    why?

      • biggest mirorless lens choice (Olympus & Panasonic lenses)
      • standard hot-shoe
      • excellent direct controls of many parameters (no need to menu-dive to adjust common parameters; very few mirorless cameras offer the controls favoured by an advanced enthusiast)
      • two user-assignable Function buttons on-camera and two user-assignable soft-Function buttons on LCD
      • magnesium alloy body
      • compatible with older (better) Four Thirds Olympus lenses with $100 Panasonic adaptor
      • customisable Q-menu
      • in-body pixel mapping, unlike my Nikon DSLR which needs to be sent back-to-base for bad pixel remapping
      • an integrated flash that can be finger-tiltable for bounce-flash off the ceiling
      • Level Gauge
      • Made In Japan
      • run-out pricing

This is a pretty good deal considering that micro 4/3 has the largest lens range of any ilc.

nice price. But Sony NEX-F3 is better option for smiler price.

If you like having easy access to controls and lots of buttons/dials, the GX1 is a better option. I'd argue that you'd have a better shooting experience with it. That said, I prefer to buy locally (preferably at a store that allows pick up) and the F3 already comes with a lens so it's a tough call. If they were both from Australia though, GX1 no contest.

      Just my AUD 0.02.

Nex f3 got better color depth/dynamic range, night shooting(higher iso), Bigger APS-C sensor like dslr(nikon D7000).

        • NEX has no standard hot-shoe and baby-like menu-diving controls.

Otherwise, this is a useful product for the NEX:

        • And the Panasonic GF6 has no standard hot-shoe and baby-like menu-diving controls.

Comparing the enthusiast GX1 to the entry level F3 is comparing apples to oranges.

  • do all m34 lenses work on all m34 cameras without adapters?

    • yes, its a standard.

    • Panasonic and olympus share the same lenses. Im not sure if their mounts are compatible with others

    • But be careful to how the image stablizers work for different lense / body combinations.

Best price I've seen on the DMC-GX1 body.
    Good deal.

For those that don't know already (and who want a viewfinder and tilty LCD), the (micro four thirds) Panasonic DMC-G3 is going for run-out prices too, but not quite this cheap. I prefer the DMC-G3 (shooting without viewfinder in the sun on the GX1 is painful and the optional viewfinder costs a bomb).

GX1 has one or two more function keys though, but I don't find it as comfortable to hold as the DMC-G3. Otherwise specs are very (very) similar. I have both. The DMC-G3 also has a metal front body, but not the rear. So if you like (more) metal, the GX1 will give you what you want (front and back is metal). Body of the DMC-GX1 is Made In Japan (versus China for the DMC-G3). The integrated viewfinder on the DMC-G3 is a god-send if you're taking it out though; it's by far my preferred camera between the two.

    USD$293.86 delivered (courier)

Adding the 14-42 kit lens is a mere $99.

  • Ive been looking at prices and this is definitely the cheapest I've seen it to date. The new gf6 will have the same sensor and who knows maybe a update for it will come soon so maybe prices are dropping a bit?
