Price in title (please) or this is just spam eg. $65,000 needs to be in the title

You are welcome to join my crusade

      Traction is low.

      • For some cases agreed - eg 10% of everything.

It's a pita to have to drill down to read the details in other cases though.

I like the role generally speaking, sorry!

  • +11

Most affordable 0-100 is still a MG4 ur obviously that car's interior, screen tech etc. are far inferior.

    • +24

No matter what car dealer, if their lips are moving assume they are lying.

      • Lol..Is that so

  • -1

    Waiting for the 7x.
All these Chinese car are great but their suspension tuning under speed need catching up to the European.

    • +1

If they were great they wouldn't handle like shit and bong at you every 2.6 seconds

      • +23

        0 to 100kmh - 4s
0 to annoying beeps and bongs - 2.6s

        Key modern learnings..

1A. -Speakers and buzzers are just connected by wires….

        • +1

So true. I disconnected my engine sound enhancer speaker. So much better with some silence and solitude. Beeping and bonging in these new cars would make me go crazy

    • +4

Waiting for the (00)7GT personally. AWD model in Green plz.

      • +1

The colour options of the chinese EVs leave a lot to be desired. Either 5 shades of gray and black and then blue.

        • MG/Xpeng is colourful..cyan/bright orange etc. green is a common colour with byd/geely etc too

    • facts or not, one should not say anything bad about Chinese products…

    • +1

Not sure why you got negged. OzB likes body roll worse than a Corolla?

    • Look the the REEV from leapmotor. Suspension tuned by Maserati engineers.

  • +4

Zeekr is Volvo platform? No wonder is bit more expensive compared to other similar Chinese cars

    • +3

Yep, owned by Geely so there's a bit of shared DNA between all three. This Zeekr deal is also reminiscent of the EX5 launch offer.

    • +6

Technically this Zeekr is on a Zeekr platform and it's Volvo using the Zeekr platform rather than the other way around.

SEA platform was developed by "Zeekr Technology Europe" which is a Geely business unit based in Sweden previously known as "China Euro Vehicle Technology". Even more strangely they started this unit with a SAAB CEO who hired all his SAAB engineer colleagues.

European cars are simply not what they were.

We had a BMW previously, bought brand new, the mighty E46. Such a tank of a car. To be fair, early 00s, the car was almost $100k when you could buy a apartment in chatswood for $200k.

Now they are so generic, unfortunately theyve diluted the cars so much to sell volume.

2 weekends ago my wife and I jjst went to look at the sealion 6 and 7. Mrs didnt love it, as she wants a 7 seater. But my take away was the car was so well put together, solid, heavy doors, finished beautifully.

Anyway, there was a 2023 BMW X3 behind being sold for 95k. Im like "what about this"

First thing i noticed, how doors were so light, reminded of my old nissan pulsar when i was a kid, and when i shut the door, it made the worst, tinny, cheap sound and i was caught of guard as i was not expecting it from what was probably a $130k car.

The love affair i had with german cars is over, and its price is not the issue. Fake leather, cheap finish. The only thing thats remained are the high sevrice costs. These chinese cars are simply to good, in comparison. And its hurts me saying that as a petrol head.

      • +2

The seven seater (PHEV) Sealion 8 is coming!

      • i think it was leapmotor i tried, it would be harder to do thinner metal than that.
german cars dont seem suited to aus although its been a while since i've been in one. the last time i drove a polo it was worse than the polo i drove 30 years ago

      • To be fair, early 00s, the car was almost $100k when you could buy a apartment in chatswood for $200k.

        Surely M3?

        • +2

No an M3 was 141k + onroads from memory. No options. I think thats like 170k-odd. Maybe more
M3 is completely different league to the normal 3 series.

We just got the 325CI. It was 76k + onroads but ticked nearly all the options, so total was 96k. Back when xenon lights, special paint, mini discllayer with stacker in boot, Sunroof.. all the euro options cost a fortune. A 330ci was 110k + lct and onroads so it was like 130k on the road.

I have no idea what they cost today.. but assuming there less than 200k they are a bargain comparatively.

          • @BusMan247:

No an M3 was 141k + onroads from memory.

M4 Coupe G-series is 193k drive away atm. But just before Covid the M4 F-series could be had for 139k; And the M2, which is the spiritual successor of the E46 M3 was 93k + On Roads!

The latter hold their value well on the secondary market too.

      • -1

Been in a few BYDs, Teslas, Polestars and the like, nowhere near as nice as my M4 … period. The growl of the big twin turbo straight 6 and the popping at gearchanges in sports mode, as a kid of the 70/80's and young adult of the 90's, it's amazing. I appreciate it's expensive to buy, run and insure and also appreciate that its not a bargain but if you can afford it, an M Sport Beemer is still loads of fun and doesn't feel like a good value fridge on wheels to drive/corner. Maybe not as sharp in the corners as the best handling car I've ever owned (Renauilt Clio Sport 182, damn thing was like cornering a tram), but the big 6 is a fantastic engine.

        • +1

Those little clios were fantastic. Xenons with brakes.. awesime cars.

Ms will always be special.. just a bit surprising the quality. I ended up just getting an EV but we did check out a bunch of cars, amd was happy to spend a bit more to get the tax down , but the 340 at the time.. one step down from an M series.. had a plastic tseering wheel. Again, cheap doors etc.. there jjst selling on what was imho.

Affordability is not the issue for everyone. If its good stuff ill pay it.

          • @BusMan247: The 340i does not have a plastic steering wheel good lord.

        • The growl of the big twin turbo straight 6 and the popping at gearchanges in sports mode

the Twin Turbo 6s (S55 and S58) are way too raspy, almost VQ-like cause of the twin-turbo layout.

B58 sounds more like a traditional straight 6.

    • They want $135k for their 6 & 7 seat model. Absolutely dreaming when you can get Kia or Hyundai hybrid equivalents for less.

  • +2

Good deal. Cheaper than Volxo EX30 but that is a given since it's Zeekr brand.

  • +17

Chinese car company that's been around 4 years commands a $65,000 pricetag… lol

$65,000 isn't an ozbargain. It's more expensive than Tesla.

    • +3

But its a cheap Chinese car… oh wait…

    • +3

So true. This is the right take on this.

    • +9

Get a model y for this price if you don't hate your money

      • -2

Even then… you still gotta hate money a fair bit. Maybe get the $10k FSD package to turn it into an appreciable asset. Haha.

      • Have they improved their warranty or still only 4 years?

    • +8

      which 65k tesla does 0-100 in 3.8?

      • +1

Tesla Model 3 Long Range (dual motor) with acceleration boost option will do it in 3.8. Has a larger 80kw battery and more range.

71.9k (68.9k + 3k boost option) drive away in QLD

(a little more than 65k admittedly)

        • Don't forget the extra bonus of "phantom" braking, make sure you highly insure the driver & passengers… good luck mate.

        • (and only 4 years warranty)

    • Less panel gaps probably.

      • +2
        • fewer
    • +2

Not really, if you want to compare this to Tesla, the closest is a Performance range which is expensive than a Zeekr.

      • +4

Closest is the Tesla Model 3 Long Range dual motor with acceleration boost option, both do 0-100 in 3.8sec

Zeekr X is a fair bit smaller than the Model 3 and Model Y Tesla.

    • -5

Yep add it to the list of Chinese ev companies.."here today, gone in 4 years"

      • Well Zeekr is a sub brand of Geely it seems, which entered the automotive industry in 1997. Its subsidiaries also include Lotus Group and Volvo Car Group so I doubt they'll be actually gone in 4 years, but we'll see.

  • +6

Shortlisted our search from this, Leapmotor, Deepal, BYD Atto3 and Geely to now Geely EX5. Hard to beat the value with $2K gift card and $44.5K drive-away before EoFY. Even better value if you’re able to do it under the novated lease.

    • -3

Kia EV3? Yeah not Chinese nor cheap.

      • +1

Good call… Yes, checked that too actually. Found their Earth model useful due to the base model interior is too basic. However, we chose Geely due to the overall personal preference mainly driven by the capital value and size of the car.

      • +11

        Overpriced and underspecced.

      • +6

Just curious. Is it the fact the cars are manufactured in China or they are a Chinese owned company?

Kia EV5’s are manufactured in China as are Tesla’s (although I’d rather a Chinese built Tesla over an American one).

    • +17

Could not recommend the Xpeng G6 more. I love it.

      • +1

Another good car I think especially if you can get this side of the FY with 10Y warranty

        • +4

They'll have to either extend that or drop the price in the new FY. They've got a facelift model coming and moving the old (current) model for the next 6 months is going to be VERY difficult, particularly if they're taking 5 years off the warranty.

    • +4

And the Geely is actually a useful size.

    • +3

The Geely is surprisingly nice, as is the Kia EV3

      • +4

you'd have to spend a lot more on the EV3 to make it nice. Kia making their money on the higher trims as usual

    • Ex5 3.88% interest now on top of the eofy deal makes it better.
Unbeatable size at that price point hence I chose EX5.

      • You drove it yeah? Its floaty. Worse than the Sealion 6. Its like driving on a Thai barge in choppy water most days. Literally made me sea sick.

Not sure why these companies can not rune a cars suspension. All they need to do is copy one of the other known brands (Toyota, Mazda, VW etc).

Great value car, nice features. Just no way can live with that floaty sick inducing ride.

        • +3

Not sure why these companies can not rune a cars suspension. All they need to do is copy one of the other known brands (Toyota, Mazda, VW etc).

Maybe they feel they already copied enough of the car in the design ;)

        • +1

Don’t know why 2 people downvoted this. I test drove the Geely ex5, the sealion 7 and Tesla MY juniper, and I can say for certain the Geely is wayyy to floaty. I’ve never got car sick before but after doing 90 in the Geely I couldn’t buy the car. Was a shame as I love the look and features and the price was crazy. Ended up getting the MY juniper and yes I feel the bumps more but it’s firm enough I feel like I’m in a car and not driving on ballons

          • @Iwantthebestprice: there's some reports on the net that the suspension settles a bit after driving. i'm 1000kms into mine and I must say it feels stiffer. still a lot of body roll but not as floaty

          • @Iwantthebestprice: Appreciate the shout. I was in the same situation. I wanted the car. I love all about it. The EX30 and this Zeekr both way better in suspension. The geely is like a barge.

        • Wonder why they don't just lower it on coilovers

    • +3

I'm picking up my Geely EX5 tomorrow!

    • Geely is a cheaper brand from the same company as Zeekr. It's like comparing an Audi and Skoda or Genesis and Kia. Of course the cheaper brand is cheaper.

  • +1

You can get the Ford Mustang Mach-e for the same promo price. You need your head examined if you chose this tiny shhit box instead. Sat in the Zeekr at the Melb motor show, this thing is seriously overhyped.

    • +7

It's essentially an ad for the Chinese car company with no actual bargain in sight.

      Shouldn't be here.

      • +9

Agree, $65k is a huge amount of money for a small car. You could get a Lexus LBX for $55K driveaway which saves you $10k to spend on fuel. Lexus returns 3.8l per 100km if fuel is $2 a litre, gives you 5,000 litres or 131,578km if my math doesnt fail me. You then get a proper luxury car with minimal depreciation. Is this still even Ozbargain?

        • +3

Agreed - feel like there is group hysteria going on with these Chinese EV posts. Have people forgotten what other trusted brands cost?

        • +1

Uhh the EX5 shat on your need to fuel car and who buy cars for resale. My last car was 11 year old before it was written off.

So 11 years of still putting petrol is painful when you could had a EX5 with a better driving experience. No noisy engine, no vibration from the engine , cheaper operating cost. Quieter cabin. No fume from the tailpipe and the negative health effects from smelling that shit.

          • @ChickenAdobo: Stopping huffing tailpipes and your health will improve. Disclaimer- I am not a doctor.

        • fuel

??? What is it ? Does it slow the car down ?

        • Agree, $65k is a huge amount of money for a small car. Is this still even Ozbargain?

if you put it that way, why would you buy a LBX when you can get a corolla for 30k. and why would you get a corolla when you can get a 20yo shitbox for 3k off gumtree? apples and oranges.

    • Ford Mustang Mach-e Select - 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds
      Zeekr X AWD - 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds

I wouldn't get either. The Mach-e doesn't even have a heat pump and with the Zeekr you are paying a premium for performance which you can't really use legally on the road.

      • -8

I live my life a quarter mile at a time.

6.6 is still a rocket ship, lets not pretend its slow.

        • I don't think 6.6 is slow, but this car would only appeal to someone who is willing to pay a premium for crazy speed.

          • @Aureus: The problem is you trade-off a lot for that crazy speed. You lose battery range, you get a lot of weight which makes the handling suck. Something like the Mach-e is a much better more well rounded package.

You really do need to be about the quarter mile life to justify it Mr Torretto

            • @Brick Tamland: You are right. But some people prioritize speed over everything else.

I would say the BYD Sealion 7 is a much better deal then the Mach-e. Much cheaper, more range, more features. But taste is subjective.

              • +1

@Aureus: The Zeekr is in such a weird space. It’s marketed at the Zoomer market but it’s out of their budget.

      • The Mach-e doesn't even have a heat pump

So you need to wind your windows down to cool off in summer?

        • +3

It has air conditioning which can be used to cool the cabin and coolant that feeds to the battery.

If any heat needs to be produced it’s done via resistive heating (which is a fair bit less efficient).

In addition battery and motor heat can’t be recovered / scavenged to increase efficiency even further.

Cars with fully integrated heat pump systems work to manage heat far more efficiently.

      • -1

The Mustangs build quality and interior quality is nowhere near as nice as the Zeekr.

The LBX suggested above is a better comparison. Not everyone wants or needs a big car.

        • +1

how is the LBX comparable? apart from the badge it has no where near the level of equipment or finish. it's 0-100 is an asthmatic 9sec compared to 3.8sec here. this is a premium hot hatch EV. the LBX is a rebadged corolla for those who want to drive a Lexus

          • +1

            @V2L:

the LBX is a rebadged corolla for those who want to drive a Lexus

The LBX is actually based on the Yaris Cross, which makes it worse in every way than the Corolla. It's a very small, vastly over-priced vehicle with (wait for it) 100kW and is in no way comparable to either the Zeekr or Mach-E in performance or size.

          • @V2L: I agree, I'd personally take the Zeekr over the LBX - but if you want a small luxurious crossover, there aren't many options - and the LBX is one of the few, the Mustang is not.

    • +2

That said there is a reason why the the 2023 mach e's are the ones that are being marked down. Personally liked the mach e but those things are not moving at all, probably need a flat 10-20k off the price to make them appealing.

That said im in the process of geting a sealion 7 performance myself, but the new LM6 is tempting too.

      • They are a bit overpriced but compared to the Zeekr they seem reasonable

    • +11

You have a hell of a crusade against EV’s based on your comment history. Download the free calm app buddy.

      • I am against bad cars. If you hadn’t noticed I’d been recommending the Mach-e instead for the same price. Personally I will probably buy the new Renault ev5 or alpine version of it when it arrives here in aus.

    • You can get the Ex5 or C10 for bigger and less money.

      • +3

Nobody in their right minds would get a leapmotor c10.

    • +2

Mustang? really if anything has lower build quality it will be American garbage.

    • I saw a brand new one in a shopping centre and the hinges were rusted…

      • -1

American car companies still give you free rust with your new car purchase, now that’s how you treat a customer.

        • +2

I was talking about the zeekr … but no doubt American cars also come with a bit of rust

  • +3

EVs in general look and feel very plush (except the entry/budget oriented brands/models).

Considering EVs only took off in recent years, makes you wonder what the established auto makers been up to in the last 20 years. Of course they would tell you all the money went into R&D to improve engine and transmission.

One thing makes a lot of sense in EV is the you pay more for power and range.

In the ICE world, you have to up a trim level (or many) to get that one thing you care for.
