Levant by Noirot Panel Heaters $199 to $289. Castors Also Available. 7 Year Replacement Warranty

31

Just saw this on Catch of the Day. We own a number of these heaters and have found them to be good. They are supposed to be low on energy consumption and good for asthmatics and allergy sufferers since they don't "fan" allergens around the room. The 7 year warranty is good. We have found the larger units to be the best for our bigger rooms and open plan areas. The castors are plastic, so a little fragile but as ours aren't wall mounted, the castors were essential for our needs. I also found the company helpful when I needed to ask questions about the timer on one of ours.

These are quality heaters, I own two of them myself, however, they are not "low on energy consumption". They can't produce more energy out of the electricity going in than other panel heaters. If you need something with better efficiency, you need a heat pump (aka. air con), which can suck heat from the outside into your house.

    • A heat pump is not standard reverse cycle A/C is it??

      • It is. Use of terms depends on where you live but here we refer to them as heat pumps since they're here towards more heating power than cooling whereas in Qld it's more cooling power and seems to be referred to as aircon instead. The point is that yes they're more efficient than a radiant panel.

  • Thank you for explaining. Its always hard to know the reality behind the energy consumption labels (which is why I qualified the statement with "supposed to be"). We just can't tell without our energy bill being itemised by appliance, which is unrealistic. My air con is better, but it was thousands of dollars to install. For some time, we simply could not afford that cost, so heaters had to suffice. I have rarely seen these models come on special, other than during store closures, so they seemed a good buy. Sometimes these units are more suitable for earlier in the cool season, but not for the middle of Winter in a cold climate (I'm in Sydney so probably not the best item for Melbourne or further inland). I don't understand air conditioning technology, so can't comprehend the idea of heat from outside (in Winter, when its very cold) being sucked inside during Winter, but that's ok, your comment still stands that an air conditioner is better for someone needing more warmth in Winter than a heater like this can supply. Thanks again.

It's not that an air-con supplies more heat, it does it for about 1/3 of the consumed electricity.

  • I am after this panel heater for many months and see its a very good offer. I spoke to senior guys at good guys and harvey and they advised nobo or noirot for energy-efficiency. Air con is usually 2.5 to 3kw for a normal sized room i mean 15sq. m. And for that size of room 1500w of panel heater is ok. It seems to me that panel heater is more economic.

  • bought the 2400w on the last COTD special but haven't found it to be very good. I have a large living space but the only way you can get warm at all is to be standing right in front of it. Probably would work better in a smaller enclosed room.

I bought these from COTD last time they ran this deal. I discovered that these are not the same panels that Australian re-sellers carry. At that time COTD advised that castors could be purchased from Noirot stockists, and lo and behold those castors were for the Australian models and they didn't fit! I see that COTD have tried to avoid this problem this time around by also selling the correct castors with the deal.

On top of this, my biggest issue was the substandard packaging that COTD used. These are heavy items and both heaters I purchased arrived damaged (dents and bends) due to substandard packing and possibly COTD's carrier' handling. Whilst COTD eventually gave me a refund, I was left out of pocket due to wrong castors, which was as a result of COTD advice. I wouldn't purchase these items from COTD again and suggest buyer beware.
