Don't buy from Catch of the Day!!!!!! Don't support James Packer!!!

    taken from wikipedia

In late May 2011 Packer made a reported A$80 million investment in daily deals sites Scoopon and Catch of the Day

oh god, if i didnt already hate Con Of The Day enough yet………

+1 simply for bringing that to my attention

    • +2

      Love or hate COTD

I bought a Pioneer car stereo from this deal

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70700

After 10 months I realized this was not meant for Australian market
AM band scans in steps of 10 instead of 9.

Emailed COTD for refund . Return postage was paid, and money was in my account in a week.

      • +17

You spent all that money to listen to AM? Should have saved your time and stuck with the stock one :/

    • Remember gofish.com.au? Anything online that little Jimmy Pecker touches turns to crud…

  • Is Mobicity and Mobiciti different? (lol i thought they were same…)

    • +3

Yes. I think MobiCity deal with imported phones while MobileCiti sell Australian stock.

      • yep and i find that MobiCity is hardly ever cheaper than Mobileciti :) Mobicity do have good service though but they are all grey imports…

      • +5

They are actually two different companies — MobileCiti is in Sydney doing Australian stock phones, and MobiCity in Brisbane doing mostly grey imports.

        • Would you believe that all this time I thought they were one website!

  • anyone can comment on

    520 vs 620 vs 720 ? thanks

still miss the 8X deal weeks ago

Hey Rep, can you do an ozbargain deal on a note 2? Would rather buy from you than kogan.

    • +2

Hi, I can't really help you because I'm not a rep but I can point you in the right direction.

If you really bring yourself to purchase from Kogan, buy from:

UniqueMobliles - $509 delivered. Please remember this is stock sourced from Hong Kong so warranty issues may arise if UniqueMobiles do not honor their provided 12 month warranty.

MobileCiti - $699 delivered. Considerably dearer but you will have no trouble if you run into issues as this is Australian stock carrying a Samsung Australia warranty.

    • Store credit hmmmm

    • +1

Perhaps this deserves it's own post?

    • do you know how long the store credit is valid for?

  • +6

Yeah waiting for Note 2 deal….Rep keeps saying they working on it….Work harder rep!

    • Yes, I'm in the market also for the Note 2. +1 for you!

    • Agreed, same here. Im sick and tired of seeing all these Xperia Z deals while the Note 2 deals are no where to be found. I thought they were working on it :(

Still waiting for a Note 2 here, but have to say at this rate I might end up with an Xperia Z

  • Any memory card deals coming up? Looking to purchase some for phones and cameras. Just hanging out for some good deals.

    • I hope the shipments for the HTC One are as scheduled!

      • Yeah, would be good if the Rep provided an update on the thread. Going to ring them today.

      • HTC one will be start dispatch friday, should get early next week!

They won't issue you a tax invoice, so if you are travelling overseas, can't get the tax back from custom.

    • That's incorrect if you are referring to Mobileciti

    • We offer Tax invoice with any sales.

  • Didn't know COTD is owned by James Packer, no wonder I could never find anything good there.

    • COTD is owned by James Packer

Well. This is not exactly true. This blog post was referenced by Wikipedia so I'm using it as the source:

Packer’s Consolidated Press Holdings and Tiger Global Management teamed up with Andrew Bassat, co-founder of Seek, and Glenn Poswell of Gannet Capital. The group have purchased 40 percent of the deals business that is owned by brothers Gabby and Hezi Leibovich. The total investment is said to be $80m.

So, James Packer's investment holding company teamed up with other capital firms invested $80 million to acquire 40% of the Catch group, which CatchOfTheDay is one of the sites. The investment I presume would be used for expansion, as the group now also runs other online retailing sites such as GroceryRun, EatNow, MumGo, etc.

      • So it's partially owned by Packer, I don't think I've ever purchased anything from them. Never heard of GroceryRun, EatNow, MumGo.

  • Thanks rep. Would loooooove an 820 deal, though. Currently you are quite a lot bit more expensive than the grey importers on that one.

  • hey rep could you please do a pre order deal on the s4 that's launching on Saturday, the lowest price is $770 for 16gb right now, Australian stock, can you beat it? please let us know asap.

    • where did you get 770 aus stock from?

  • Hey rep when will the HTC 8S be back in stock?

    • Sorry, we can't get same deal again.

  • Any chance the HTC 8S in black/white will go on special? Would snap it up if it was at the price of the green one!

  • Hi - potentially silly question alert!

Will my Virgin Mobile SIM work in an Optus-locked phone or, despite them being the same company, will it not?

    Thank you!

    • I don't think so.

    • Some model work. eg. iPhone

  • +1

    Hi rep,
you've said you can;t get the htc 8x deal again and I completely understand.

If the issue is that you can only get that price for a high enough quantity, please let us know. We could do a preorder system to see if their is enough demand; which I imagine there is.

    Thanks

    • Hi Demarco

Thanks for your suggestion, I will notice you if any opportunity available, Thanks!

  • +1 just for the Harvey Norman statement

  • Good deal with free Shipping. Just place an order for a mobile and some memory cards

    • Thanks!

      • arrived thanks for posting.

  • Sorry for newbie question. I want to know what is "Australian stock", does it matter where it came from as long as seller offers warranty?

  • Is it possible to get a new deal for Nokia Lumia 520? I missed out on this one :(
Will buy 1 for sure if there is another deal.
    Thanks.
