  • Just to let people know that the adjustable frother on this thing is poor. If you set it to minimum froth it is the virtually the same as maximum i.e usually too much. I have tried with 5 different types of milks. Also there are some issues with temperature as it set to European standards apparently so a latte is luke-warm instead of hot as that is what it is based on. There are those that recommend filling your cup with hot water first or using a microwave to heat it up but that defeats the purpose of convenience. A double latte will be 250mL using 2 pods. If you like flat whites then this doesn't do them either. The cappuccino is fine but the volumes are small. It is programmable quite easily for more volume but it just gets too dilute so you are better off using 2 pods. It does long blacks and espresso obviously at 30mL which takes about 10 seconds in extraction time.

    • Mine doesn't froth at all on anything but the maximum setting. Called them and they said there is an issue with Australian milk at the moment!

      • That's actually true. We were using Coles milk when we first got nespresso last year, then it stopped frothing. Switched to Paul after, then it stopped frothing a few weeks ago. Now we use dairy farmer's and it's been good.

        • So the min/max settings actually work now with Dairy Farmer's milk?

    • All you do is press the coffee button once which heats up the pipes of the machine, and also your cup. Then use the clean function on the milk to put hot water through the pipes. Discard the water in your cup and make a coffee as usual - just the right temp ;)

  • the machine is adjustable, to your own settings, if you want less/more milk/coffee you can change the settings.I have this machine and I am very happy with it,lukeloop either has abad machine or has not learnt how to use it properly, as for having poor froth that is a falicy also.If you regularly clean the frothing unit you will get froth to the thickness you like.

  • Ok then can you please tell me how to adjust the temperature. Also how does adjusting the coffee volume not dilute it down. Thanks. I am also saying there is too much froth.

  • Good price compared to the local competitors. Some of the reviews I've read on the Lattissima series have said what lukeloop said (ie luke-warm, small volumes etc). I was looking at the Premium version but the reviews turned me off spending that sort of money on it.

  • Hey Lukeloop, I don't know of a automatic or POD machine that's purposely designed to give you differing levels of froth. You obviously like your coffee strong. The only way to do this is to buy a traditional machine with a group handle such as one with a dual boiler. These POD machines are designed for European standards and not yours. I have an automatic Saeco machine and heat up my cup with hot water to keep my coffee hot for longer. It's no big deal or effort to do that.

  • This machine has an adjustable froth dial on it, however I haven't managed to get a significant difference between minimum and maximum froth. It is still fine I just scoop out 3 or 4 teaspoons sometimes. Other reviewers have similar issues. Still a decent machine I was pointing out its finer issues.

    • One of the staff in Nespresso store told me the frothing problem has been fixed for the new BLACK model (Lattissima+ EN520B) the other day.

      • Would be nice if they did a recall on the other latissima plus, I will contact them and ask if the milk unit can be fixed then. Thanks.

  • I got the Pixie U when it was on sale in green, and they're fantastic. One pod plus milk makes one cappuccino every morning and I couldn't rate it more highly. I'm not sure how the Lattissima is though.

  • Have had this machine (from Amazon IT) for almost a year now. Gets at least daily use. Great consistent coffee. Learn to use the machine fully to make the coffee to your taste (i.e. control the duration of the coffee shot and the amount of milk).

Agree with others re froth but not sure it really it's a big deal? Certainly creates plenty of froth. I just mix it through. I'd be more concerned if it didn't make enough.

Regarding lukewarm - not the case for the Latissima 520 machines.

I think the fact that I got one of these (using this special) as a present for someone sums it up.

  • Nespresso rep told me that it is basically an inherent fault in the design that there is hardly any difference between minimum and maximum froth regardless of milk type used. The Latissima + 520 machine still makes lukewarm lattes unless you preheat your cup with hot water. Machine is based on European preferences and prefer their coffees not too hot. Yes you can scoop some out or stir it in or re-program it to output less milk.

    • All I can say is that coffee from our machine is not lukewarm. It is in fact too hot to drink (or drink fast rather).

This is the same as 3 other 520 machines I've tried (1 x friend, 1 x in laws and 1 x in store).

      • Is that for the lattes ? The espresso, long black and cappuccino are fine in terms of temperature.
