  • I'm trying to figure out if a 1999 game for $2.39 is a bargain or not.

Don't GOG do some work to these old games to ensure they work well on modern PCs? If they've had some involvement on the support side of things then I guess this is a deal. If it's a completely unaltered 14 year old game then I dare say it should be freeware by now.

    • I torrented this game (don't worry I bought a copy back in the day and I've still got it but it's too scratched) and it works flawlessly on my WIN7 PC except that it doesn't lock the mouse within my primary screen so it can leave the edge which is annoying when scrolling on the map and if I accidentally click the 2nd screen it leaves the window like alt+tab but I just change to single screen and then go back to extended displays after gameplay.

And no just because it's 14 years old doens't mean it should be freeware.

      • Okay, fair call.

It's still illegal… At least, in the US it is…

        • Illegal here too. The problem with torrents is that you also upload to other people thus 'making available' the content. Additionally if there are any DRM measures that have been bypassed/disabled in the torrent that is another charge.

Not saying it isn't morally acceptable, just be careful about the legal standing.

Gog.com got the game to work at higher resolutions on newer machines. Apparently if you use the normal version and use a high resolution you can't see the research tab and a few other things correctly stopping you update those part a certain part unless you reduce resolution and increase it again afterwards. It is on Gog.com forum.

Yes and this includes this, so does that make this a dupe?

  • This was one of my favourite games of all times, finished it many times.

  • Such an awesome game. I'd kind of like a sequel but they'd probably butcher it

  • I bought the game from GOG on a previous sale.

It's still a magnificent game, one of the best ever made. I heard that it's still has the highest ever review score on PC Gamer magazine.

Here it is on metacritic http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/sid-meiers-alpha-centauri

  • Is Masters of Magic available??

It is even better than Alpha Centauri…

  • I didnt care much for Civ, but really enjoyed this one for some reason.
