Not a deal. Sataticice price is irrelevent, 1tb USB3 can be had for $72 at flingshot.

I doubt there's anyone who would buy 500gb for a few dollars less than 1tb.

Not every one wants 1tb. Look at how popular the $29 OW deal was the other day for a 320gb drive. Why pay for what you don't need.

Because we're talking about a few dollars.

There's a critical difference in your comparison.

320gb is worthwhile because it's the cheapest thing you can get to repair or build a computer, or transfer more than a handful of files.
500gb is not the cheapest, nor the biggest, therefore doesn't have a place in the market at this price
1tb is a relevant comparison because it is the best size/price ratio in the market at the moment.
(and in case you're wondering, 1.5 and 2tb aren't relevant for comparison because they also have a different purpose: capacity regardless of price)

  • I agree it's not a deal. I'd rather pay $10 more for double the capacity.

$29 for 320gb was not a bad deal, but I don't think I'd ever carry around a 320gb if it takes up no extra physical space to carry around a 1.5TB drive.
