  • I did see this earlier and i like how they have snippets from bf4 plastered on the screen but i wonder at what frame rates would this lappy manage ?

  • AMD HD 8870M 2GB and especially Windows 8 is a deal breaker.

    $1.3k is hardly a bargain

  • benchmarks for 8870m : http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-8870M.86798.0.htm…
its got decent frame rates for bf3, not sure how it'll do with most of the newer games tho :
    low:4 9.9 51.5 ~ 51 fps
    med.: 40 41.4 ~ 41 fps
    high:36.2 40.8 ~ 39 fps
    ultra: 18.8 19.9 ~ 19 fps

  • Is this new or refurb?

  • i cant justify paying over a grand for a laptop without an SSD. But I have been looking for a 17.3" laptop thats not half a metre thick and doesn't weigh half a tonne, so this is heading in the right direction at least..

  • " I think it is a steal at $1300!"

Respectfully, but why? Unless you want something pretty like a macbook I believe you can pick up lappies at this price in Oz that outspec this one quite comfortably.

  • The thing weights just as much as a brick at a tad under 3kg….and COTD clearly says it's from the USA with no mention of a charger being supplied for Australian plug and voltage (unless it's a multivolt charger at 110v - 240v)…But then, they would still need to supply an Aussie power cord…

No deal…unless u were desperate to upgrade immediately…oh wait, it would take around a week (quickest) to send it to u…

  • Anyone else find the "Up to 8.5 hour battery life" a bit of a stretch?

I could be wrong as I haven't dug through any reviews but I'd be very surprised if this thing can push 4 hrs in typical use. 8.5 hrs, come on guys…

EDIT: Well according to this review, it won't achieve 8.5 hrs but at a lower than typically used 40% brightness they did get 7hr:45m out of it so I stand corrected. Really surprised such a big lappy can last so long, especially given the fact that most users would leave it plugged in as a desktop replacement anyway but that's pretty cool none the less!

  • I don't know computers too much.

In Feb, I just got one: Acer, 17",3rd generation i7 6530, Gforce 640M 2G, 16GB Ram,1TB hard disk+ 240G SSD,windows 8, bag for 17" laptop. It was $1300 too. If you want speedy, you have to put SSD in. Cheers.

  • not having to deal with cotd … priceless!

    enjoy your cotd warranty

  • I never understood why the Chronos is geared to be as expensive as the Series 9 laptops. This is supposed to be their premium range - but why?

  • Series 7 is designed or gamers. HD8870m is ok, not a bad price for 17".
I recently got the Asus n56vz with GT650m for same price, but it was 15". The HD8870 is a better card.
    A shame it didn't come with HD7970m
