  • really want one but…on the fence!

I have one of these already and have been using it for the last few months.

    Pros
    - Device turns on/off automatically when the car turns on/off (just leave it plugged into the cig lighter socket constantly)
    - fits nicely between the rear view mirror and the windscreen so that it's completely out of sight while driving
    - Cable is long enough to go along the top of the windscreen, down the A-pillar, along the edge of the door, under the floor mats, then up to the centre hand rest (that's where my socket is) so it's also completely out of sight
    - Video quality is good during the day and the viewing angle is very wide so you get a really good view
    - Audio recording is great
    - You can catch some pretty interesting videos with it

    Cons
    - Software plays up sometimes - it will just constantly turn on and off again without recording anything.. Then you have to reset the device and re-enter the time/date which can be annoying. This happens around once a week and I find that it generally happens if I turn the car off then on again in a short period of time e.g. within 10min.
    - The bracket weakens in the sun and doesn't hold the device firmly over time but there's nothing that blu-tack can't fix.
    - Video quality at night isn't great.
    - Can be difficult to read signs/number plates especially on the move.
    - File size is huge - approx 1gb for 10min at the highest quality

Overall I think it's a pretty good device - I don't regret buying it at all.

  • These "high definition" cameras are a jock. True HD cameras allow reading the number plates of other cars.
I have checked the sample video and it looks like interpotaled HD, not true HD, even on your own video. You will get the same quality image from any cheap $30 dashcam hence neg.
I am just annoyed with the falce HD adverising. Just for an example check real dashcam here:
    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2012-New-arrival-original-ful…

    • Video quality varies significantly with what you pay. If the $30 cameras had the same image quality then they would have the same VGA chipset.

Our sample videos if viewed at hd res can read number plates… Thanks for your feedback and good luck with purchasing via Ali express

      • I checked the $50 one's video, the one in King's Park. I changed the res to 1080p. I couldn't make out the number plates of the car in front nor the cars going the other way.

      • I watched your video on 1080p definition screen, no numberplate can be seen. See a real HD here:

Thanks for your reply and good luck with purchasing via Ali express and selling in Australia.

        • I could see the number plates at night. Not sure what your problem is. Rep has been polite enough to say thanks for feedback. Good luck with your Ali express shop lololol

Here is a frame from a real HD dashcamera footage, just for the sake of argument. :

        What camera is that from?

      • +1

take a frame from the same camera during night time.

        • How would a frame from this camera in night time prove that the cameras in the OP are not interpolated HD and you can see license plate numbers on them?

We don't try mislead any of our customers into buying an inferior product to what they believe they are receiving. We are upfront to the point where we have sample footage taken by ourselves, unedited. For the sake of argument you are comparing a product which is $100 + shipping to a product you are getting for half the price. We also sell the high end cameras at a similar cost, same chipset as the GS1000 you posted earlier. Think of mobile phones, just because two phones are 5mp doesn't guarantee they will be the exact image. We are merely saying the specs of the models. Your opinion if what is expected from a $50 HD cam is merely your opinion and I cannot change that, However please compare apples with apples. Don't compare $50 Dash cams with $100-$150 + shipping dash cams plus twice the shipping time. At least have a look through our website to see if we also sell those models.

Again thanks for your feedback and i'm sorry you feel passionate enough to give us a negative vote.

Hey guys, the $45 cam just sold out. Apologies for any inconveniences :) we still have the other two available. Thanks for the positive feedback thus far and we will try to respond to all your questions in a timely manner.

    • Yep that would of have been me =)

Just needed something in case of accidents on the roads… If I was looking for something to recognise number plates etc, i would of have purchased a more expensive one (plus the misses didnt let me…)

      Thanks Op!!

  • Go to AliExpress…. heaps of them to choose from and cheap as.

  • Do the police actually do anything if you provide video footage?, for example a neighbour of mine treats the traffic lights at the end of our road as a give way no matter what colour they are…cheeky begger even drives around cars that have stopped at red!.

It is entirely dependent on time, place and circumstance. Whereabouts are you located ?

I have a Policing background and if you're willing to put pen to paper with a statement as well as provide footage, then they MAY act on the information received. Of course this means if it comes to a trial hearing you would have to attend and give evidence which is a pain in the ass.

Without some sort of corroboration I don't think they would proceed with action given the low seriousness of the offence.

Also, depends on the copper you make a complaint to. Traffic background = interested. General duties background = uninterested.

      Hope this helps mate

    • Knowing the police, they will probably congratulate the guy and give you a warning for saying FRAK to much during the footage.

  • Hey rep, I ordered and paid for one of these last Wed (22/5) and got notification from ebay that it was posted that evening. However the tracking number only shows a status of "Manifested". When will you be sending them out?

    • Resolved - it was an Australia Post problem.
