  • Cheers for the heads up op

  • hrm i have ~$163 due 4 Dec…be lucky to see that :(

    • Ouch!!!

      Hotel booking?

    • +2

  • -5

I wonder when TopCashback and ShopBack will follow?

    • +4

      Hopefully never?

      • He certainly did not know the ending of StartHere(PricePal), Get Cheddar?!

        • +3

          Get cheddar was hilarious.

CommBank thinks their innovation lab where they spend millions on UI designers and user research is so groundbreaking but they essentially just did cash rewards for genz and it failed

  • +2

    This remains to be seen

    • All transactions that are pending as at Thursday, 11 September 2025 will be approved and then you will be able to withdraw your cashback.*

I have int flights and booking.com accommodation that is usually approved months after the travel completion, which takes me into the end of the year/early next year. It's quite a bit as CR was running a 10% booking.com deal.

    • -1

heh,.. ones like that will prob be cancelled

    • +4

      They're owned by ANZ I don't think they'll run away…

    • as do I and am talking of a few hundred $$

    • Same here, I have $600 worth of 'Pending' booking.com accommodation bookings up to stays in April 2026.
I doubt they would honour this? If they do, great…

    • +1

From the email wording presumably ANZ has decided to write off the whole venture and will fork out for all pending cashbacks, even those that could be cancelled later such as hotel bookings.

Not guaranteed to happen of course, but I wouldn't be concerned about it at this point in time.

  • Woohoo extra $2 in bank account. Thanks mucho, sire.

  • +8

    They couldn’t manage without TA….

  • +12

The end of an era. Whilst I am sad, a part of me kind of welcomes the end of these cashback sites…

They encouraged me to spend much more than I usually would and they’d be more of a hassle chasing up, which happened nearly every single time.

    • +15

They encouraged me to spend much more than I usually would

I am sorry you lack financial discipline.

      • +4

        Thanks for apologising.

        • +1

You will grow from this experience (probably).

Just don't go near the KFC deals, that's not the sort of growth I am referring to.

    • +1

Honestly same, the FOMO tactics and fragile tracking links makes getting a good deal such a hassle.

    • +4

part of me kind of welcomes the end of these cashback sites
They encouraged me to spend much more than I usually would

Right, because you cannot control yourself you welcome the end of these sites.. take responsibility for your actions lol

      • Thanks for ending my quote right before I provide yet another reason why I welcome the end of this site.

        • and they’d be more of a hassle chasing up, which happened nearly every single time.

The following up with CR is neither here nor there, and sounds like user error to be happening so frequently. Perhaps your urges to buy things were so strong, and they 'encouraged' you so much, that you forgot to turn the adblocker off lol

Anyway, I hope you can take control back of your spending. Don't let TopCashBack be the next one to make you their victim ;)

  • -5

You’d have thought that an email would have gone out to their members, or some kind of banner on the app to give people some sort of warning. But all a bit silent :(

    • +1

I would expect that in the next 48 hours.

    • +5

      I just received one.

      • +1

Yeah I got one just before 2pm.

    • +2

Received an email an hour ago. I imagine the queue of emails to go out would be quite large. Also the need to avoid sending too many quickly and being marked as spam

  • Weird its being closed, was it loosing them a ton of money? Why not offload it, it must be worth something with 2M plus users?

    • +1

Large user base doesn't mean profitable

    • +3

      Usually the problem is:

      1. Not actually knowing the trouble ANZ bought themselves
      2. Once they realise the amount of cash required to work it
      3. ANZ senior management wouldn't have the expertise to run a cashback site or want to run a small site (example CBA and that site that cashback site they started)
      4. Considered non core when any kind of cost cutting exercise comes along to boost productivity
      5. Unwillingness to embrace it. At one point you were going to get more cashback if you had an ANZ card but that died out

Would have been better if ANZ let Cashreward do what it was doing and just put marketing spend toward it for special promotions as engagement / customer benefits, that way they could turn off the tap at any time. Now it is just a pain to wind down.

  • +4

Was good while it lasted. RIP

  • +8

My lifetime CR balance, including one which hasn't tracked, will just tick over $2500. Been a good run.

    • I'm at just over $1100, cashed out and moved to TopCashBack when TA moved! ;)

      • +3

TCB hasn't been around as long, but on the redder side of things, I'm at 5 digits πŸ™ˆ

      • Who is TA everyone keeps referring to?

        • +5

Ozbargain user tightarse. He's was a rep for cashrewards in the past and more recently became a rep for TopCashBack. He gets ozbargain good deals and we love a good deal here.

    • Yep - it has been a very good run ($1,127.91 all up for me)

    • +1

      $1,753 for me.

Although $500 of it was not really 'free'.

I choose a more expensive merchant but factored in the cashback. Still worked out in my favour.

    • +1

Mines basically the same ~$2500… I haven't used them much in recent times though, other than for the odd bonuses but even that has been soured by them burying "ex GST" in the fine print and the likes, or the bonuses not registering and then I have to chase them up, lol…

This news doesn't really shock me…

    • $5k for me

    • Mine's $26. Cost of a meal. Better than nothing.

    • +1

Just checked and my lifetime is $1,234.50

      A very satisfying number indeed!

      • Is there time to get 6c more cashback?

    • $8400 for me

    • $1,535.57 here.

  • -1

Have 2k+ from Trip.com offer and the iconic offer. Feel not good and duno whether I can finally got my money since it will pend so long. Now, SB is the only way to get shopback, I worried they don't need to offer any good deal now to keep competitive. Missed those days CR and SB competed with each other during holidays like BF.

    • there's topcashback

      • -1

Never try it before. Is there any good rate for the iconic or trip.com like 20%. Also Patagonia was just listed on Cashrewrds. Hope to see it will show on SB or Topcashback.

        • +2

Topcashback in my experience always has the best rates of the 3. In fact i barely used CR any more except for BWS deals when they popped up.

  • +6

The best part of Cashrewards shutting down is now I won't get their email spam…

  • +4

    Crying!

  • mmm. I requested a withdrawl on the 1/9 midday and it still hasn't hit my bank account. It is sitting as 'pending' under transaction history.

  • +1

This is so annoying. I just went to click on their 100% cashback for TEMU today and then the entire app broke :(

  • +13

Its been a good ride - about $3.5k lifetime that I have gotten back.
I don't understand how a business that simply splits referral commission could fail - especially given how widely it is known and used.
It also basically holds tons of money for people until they draw it down. Again, how does that fail?

    • +15

CR turned corporate with the ANZ acquisition and just bloated.

      • +1

Not worth the ROI and effort.

Plus ANZ got a new CEO who has been slashing everything, including jobs.

        • +6

CEO must be looking for an Alan Joyce size bonus.

    • +4

How all startups that 'change the world' evolve. They become corporatised and add crazy overheads (usually a few ex consulting losers who never ran a business as a CEO/Director) then the pressure to profit more and more and more, then bye bye.

  • +1

$8 remaining with them and can't get sms to withdraw.. boo urns..

    • +1

I got the SMS code but the webpage still gave a "An unexpected error occurred while sending the verification SMS" error.

Tried a few times - three different SMS codes from three different numbers: AUTHMSG, TWVerify & Cashrewards.

    • I just did a withdrawal ok… My first try the SMS was delayed, the second try is came through ok and everything worked…

    • I was saying boo urns.

  • +5

My lifetime is at $5,066.91. I was a pretty early signup, and took advantage of many of the offers. Will be sad to see it go. I haven't ever signed up to another service, might look in to that now.

    • Jeez Geez, That's hell of money la. Good job HCB

    • I was on pretty early too: $3,478.56

      • Also early, and just a hair over 3k.

Stopped really using CR once the DM/FCL 20% deals stopped.

Had s golden run stocking the bar for a few years there

    • My lifetime : $5,905.87 going back to 2020 it seems when I did my first cashback transaction

but quite a few of those were camera/lens purchases that combined with the Sony offers and Amex meant some super cheap gear

  • +1

This is pretty disappointing. Now SB and top cashback are the only ones and SB is significantly larger afaik, at least in Australia.

  • +1

Wondering what will happen with those Aliexpress activated pending bonus but not showing in rewards list.

    • is ANZ the owners of CR?

  • -1

Is this why my gas provider change didn't track last week wtfff

  • -8

😭 only shopback left (πŸ–•πŸΎ tcb)

  • +1

And so it begins : 504 Gateway Time-out

  • Can't even load the page. Too Busy. Must be a big withdrawal going on by everyone.

  • I have $300 pending from a large accommodation booking. Damn.

  • +1

Will miss their $5 off $20 spend deals though. It was straight up 25% off for stuffs I was buying anyway.

  • +2

RIP. Although not too surprising - Shopback seems to have eaten the market, although there are doubts about how profitable it is.

Will be interesting to see if TCB can survive and keep burning money as they have been.

    • +2

Shopback seemed to have good deals, but also the communication and tracking was so much better.

Cashrewards was a hope for the best scenario. Shopback at least has some semblance of traceability.

  • If only they had offered a Cashrewards Pro Premium Plus model - that would've kept the business afloat πŸ˜ͺ

    /s

  • +3

I hope SB and TCB continue to offer the 25% /30% cashback on BWS/Liquorland. Got a some good whisky deals out of them.

    • gezza90 whisky bottles per year…

      • That's the KPI per yr

  • I take the wording to mean approvals due now-ish will be declined or approved (as normal) and that everything else that's pending will be left and approved within the next 3 days.

I hope they are just not going to auto-decline any future transactions.

  • +1

Had a good run - 1500 lifetime. Hoping this puts my existing pending ExpressVPN CR to approved.

Loved it for my aliexpress purchases.

    • Silver lining - Finally will decide to use TopCashback or Shopback - can probably take up those 100%VPN offers again.

  • -3

omg ozb is being spammed by newbies about the closure.

  • +1

Best to take a screenshot of all pending transactions, to ensure that they don't just disappear.

  • +3

    This F-ing sucks.

More and more Australian Businesses being closed down almost monthly at this rate (And soon less if this trend continues). First we lost Catch back in April > Reject shop being replaced with some canadian store and now Cashrewards is going…

    We can't have anything anymore…

    • Looking at the articles, they sold Reject because it was actually doing well. They were about to open 7 new stores before the takeover. So this is more about corporate greed and the fact they are letting successful Australian businesses be taken over by foreign players.

Catch and I assume Cashrewards are different and were not proifitable/sustainable after their buyouts and folded.

Sad about Cashrewards though, it was way better than Shopback and less competition means worse rates.

  • +1

I noticed my AliExpress purchase yesterday didn't track, and my purchases from a week or two ago were payable already which I thought was odd. I had another payout from a week ago that hasn't come through… I use TopCashback most of the time now anyway as the rates were usually better for where I shop so now I just hope my payouts come through.

  • +2

How about those showing "Pending approval" under "For You" offers? I found they all gone and nothing showing tracking …

    • +1

I'm wondering the same.. hopefully they also get approved. I have $3 sitting there. It's not much but it's something! And it's better than the 16c I otherwise have pending πŸ˜‚

  • -1

Rip….such a bummer! Scored the email and wondered whether it was a scam or not! Unfortunately, not to be. So true about all the newbies. Couldn't even get onto Cashrewards or Ozbargain…..Bad Gateway, Timed out, etc…….. Gonna miss it :-(

  • +1

May as well take this time to confess that years ago a cashback was given to me even after I refunded the order. Can sleep easy now knowing they ain't coming for me in my sleep
