  • Thanks, will give them a try

Don't forget to NOT check the box which screams "I WANT SPAM!".
It's not an I agree to the terms & conditions checkbox.

    • +2

      Too late!

    • +5

Would you really turn down free spam? I expected better from you, moolah.

    • +1

      Spam goes great with coffee

      • +1

        Boiled spam

    • You see it as spam, I see it as a bonus freebie.

    • Doesn't let you continue without having it checked.

    • As 'Sage' reported on June 2nd

Doesn't let you continue without having it checked.

They have changed their SUBMIT form so that it is now mandatory to check the box to give consent to receive "commercial messages" from "Michel's Patisserie or its nominee".

When I took up their free coffee offer at the end of May I did not have to "opt in" to receiving these Commercial Messages. Now one receives this message if the "Consent" box is not selected:-

"Please opt in to receive your free coffee voucher.
RFG and Michel's Patisserie respects your privacy. Your personal information will never be shared"

How can this be "opt in" (optional) if one can not proceed to receiving ones voucher unless it is selected?

FYI yo just need to present this voucher to redeem:

    • +4

does that mean we can go in everyday with a newly printed coupon? :P

      • That would be unethical.

        But yes, yes you can.

        • as unethical as non-single origin coffee?

    • Very strange. I can't print this pdf file?!!

Shows up as a blank page for me.

      Has anyone else found this?

      • Sounds like you drew a blank :P

  • +1

No barcode or whatsoever, just print it for the whole month.

  • Thanks OP.

  • Thank you!

  • thanks!

T&C's for those who can't read it. NOT THAT IT MATTERS yaoming.jpg

Valid at all Michel's Patisserie stores. 1 small coffe per voucher only. Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers. Valid from 1/06/13 to 30/06/13. A printed voucher must be presented for redemption. /Free/? coffee is a small michel's expresso coffee only - includes cappuccino, latte, flat white and long black. Free coffee avaliable in full cream or skin milk only. Exludes decaf, soy, expresso shots and /grounded/? types. One offer per person per during the campaign period (yaoming.jpg). Offer is not redeamable for cash. "Awarded 'Coffee shop of the year 2012'" by the roy morgan customer satisfaction awards.

    • +9

One offer per person during the campaign period?

      10/10. Would LOL again.

      • One offer per person during the campaign period?

No, it stated "One offer per person per (sic) during the campaign period." One must expect that the missing word is "day" - as I can't think of another word that would make any sense.

So, the original coupon should state "One offer per person per day during the campaign period."

    • Curious that espresso is excluded. All the other types start off as a shot of espresso.

      • Must be using some crap beans which would be too noticeable for an espresso shot.

        • soy excluded!!!

      • +2

        Espresso ISN'T excluded

Free… coffee is a small michel's expresso coffee only - includes cappuccino, latte, flat white and long black.

    • +2

      thanks yaoming

I will be doing my civil duty by leaving a pile of these on their front counter.

    • +4

      civic duty

The vouchers look a bit dodgy because the resolution is poor and it's very difficult to read the fine print at the bottom.

I can see this being another one of those promotions where the person serving stands there inspecting the voucher for some 30 seconds before asking "Where did you get this?" and "I'll just have to check with my manager".

    • +1

Except that these are emailed, so everyone has to print anyway.

  • Fine post, OP, thanks for sharing.

  • +5

What's the bet this promo will be pulled in the first week due to abuse!

Looks very ill-conceived. Nonetheless, thanks to the OP.

    • If franchisees claim back from franchisor, I wonder how many franchisees will be printing out the forms themselves to claim?

If franchisees cop the cost themselves, I can't see them being accepted for very long :)

  • May be they really want to give out free coffee for the whole month.

    • +3

      ITS A TRAP!

  • Thanks OP. Now we just have to wait 11 more days before we can get some free coffee.

    • +7

June 1st is gonna be like a flashmob.

      • +1

and 5 minutes later a very hyper flash mob

  • +3

This is better than the coffee club card!

    Thanks op

    Ozbagined coming up!

  • +1

For those that can't get enough free coffee don't forget this offer is still active http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/98966

    • +8

Great for free and the wife doesn't mind them, but I have a problem with Nescafé being referred to as 'coffee'.

  • Doesn't include soy? Damn it. Really sucks being lactose intolerant (and vegan, but I couldn't drink milk anyway). I would hope they will let me pay 50c or whatever for the soy.

I actually can't believe how simple the voucher is, it's actually quite ridiculous.
No unique barcode, or basically any uniqueness to them at all
Seemingly no limit on use, apart from '1 coffee per voucher'!
No clause in terms for right of cancellation of voucher or such?

Being a franchised company, similar to Dominos, I wonder how the franchisor is dealing with payment to the franchisee for the cost of the coffee (if at all?). At least it would appear that Dominos had a marketing payment from Hardy's to be divided upon Franchise Owners whom had vouchers redeemed. Surely the franchisor isn't going to want to pay for a persons breakfast, brunch, lunch and arvo coffees for 30 days! I can only assume that the marketing manager who organised this will get a pretty severe talking to about this! At least the guys at Dominos had their exit clause worked out, and had a way to fund it.

    Really dumbfounded.

    Cheers,
    Wade

    • Probably reimbursed the cost from the big guys up at HQ

      • Surely retail food group (ASX listed) can afford a few coffees, they cost next to nothing anyways.

    • +1

Talk about examining the gift horse's entire alimentary tract….:-(

    • +1

I agree this was a severely ill conceived promotion. Someone forgot to tell Michels at Morley Galleria in Perth 6062 about it.

I went there, tried to use the voucher, got a dirty look from the frontline staff, got told to wait, then got two more dirty looks from two more senior staff (all ladies) who came from out the back and informed me that they'd only accept "originals".

I joined their spam list and downloaded and printed the voucher as per offer so the "original" is the copy that came out of my printer!

Didn't feel like making a scene but might bring my iPad to show them the promotion website to labour the point net time.

      Their website says:

Complete the form below to receive a FREE voucher which entitles you to one small coffee^ at your local Michel’s Patisserie store during the month of June. Your free voucher will be emailed to you.

Once you’ve enjoyed your Michel’s Patisserie Espresso, be sure to complete the feedback form to go into the draw to win 1 of 8 Michel’s Patisserie gift vouchers+.

Bit hard to rate the coffee you haven't tasted.

      Anyone else been refused?

Didn't manage to get coffee but still left with a bitter taste in the mouth. :(

      • Don't have a smart phone?
Maybe we should bookmark that Web page on phone for backup.

      • thanks for the heads up. i'm going to print out their web page about this promotion just in case.

i haven't been refused at all for the WA stores i've been to so far: Clarkson, Rockingham, Kardinya, Cockburn, Carousel.

  • +7

Doesn't include soy? Damn it. Really sucks being lactose intolerant

Or…. Drink black coffee. The way its supposed to be consumed. Not your weird diluted-with-milk mix.

  • i lol'd at one coffee per customer, but don't get me wrong i only lel'd 5 times.

  • +5

June will see productivity sky-rocket across Australia.

    • just in time for the EOFY :D

  • +2

Maybe its bate coffee? Like those us marshall sting operation in the us? Round up all ozbarginers

  • Might be a dumb q -> How come this deal hasn't been "removed" as it's not active yet??
Regardless, free coffee FTW. Cheers OP.

  • +7

My bosses won't like this one bit…

    • +6

dear rep, you are officially being ozbargained.

    • +4

Tell them the manager fked up - marketing always forget to run things past legal!

      • Marketing never runs shit by anyone. The front line ends up copping it.

    • +1

Tell your boss he can have a freebie on me. Print out this voucher and hand it over to him.

    • The funny thing is today they were setting up the poster for this promotion. I guess they're totally oblivious to what could come.

    • +1

I was shown some more information about it today. It looks like they are going all out. There will be a goal of around 15-20 free coffees a day. Badges, shirts, posters, we have to let everyone know about the promotion etc etc.

They apparently get some bags of coffee in return. I suppose its really just to entice people to come back. Bit of a gamble if you ask me.

      • +1

I guess if you come for coffee, you'll also get a cake or something to complement it. The pastries are quite expensive so I suppose it should work out eh? Besides its just a small coffee.

      • 15-20 free coffees a day… Hmmm, wonder how they would feel about it if they had 100 or so.

      • +2

Lol @ goal of 15-20 free coffees a day.

I feel sorry for them because clearly they haven't heard about us lol

  • What a pity I don't have any Michel's Patisseries nearby :( I wonder if they'll actually accept it come June 1st.

  • The Michels I've been to (East vic park) has indeed got great coffee but experiences with their food was far less impressive - stale cakes and ultra expensive toasted sandwiches which barely had any fillings at all.

    • Luckily it's only for free coffee then!

      • Decent pies though

  • +2

    50 Staff + free voucher + Michel's within 10m of Workplace = Win!

Not sure the Franchiser is gonna be that happy….. ;-P

    • +1

I just had a laugh thinking about 50 people all walking in at once with the coupons and the managers cracking the shits.

  • Last time I went to Michels a few years ago the coffee was really bad and cakes/food stale. it seems popular with senior citizens though.

    • +1

No senior citizens here…. just tight arses! lol

  • +11

Time to organize some ozbargain bus tours

  • OMG can you believe that Michel is going to be famous for not only the "best coffee" but the best screw up of free coffee…. I wonder how many freebies they are gonna cough up!?

Me thinks its going to be a looooooong month for these guys!!

  • +1

I'm curious to see what happens to their share price. Ozbargain moving the market…

  • -1

Can somone post the free smiths popped chips and sunbites popcorn handout in sydney pitt street until 3pm. They have heaps of free product. New user so cannot post yet.

  • still another week to go until this promotion even begins so it might be pulled completely :(

    • Similar to the Nottage Hill free Domino's pizza saga!

  • +2

    (1) You need to check the box to receive spam or else you can't get your coupon.

    (2) After I submitted I got this:
"Your voucher will be in your inbox shortly. We hope you enjoy your Michel's Espresso."

    From the T&C:
    "Exludes… expresso …"

    Um…

    • EXpresso?

  • +1

Looks like this deal just might stir them up

    • +2

I wonder if we can be accused of mugging?

      • +1

This month might be a real grind for the franchisees out there

        • +1

they'll be frothing at the mouth

        • +1

Just like a coffee being made badly, they might get burnt.

  • -5

What the hell is a Patisserie?

    • +1

The French word for pastry shop (bakery).

  • +5
