  • Does officeworks pricematch Catch of the Day?

  • The laptop cable is permanently attached, so probably not so good for people intending to use it for phones and tablets.

    90Wh @ 5V = 18000mAh

Where did you get this information from? These don't have a battery.

    • Hah I thought there was something a bit off with squeezing 18000mAh into a brick only slightly bigger than an iPhone!

    • so my bad - wasn't thinking clearly at 2am and thought it was a power bank - deleted :(

    • From the spec list, the correct information is:

Tech specs:14-17VDC at 5.20A Max, 17-21VDC at 4.72A Max, USB port 5VDC at 1.0A Max.

Which is fairly typical for a standard powerpoint USB charger, and double the charging rate of the typical PC USB port (500mA)

  • Is there a cable from usb to laptop - i.e. make a portable usb charger into a portable laptop charger. Also, can anyone find something to compare the price to?

  • So, who uses multiple portable computers at the same time…?

    Next we'll (hopefully, I say) similar boxes & [w/ longer]cable-assemblies, etc.
that use DC voltages at levels produced by your Solar Voltaic panels. skipping -two- conversions:

    • from panel's DC to mains-level 240 V AC -and-
    • from 240 V AC back to (near panel's) DC.

To clarify for people, because I found the title & description very confusing.

This is a Universal laptop power supply which has 2x USB ports for charging devices such as Phone or Tablet.

This is NOT a portable power pack, battery pack or emergency charger for USB devices. To use it, it has to be plugged into a wall power point.

Most Universal laptop power supplies include a USB plug for USB devices. Aldi for example, have one this week for $29.

The Kensignton deal has 3 advantages over any other:
    1) it's a brand name
    2) it has 2 USB ports (although 1 requires an adapter)
    3) it is very small

People should also be aware that this is a 90w adapter. If you have a moderately to high end laptop this may not be sufficent eg my i7 3120qm + HD7670 Toshiba uses a 120w adapter.

Judging on its design, I would say its primary target is frequent travelers, due to its small nature and USB charging abilities.

i did and i'm the op

This is NOT a portable power pack, battery pack or emergency charger for USB devices. To use it, it has to be plugged into a wall power point.

+1 seems so - i thought this was a good deal if a power pack/bank, which it unfortunately isn't :(

  • This is absurd.

If you plug a laptop into its adaptor, it usually allows draw on the USB ports, which means you're free to charge things at the standard USB rate.

Now the block is capable of charging USB devices at the rate of 1A (1000mA), which is all fine and dandy, but that doesn't necessarily mean your devices will draw that much current as you aren't technically plugging it into AC? (Someone can verify this.)

At best this is an okay deal for a universal laptop charger for someone who carries around and works with multiple laptops.

    • whut?

you aren't technically plugging it into AC?

if you don't plug it in, it won't charge anything…

    • Also

If you plug a laptop into its adaptor, it usually allows draw on the USB ports, which means you're free to charge things at the standard USB rate.

The advantage of this adapter is that if you can charge your USB devices even when the laptop is switched OFF. Not all laptops support 'USB sleep charging'.

    • Now the block is capable of charging USB devices at the rate of 1A (1000mA)

      actually 2.1A apparently :)

      • actually 2.1A apparently :)

        Nope

Two built-in USB/Micro-USB power ports provide total 2.1A

charging USB devices at the rate 1A per port

        • 2.1A is shared between the ports so you can use 1 at 2.1A or 2 at 1A each :)

        • 2.1A is shared between the ports so you can use 1 at 2.1A or 2 at 1A each :)

          Nope

USB port 5VDC at 1.0A Max

          Source the Kensington spec page

        • that same page also states (as per deal description):

          Output power: 100W continuous, 90W main output. %V 2.1Amps USB output x 2

Two built-in USB power ports offer 2.1 Amp capability for charging tablets and phones

and reviews confirm it's 2.1A shared between the 2 usb ports

  • +1

I think I'm going to purchase this to free up some power point ports in the bedroom and hopefully neaten it up a bit..(and that means I can just keep my original AC adapter in the carry case)..

    • +1 for having 2 AC adapters. It's so good not having to disconnect and reconnect the one now sitting permanently on the desk.

  • I was really considering buying one. Then I saw the official dell charger for my laptop is $22 delivered direct from dell. WIN!

    • Yeah, even at $49 this seems little expensive, the RRP of $149 is just stupid. But it does provide some useful features, so I'm not going to neg it. I was fortunate that my previous laptops have used identical ac adapters :)
