  • The colour of it is so dark it's almost black. It's a lot darker than the image in the link makes it out to be.
It's closer to being black than brown put it that way.
    Still looks good though!

    • That's good to hear about the colour!

  • Anyone running these speaker on a yamaha rxv373 or vsx 522/521 can comment on sound and performance?

As I'm comtemplating on yamaha rxv-373 or pioneer vsx522.

    • +1

Im in the same situation, can anyone tell me if they are a good pairing?

      • i got the pioneer vsx522, as well a vsx-826, both very good setups, wont have any problem running these speakers, lots of power on them

feature wise, very decent for the price too, mind you the yamaha's are excellent too and if you can get for the same price, probably the better brand for equiv features.

Also consider the below, can get refurbished items from pioneer direct or a few clearance new ones for good prices below with a full 12 month warranty. For the longer term a 7.1 is better simply for the enhanced surround sound, as more and more movies support that(not essential by any means though).

      • I'm running them on a yamaha rxv373 - works flawlessly.

  • +1

I forgot to use my 10% off voucher last time. By asking them to pricematch this lower price I should get more than 10% back. Girl win!

  • +3

Bought these last week from Amazon, connected to Yamaha HTR-6065 receiver that I got on special from JB. Excellent little setup for music/movies. Lacks a little depth on the low freq end (no sub, still looking for a decent one on special), but very happy with it.

  • First time poster, long time lurker. Just bought these speakers.

    Whathifi review is here: http://www.whathifi.com/review/jamo-s426-hcs3
They are usually pretty good. Precis of their review: good for HT so long as you watch the bass, and a little muddled with music but not bad. More importantly, that was based on a GBP350 review price …

For those of you who have them, how easy is it to remove the speakers? I would suggest that some performance benefits would be had by stuffing extra acoustic wadding inside the cabinet (dampens the boominess) or maybe even glueing in a crossbrace or two. It's what I'll be doing with mine …

    • Speakers cabinet is sealed like almost every cabinet floor speakers. The speakers itself and be removed by unscrewing the screws around the speaker from the front again like all speakers box.

      • Yep, that means you can stuff wadding / bracing in through the speaker hole.

  • +1

Pickup the speakers, first dislike is the colour as expected.
Brown speakers just scream the 80s and antiquated. More desirable for someone whose into mahogany or jarrah. Will test it on the weekend on my old yamaha rxv-1070.

    • Look forward to hearing your results, make sure you're set up with 6 OHM not 8.

      • +1

My amp can run at 8ohms to 6ohms down to 4ohms without needing to adjust (there isn't adjustment I guess it automatcally detects). Will try my best to compare them against my higher end Bose 901 series 6 and two pairs JBL speakers for your perspective. Usually it's hard to interpret sound into words. The ears just know what sounds good although a very subjective topic.

  • Add to my previous post, the speaker consist two 6 inch (i think) and 1 tweeter. They are quite good at high to mid range, you need a sub for deep bass though.

  • Bought these for a room that doesn't have a tv in it yet. Probably have no need for one in the next three years but couldn't say no to these beautiful looking speakers at this price, and seein as speaker tech doesnt change over the years I jumped on board

Now seeing as I'm in no rush I'm just going to wait for a good deal for the amp and subs. From previous posts I know the amp needs to be able to do 6 ohms and I read here the sub should be atleast 150W. As a complete hifi newb is there any other specifications I need to match up with these speakers? Hoping to get deals on the sub for around 200 and the amp for around 300-400. Let's see what boxing day has in store for us all. No doubt all the new speaker owners who need subs and amps will find the best deals and share with fellow ozbargainers.

    • You could do a lot worse than the Sony SDR-HD820 amp on Amazon.uk.
Eleven left in stock as I write this.

About ~360 AUD delivered to Australia (around 222 pounds).
This really should be listed here on this site but I'm too lazy to do it.

Grab one while you can :)

      • Sorry, I made a typo:
Sony STR-DH820 is the correct model.
        DH, not HD :)

  • +1

The speakers is decent for the price paid. Couple with a good sub for full range. Im no expert but from many years with interest in hifi stereo imo the high tone is abit dull and abit harsh, mid is adequately punchy nothing amazing . First listen and before purchase i already knew its not a replacement to my two JBL sets (it's going in my bedroom). Don't expect too much, there's reason why high end speakers cost a lot and weigh a tonne. This jamo speakers is rather light weigh, the sound it produces seems hollow & lack stage and formity with bit of tube effect but surprisingly has good built quality and finish for the price paid despite the the weigh & material used (I'm guessing chip wood). If you're into karaoke these bass reflex speakers are great for it, mids and highs in bass reflex form pushes vocal brilliantly and creates virtualised reverberation stage sound when tune correctly. For karaoke application you'll need to use in conjunction with a karaoke mixer and or with a mic vocal enhancement or effect (I am talking strictly karaoke not studio where reverberations and echo is needed). These is where bass reflex speakers shine). compare with my bose 901 series 6 use only for karaoke it stand up rather well. It's a neat package also ideal for bedrooms or get started into home cinema without selling your arms and legs. It's modern compact exterior will suit any contemporary themes. For under $275 aud it's the best bangs for bucks, mines going into the bedroom for movies and music. You'll notice a significant difference if coming from a satellite speakers. On a personal note, I hate brown colour speakers but this wenge colour is nothing like what I'd picture it to be. It's colour is a combination of dark chocolate brown together with light brown (almost like a brunette hair colour) to form wood pattern. Anyone whose still conmtemplating, I'd say buy it, for the price and sound you can't go wrong and I certainly have no regrets (except had wish is was black, that's just my personal taste) hope that help everyone whom haven't made the purchase. Merry Xmas all :)

excuse my ignorance, but isn't it too early to pass judgment on this as i heard new speakers need some kind of break in period before they reach their optimal performance. Nevertheless, thanks for the sharing.

    • Quite possibly, but if they sound good now and will sound better when broken in….

    • Comment direct @ Dragon7: This could be true and would be a minuscule improvement if not any but IMO it won't change the hollow sound due to the low cost engineering which went into the design of the enclosure and cheaper material used. I suspect there is no suppression of resonance (internal dampling) or very little is apply and possibly because of the light weigh wood also impacts the sound.

  • If you need an amp for these speakers, get the Yamaha RXV373B from JB-HiFi for $286: http://www.jbhifi.com.au/jb-hi-fi-home-audio/receiver/yamaha…

    • My research show this amp can't be set to 6ohms, only the Canadia and USA model has this functionality.

      • i think it doesn't matter much as most modern AV receivers should be able to drive 6ohm speakers, the impedance is only a nominal figure and will vary depending on various factors such as frequency

      • I can understand the confusion out there but it operates at 6ohms.

        5-channel 500W = 100W x 5 (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 0.9 % THD)
        675W = 135W x 5 (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 10 % THD, JEITA)

        Online source: http://content.webcollage.net/apps/cs/mini-site/jbhi-fi-au/m…

Also says this in the manual.

      • i have bought the amp… i couldnt' fine chaning impedence ..however i feel its at default at 6…

  • Attempted deliver 15 mins ago, while I was sleeping. That was too fast shipping! I thought it was a normal parcel and didn't get up to sign for it: (

Mine arrived this morning. How efficient is that?

    • Placed my order on 19th December at 11:17PM, less than 4.5 day turnaround

      • Ordered Wed 19th as well, 8pm
        Arrived this morning at 8.30am
Was sitting in Melbourne since Saturday too, waiting for Monday delivery!

        Love Amazon!

        Thanks OP!

  • Just received mine today - unbelievable turnaround time. Beautiful looking speakers, hoping too pick up a good deal boxig day on an amp like the Yamaha from jb which brought about this jamo deal.

  • Price gone up to $133.47

    • just noticed that… should have ordered last week… grrr…

  • Mine arrived in record time too, was pretty amazed.

Also picked up the HTR3065B that was at Harvey Norman for $198 (http://www.harveynorman.com.au/yamaha-htr3065b-5-1-channel-a… now back up to $498) which will make a nice cheap combo for $450. Just need to find a cheap subwoofer to complement the pack.

I'll be buying some acoustic wadding and stuffing it in the boxes to improve the SQ.

    • Hey mate,

Do you mind telling everyone how the speakers are performing with that amp bearing in mind the amp supposably doesn't support 6 ohms.

      Thanks!

      • I think it does support 6OHM but there was a discrepency between the specs published across two naming conventions that Yamaha use for this product.

At least that's what was mentioned before.

I am using this exact combo and it sounds fine to me, i replaced an older Yamaha model receiver and satellite pack.

  • Any one have any trouble getting this sent to aus ??

  • Just like to necro this thread and say I grabbed this set off Amazon for 30bucks more but was still a great deal :) Ordered on the 31st and arrived today in Queensland…fantastic delivery.

In comparison I got the online HN deal for the Yamaha HTR3065B on the 23rd Dec and still have not received it….amazing I can order a full set of speakers and have it delivered from the States in 4 days and not have a receiver from HN in nearly 2 weeks…

  • Just wanted to say very happy with the purchased speakers above from Amazon for my parents. They shipped on the 24th after ordering on 20th ($50 extra).

Also sound quality compared to the previous Sony set they had. Mind you compared to my usher s-520's bookshelf pair these weren't able to provide as crisp sound especially on the higher notes. But still very nice, especially being a 5 speaker set(my usher bookshelves costed more than this delivered lol).

  • selling mine if anyone in perth is interested, pm me.
have matching amp too if you need amp as well.

Leave your mobile number on PM show I can contact you back.
