated! I wonder what the next batch of Wii U games will be, I guess we'll have to wait and find out.

    Hi Adrian

    • +3

      Hi there, how are you?

      • I'm good :)

I was browsing your website, and wanted to know more about you guys but can't seem to find an "About Us" page. Would you be able direct me to it? Thanks!

        • +1

http://skillpointgames.com/index.php?id_cms=4&controller=cms is our About Us page. There's not much on it so if you have any specific questions please feel free to ask.

All other pages about our policies can be found here http://skillpointgames.com/index.php?controller=sitemap under the Pages heading.

Trying to figure out how to make this stuff more visible but the website back-end is kind of annoying to work with.

        • Ahh, I was just going to check when you guys were established, but I found the answer in your previous comments above^ :-)

        • +1

No problem, yep we're a new business. I've had experience in all facets of the games industry before (including retail).

    • +1

Vooks is a good acquaintance of mine professionally (I'm a videogame journo by trade and am on Twitter at @LevelUpAdrian), been bugging him to put my prices on there. ;)

You'll notice our prices are actually a lot cheaper than those in that guide for most (if not all) titles.

      • +1

edit: $2 shipping to WA? I'm interested now.

        • +2

$2 shipping on games (obviously consoles and bigger items do cost more) anywhere in Aus. :)

        • Massive +1s for the reasonable shipping costs on games. Padded envelope + a stamp is all thats required. :D Never had a parcel get lost in 8+ years of trading…but of course you can offer a 'registered' option for the paranoids out there.

        • PayPal is my insurance ;)

        • We've got registered, express, and an expensive order option (which is pretty useless, but it means we tell our supplier the order is urgent and we need it the next day max).

For the most part, if you order your pre-order on time with our schedule (which can be found here: http://skillpointgames.com/index.php?id_cms=8&controller=cms), that option is useless as you'll usually be guaranteed to get your game before/near release date.

That said, we like to offer options, so they're there for everyone should they need it.

        • scytherbladez: That is true! :)

  • +2

I have no intention of buying this console really, but you seem cool so have a +1.

    • Thanks! :)

  • Theres my chrissy present sorted!

    • It's sure to be a great one, then!

  • +3

Impressed at this rep. Very personalised, informative and lively responses.

    • Thanks for the kind words. :)

  • +2

Login and add a big plus to the deal. Great Rep

Would like to suggest an OZBargain Rep of the year nomination for those honest hardworking fellows

    • Thanks a lot! :)

  • +1

I'd take this up if only I could be bothered getting up off my ass and selling my existing Wii and 3DS stuff… then I'd have enough money for it.

But +1 just for the good vibes and encouraging this level of customer service! I highly look forward to doing business with you in the future.

    • Thank you so much, it's truly appreciated. :)

  • +2

Im looking at getting the basic 8 gb model wii U, are you doing anything for that?

  • +1

I'll buy a Wii U at full price if they release a F-Zero game!

  • Not much of a discount… I would wait.

A lot of bundles will be coming out and there will definitely be better bundles in the weeks ahead.

    • We do bundles on a case-by-case basis.

It's probable (in fact I'd say it's a given) that stores - especially department stores - will do big discounts on Wii U (if there's stock left), but I think our prices are some of the best on games and software now and into the future. I think we can stay competitive on software for sure.

    • I think discounts will be fewer and further between this time around, since Nintendo have stated that they're selling the U at a loss this time around unlike previous consoles.

      • +1

Well that doesn't really matter necessarily. They're making their loss and retailers are buying it at a set price. Whether retailers choose to make a loss on that price is another thing. But the way it's looking right now, there'll be little to no stock sitting around for those deals to happen.

  • -6

    A 2.3% saving is not a bargain.

    • I beg to differ, for a new console $419 is as cheap as most retailers will be willing to go when it comes to an unreleased console, especially when they know it'll sell and sell out at that when being sold at RRP $429.

Even dept. stores who usually sell their consoles at a loss aren't selling it at less than RRP yet.

    • +1

Just having stock is sometimes worth it, you won't believe how crazy parents will get trying to find a store that actually has a new console in stock. They get so desperate they will drive 50km+ just to get it.

      • Haha, this is true! :P

  • Did anybody read these lines on the page:

"If you were running Windows 8, your PC will restart automatically and Windows 8 Pro With Media Center will be on it.
If you were running Windows 8 Pro, your PC will restart automatically and Windows Media Center will be available for use."

Am I wrong to think this allows you install Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro for free until January 31?
    What an awesome deal!!!

Can somebody with a standard version of Windows 8 try this? It looks too good to be true and probably is but hey it's worth a shot.

    • +1

      go home voolish, you're drunk!
      (wrong thread)

      • :P

  • Just wanted to update everyone: Wii U Delivery is just $13.50. It's much, MUCH cheaper than we had anticipated.
