  • This is the best price I have seen thus far!

    • same .. I just wish it was black … and 3g…

      • I thought it's 3G? It's capable of making phone call
        http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_8_0_n5100-5252.p…

        • There's a 3G model and wifi model. The 3G model isn't available in Australia yet.

        • oh, didnt know that. thanks!!

      • They use the white to target mum, no 3G here yet.

      • Just checking, does that mean the version on sale now can't use the mobile data from the sim card but still make phone calls?

        • Nope - this version can't make voice calls. Only the 3G version comes with the necessary components to make voice calls. This is the only thing preventing me from purchasing!

        • +1

ah ok thanks, I'm waiting as well. I want my giant phone already!

        • Same :) But I'm expecting the price to be a ridiculous difference compared to the wifi only model.

        • The 3G model is about $500 overseas. Hopefully it'll be about that price here too.

        • I haven't been able to find pricing for the 3G model overseas - can you let me know where you saw it? Is it available to buy from overseas and have it shipped here??

    • +2

In that case it's probably a Pricing Error…GH will be all over the new tonight calling you a thief!

  • Wow. Great prices… very tempting, but still holding off for now…

    • Yeah Android tablet price drop too quick but consider this is Note which normally drop slower.

      • doesn't the nexus drop slower.

        • Normally they set high the original price and drop quick to a standard price and stopped there for some time.

  • Thanks Op. Good price. Really tempted to buy today!

I'm waiting for the 3G version.

    • I decided to wait till May 15 to see if the rumoured 1920x1200 7.7" Nexus tablet will really come out at Google I/O.

  • When compared to other retail outlets this is a good price for this product. However I feel that it is overpriced when compared to other products like the Nexus 7, iPad Mini even the Galaxy Note 10.1.

    -Edit-
If it had a 1080p screen, I'd be in my car right now to get one.

    • I feel its not overpriced since it has the same specs as the note 2 which is superior to the above mentioned devices. For not much more than an ipad mini you are getting a greatly superior product with easily user expandable memory.

      • I'm not sure I agree, though I haven't held one in my hands and that is a true test, actually using it.

I'm an Android fan, I don't like Apple as a company much but their tablets are spot on, their iPad mini is an excellent device.

Now this device is the newest of the bunch and costs $390 on a 'gigantic sale', Nexus 7 is $249 and the iPad mini is $299 (Kogan + delivery).

Though the Galaxy Tab is faster than both of those, it is not by a gigantic leap, the screen resolution at 8 inches gives a lower PPI. So against a Nexus 7 you are paying $140 for the option to use a pen and a slightly faster processor. I don't think it is a bargain that is all.

I being too harsh on it, I think now. But still, it should have shipped with 1080p.

You complain about the display but the ipad mini has a 768 x 1024 pixel display (162ppi).

        • ozhunter is right

        • It's true, but I'm not buying the iPad mini either. I wasn't praising the iPad Mini's screen though. Apples tablets at there release dates are pretty much the pinnacle of a tablet. If someone gave me one though, I'd sell it and buy an Android tablet.

The iPad Mini was released Nov 2012 and Galaxy Note 8 was released April 2013, I would have been all over this at 1080… that is all. I think my problem with the device is that.

          -EDIT-

But what about comparing this to a 32GB Nexus 7 at $255? Does any point I make have any validity???

        • Apples tablets at there release dates are pretty much the pinnacle of a tablet.

What makes the ipad mini so great? It also did come out 5 months later than the Nexus 7 which is a long time in tech life.

        • You keep focusing on the iPad Mini, I assume you dislike the product?

        • Well you did say Apple tablets so I assume I could mention the ipad mini. Comparing the 32GB versions, the ipad mini also costs $180 more.

Until the Nexus 10, the ipad had better specs than I think all android tablets.

Heck, since I don't like Apple… iPad Mini sucks, its just an old cheap model shrunk down.

Nexus 10 has higher res screen and a faster processor, shame not many apps will take advantage of that screen for a while.

Haha I love it how you were trying to be fair this whole time… :) I found that whole thread quite amusing

It has a Wacom screen, about a 400-point difference in geekbench, an sd card slot, and a somewhat better screen.

Still, probably not worth double the price, but some may prefer.

    • I bought my iPad mini 64GB for 588 or something

$390 + $50 for 64GB microSD card doesn't seem that expensive to me at all

  • Did anyone else notice that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB is priced higher than the ASUS Transformer TF300T 32GB?

Surely anyone buying would go to the TF300T, right?

    • Surely anyone buying would go to the TF300T, right?

Definitely, since it has double the storage and the keyboard dock which is much better than having a stylus. Though the Note 10.1 has 2x ram and I think slightly better cpu.

      • I'm talking just the Tab, not the Note.

32 GB Galaxy Tab with no 3G costs $454.
32 GB TF300T with keyboard dock costs $412.

Either the Galaxy Tab is well over priced or the TF300T is a real good price.

For what it's worth, I bought the Note 8 the day after it was released here and I honestly think it was one of the best purchases I've ever made. I played with both it and the Nexus before deciding, and I haven't regretted my decision for a second. Obviously everyone is different but I love my Note.

Wish I'd got it for this cheaper price though!!!

  • Hey guys,

Thoughts on Harvey Normans sale on :
ASUS Transformer TF700T at $665 with 64 GB of storage, keyboard + SD slot
    versus buying from Google Play:
Google Nexus 10 at $469 plus a bluetooth keyboard for around $50, totalling $520.

    • Yea that's fair… but for some reason the Asus transformer don't really drop in price.

In you comparison, the Asus TF has 4x storage, battery life including dock is 14-15 hours, you can clip the tablet to the dock like a notebook and the dock also has 2 usb slots.

      • Hmmm, the price not dropping is the biggest draw for me. I only intend to keep it to Feb next year and if it is in good condition to sell it on.

But will the Nexus 10 drop that much? It's screen will still be awesome, it is currently the fastest Android tablet and you can use an external USB (read only) device. If they gave it an SD card slot it would be a no brainer…

Nexus 10 has extra 'who cares' features like Bluetooth 4, NFC, HDMI, DLNA and stereo speakers, but TF700T has lots of great pluses like battery life, 4 x the storage and a SD card slot. However Nexus 10 is newer, the screen is amazing, its super fast and better OS support (probably will get official Android 5).

wonder if samsung is releasing a 3g version of this? i can see it in other countries when i google

  • Thanks to the op. I bought the note 8 from jb hifi and they agree to price match Harvey Norman's prices. I m liking the tablet so far.

  • Thanks to the OP.
I listened to this one on Radio today morning. Went to JB Hi-Fi and got a Note10.1.
Dicksmith, Myers and BingLee all couldn't price match this one, and then the guy at JB Hi-Fi said that its 25 AUD under their Cost price.
Really pleased with my purchase, and looking forward to play with it tonight!

    • Interestingly, I overheard 2 of the staff conversing with one another re. my request to price match and the more senior one said that $390 for the Note 8 is $25 below their cost price but they will price match anyway.

I even got them to price match HN's book cover which is $49 vs $49.95 that they are selling. So that is $0.95 cost savings in the spirit of an Ozbargainer. :)

  • Thanks OP, bought one this afternoon just to see how android is vs iOS.

  • Bought one at JB Hifi further away from HN from my workplace because I thought I could get a pricematch. Yes they do pricematch (one of the staff put up his sour face, but the store manager was cool about it). But they can't beat the price. So I got it for $390. The book cover is 49.95, they can't discount it. Too pricey, so I leave it naked
