$1 Ice Creams (Magnum, Cornetto etc) Shell Coles Express Northmead

430

Mum came home after filling up petrol with a bag full of ice creams for $1 from the Shell on Briens Rd Northmead (next to the Maccas, KFC and Pancakes on the Rocks). She said it's because they're changing the fridge and need to get rid of them. So being the OzBargainer i am, i promptly left to go get some more! Thought i'd share this for anyone in the area.
They have:
Magnum (sadly no almond)
Cornetto
Drumstick
Paddlepop
Weis Bars
Heaven
maybe a couple more, can't remember

I wonder if cakes also contribute to Australia's obesity epidemic, eh? http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/102718

        • +1

Anorexics also cost the health system and people with injuries from exercise and childbirth and what about all those people with hereditary disease and their children and alcoholic and cigarettes and std's so stop making love people.

        • You beat me to it, was just about to post the same link :P

        • +2

freerider and indosteve both have their location as Perth and were trolling the Target Polo thread too.. there be shenanigans afoot.

        • I just up voted to buck the trend

        • OWNED!

        • -3

Thanks bargainboogan., glad someones on the same page!

        • +2

As much as I disagree with freerider, it's simply ridiculous to compare anorexia nervosa (a very serious life-threatening mental health illness), hereditary diseases which are completely out of the control of the people suffering from them and obesity. Additionally, their burden on the health care system is significantly smaller than the burden of obesity-related conditions including type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease.

There are some valid comparisons between cigarette smoking, alcohol use and eating in excess (leading to obesity) and their respective roles in the public healthcare system.
All three are behaviour that lead to illnesses which place a huge burden on the health care system which is payed for by all tax-payers. Therefore, people should definitely take personal responsibility for their behaviour.

My disagreement with freerider comes from the knee-jerk over-simplified reaction shown in his initial post.

Firstly, although noone would claim that eating ice-cream is healthy, doctors and nutritionists in Australia would mostly condone being able to ate most foods in moderation. Having such a simplistic, perfectionist view of food as labeling a $1 ice cream deal as promoting unhealthy food practices demonstrates your unhealthy view of food. Additionally, having such relentless standards are what often ends up leading people to binge-eating/purging behaviors. Ice-cream isn't physically addictive like cigarettes or alcohol and as much as you don't like it, is enjoyed by adults and children across Australia.

Secondly, OzBargain doesn't have a social responsibility and isn't a social change movement. It's a community designed for sharing bargains, including clothes and electronics made with cheap labor in China and Bangladesh, coke deals which as you say would "contribute to the national epidemic" but also music, travel and gym deals. It doesn't (thankfully) discriminate and let's people make their own moral and personal choices. If you expect everyone to have the same exact moral views you do you'll be continuously let down.

Also, the hypocrisy of posting about a previous cake deal- "Too Sweet? I found these to be just perfect. I work in an office too, and brought these as an afternoon tea treat for my team" is amusing to say the least. Projection much?

      • +5

me too mate. We as Australians have the unique ability to choose what we say/eat/drink/inject etc. I guess freerider will not watch any TV, use the internet or read the newspaper because of any potential Hungry Jacks or KFC advertisement. Good deal blackbandit - any magnum for $1 is a good magnum.

        • +2

Upvoted just because of freerider. Not much keen on icecream, but always keen for the freedom of people to choose what they want to purchase

        • -7

That's silly dunster. If I didn't use the internet? How on earth would I be posting this response . LOL!!! FACEPALM! Egg on your face my friend.

        • I'm watching my figure mate, I don't buy eggs due to the health risk (especially when fried). I'll gladly have a magnum in my face though (gotta be almond though). All the best with your health campaign.

        • Wow. You are ignorant. I have never, honestly, met someone like this face to face; I think if I did, I would punch them.

It's a free country, say what you like; but the majority of us can watch what we eat, we don't need someone dictating it.

    • Yeah, I remember those. When I was a kid the communist party also knew what is the best for their people. And to make it easy for them, they banned anything they felt was bad.
But hey, we are in 21st century now, and hey, we do not live in a communism, so give the OP break. It is his choice, as is other's people choice to do what they wish, as long as they do not interfere with other's freedom.
Hey, freerider, you know, a lot of people are obese, they sit at a computer instead of helping build schools in Nigeria. So pick up your a*ss and go to Africa instead of your 3 times a day meal and nice shiny computer in front of you. So…
Freerider can you please think twice about your posts in the future and ensure you refrain from posting any comments that may further divert you from your mission to save kids from starving.

      Thanks for your time

      • Remind me again, when exactly was the communist party in power and with the ability to ban anything?

    • +1

Better grab a few of those ice creams and chill out freerider.

    • Deal with it.

    • cool

  • +4

Only 80.6Kms away from me. Not sure if worth going or not.

    • +4

You just have to purchase enough to MAKE it worth the trip.

      • +3

I like your thinking. One problem though, how am I to get them home and into the freezer before they melt?

        • +8

who says you have to get home before you eat them?

    • -5

Definitely not bargainhunter! With the average car using about 9.5kms/Litre, and you being 80.6kms away. thats about 17L on average that you'd be using there and back which equates to roughly 21 bucks of fuel (based on today's average fuel prices). So simple math suggests it wouldn't be a good deal for you.

Not to mention the unnecessary calories and fats that would be doing harm to your body!!

      • Simple math suggests he needs to buy at least…
(x - $1) / $21 … Where x is equal to the RRP of the icecream … to make it worth while

        • It's actually $21/x - 1 to get the required ice creams needed to be bought to break even on costs.

          You're welcome…

        • You are so wrong, freerider lol
Not sure if srs or troll

        • Oh really I'm wrong am I? Let's try beatlocks equation of x-1/21…
Lets say rrp is $3..inserting that into the equation.

3-1/21 = 0.095..so that's how many ice creams are needed to break even? Very clever

        • HAHA LOL
          brb wut brackets

gonna follow you from now on, provide lols

      • Wondering if this deal or the 2$ hungry jacks deals of recent times is worse..

      • Where do you get the average car doing 9.5KM Per litre?

  • Thanks for sharing….. Too far away for it to be useful for me but it will be good for others

If you did a bit of research, You'd know that Aunty Barb's cakes are low in fat, less than 4.1gms/100gms in fact. As opposed the Magnums which contain about 300 calories per serve with half of them coming from fat!

You all speak of freedom of speech and the right to purchase whatever you like, but tell that to Big Kev from the biggest loser who struggles to tie his shoelaces now.

Might I note Blackbandits other post was for a KFC deal.

Please seek help blackbandit. My email is [email protected] if you'd like some guidance. I'd be more than happy to go through a nutritional lifestyle plan with you.

If you did a bit of research, You'd know that Aunty Barb's cakes are low in fat, less than 4.1gms/100gms in fact.

The Fat content is always reported in either Saturated/Unsaturated.
The one that ends in …urated (either saturated or unsaturated) says 5.2g per 100g according to your image.

      I did my research.

      Freerider,

First of all, may i remind you the purpose of this website, “This is the place where we share the best bargains in Australia and share them with each other. Our goal is simple – bringing the best deals and bargains in Australia to consumers.” – Taken from the OzBargain About Us page

I appreciate that you are mindful of obesity in Australia however this is not a health, fitness or obesity forum, it is a bargain forum and if the notion of hearing about cheap ice cream upsets you so greatly then perhaps this is not the forum for you.

Secondly you suggested that i should seek help. This being based on what exactly? That i received coupons for KFC in the mail and thought that other bargain hunters may be interested in saving a few dollars on their next KFC purchase? That there were cheap ice creams available and i thought it might be nice to share this offer with the OzBargain community? My finding and posting these bargains in no way insinuates that i am unhealthy, overweight or have poor nutrition, for all you know about me i may be the healthiest individual ever to use these forums, on the other hand i may be a morbidly obese one eyed pirate with a purple beard and a parrot on my shoulder (no offence to all the larger, one eyed pirated out there), the fact of the matter is you have no way of knowing and based on the information you have about me you are in no position to suggest that i seek help and frankly i resent the insinuation.

Admittedly, we did end up purchasing a total of 22 ice creams from Shell today. That does not mean that i spent my evening sitting on the couch stuffing my face, in fact i have not eaten a single one, in my house we have this thing called a freezer, i put my purchases into that to enjoy at a future time instead of having to pay hugely inflated prices for an ice cream later on.

It is most probable that you are merely trolling in some attempt to gain the attention you may be lacking in your day to day life, even if that is the case, i still believe that my post constitutes an appropriate bargain and am glad to have put forth my 2 cents in support of it.

To everyone else who appreciated the bargain, i thank you for your support and hope you enjoy your ice creams.

      • i do not appreciate this bargain u fat hunk

Cwongtech you found a 1.1gm discrepancy in my post. Very well done.

My posts were based on an average of all of Aunty Barb's cakes. You picked out the statistics from one of their many products. You my friend are a victim of specified data analysis, in essence negating the entire range of values in question.

"Zoomed in" "I did my research". I'm sorry but if zooming in counts as research in your books than you my friend should be very concerned. It's almost fitting that you have the picture of a popular children's character as your display pic.

I don't mean to be nasty cwongtech but I feel as though you are looking for reasons to undermine my intentions to promote a healthy lifestyle amongst Australians.

    We shouldn't be fighting man

      Bro do you even?
And no, the package next to it says 7.2g/100g the numbers lower than 4 would refer to the protein content.
So it is more than a 1.1 magnitude of discrepancy

Nice work OP, thank you. I just came back from there after seeing your post and immediately driving there through peak hour traffic to score a few ice creams. I live only 3 kms away. How any did I buy? I bought 30. THIRTY.

This is why I both love and hate ozbargain. Thank you OP, thank you ozbargain and thank you to the people waiting in line for not punching me as every. single. ice cream. was. price. modified. x30

Not surprisingly, the cashier did not say 'thank you, come again'.

    • MoncoleMoose please please look after yourself

      • Thank you for the caring comment. I have family staying over for a few nights this weekend, including a couple of kids. I'm sure at least half of the ice creams will be devoured by Sunday afternoon.

Any remainders will be eaten only occasionally or given to the wonderful neighbours I have.

        • Riiiiight!! *wink wink :-)

      +1 for the apu reference:)

how long did it take to process/purchase them?

      • It probably seemed a lot longer than it was. But by the time the transaction was over there was 8 people in the queue behind me. Maybe 3 or 4 minutes.
