      (profanity) Tesla and that Putin-puppet

        • I too am a big fan of the amendment to section 13 of the Australian constitution to slightly alter the length and dates of senators' terms of office.

        • +38

oh sure, keep thinking its only reddit that hate Musk. What a laugh

            • +12

@Spets: And you think your CCP hate came from knowing CCP perfectly well. Have you even been to China? I'm not a hater of neither Musk nor CCP but generally dislike them both. But when people say Musk this and that and also CCP this and that, they both are just being ignorant. As a matter of fact, media brainwashing happening in the west is just as bad as China (if not worse). Biggest difference I see is, brainwashing here doesn't even feel like such, we just believe we're free thinkers, whereas Chinese people are sort of aware of their circumstances. Not knowing that you are brainwashed and then accusing someone of being so is just hilarious. By the way, I don't think CCP wants Musk to have a bad publicity. In the grand scheme of things CCP would certainly want EV to pick up the game and they are well aware Musk's BS is a big part of that. Besides most of Tesla products comes from mainland China. If anything, they should be worried now that people are hating Musk more than ever.

              • -3

@npnp: Bruh, you really can't be serious, the CCP that actively persecutes Uyghurs in labour camps, welded their citizens shut in their apartment buildings during Covid, actively building military bases around Philippines by creating literal new islands, using their fishing fleets all over the world to wipe out whole fish ecosystems etc. Yeah. Go on. Oh and how can I forget the recent 107th Combat ship detachment sailing around Australia and performing live fire exercises while they're at it. Clearly they're the good guys. Or that Chinese ship that used Active Sonar while Australian divers were next to them in international waters.

                • +6

@Spets: @Spets You think you are making some awesome argument but you are just proving his point…

                  • @thispasito: Explain. And no. I didn’t neg you.

                    • +8

@Spets: Well, first of all I don't know why you are comparing Musk to a whole country/party. Secondly Geely is a private company, it's not government owned, so I don't know why you bring in CCP.

                      You complained:

"Imagine hating someone you never met because the media told you so"

Except everything you said about CCP is stuff reported in mainstream media. The Chinese battleship live fire news was literally on the front page of 9 and 7 news youtube channel last week. Sounds like you are "gobbling" up way more media narrative than anyone else.

You are proving @npnp 's point that you are brainwashed. You think anything China related is bad, even when Geely has nothing to do with CCP. You seem completely oblivious to what US does. You talk about CCP being "messed up" such as Uyghurs in labour camps like you care and it affects your consumer decisions.

I don't even need to defend CCP. Look at the US government allowing for profit prisons that incarcerate people for profit. Just 2 of these prisons have a combined revenue of 4 billion USD a year. It's no better than Uyghurs in labour camps but we hardly hear about it. Iraq is now completely (profanity) because of the US invasion to find non-existant WMD. They then killed the "dictator" that they support and put in charge of Iraq as if they did something heroic. You worry about China building military bases near Philipines, but out of 195 countries in the world, only 13 countries don't have at least 1 US military base inside their border.

You been brainwashed by western propaganda to think the US are the "good guys" and China are the "bad guys". There are no good guys. Does it affect your feelings about Tesla knowing US does all these things?

                      • +3

@thispasito: Very good response. The world, fueled by western media, is incredibly biased. We didn't say a word when they (US) invaded Iraq, Afghanistan or fueled the civil war in Libya (and many other countries in many ways, the list is huge). As a result, millions of people were killed. All those countries are now broken, bankrupt with millions of starving people. Do we feel any remorse? Nope. Have you ever wonder why?

                      • @thispasito: Imagine if I didn't think US government is any better or are the "good guys". They've started more wars in the last 100 years than any other country. I never said Elon was a good guy either, just interesting to see how people jumped on him now that the Media tells them to. Couple of years ago the same people would give their left nut to him.

Congrats. You just jumped to conclusions to try to sound superior.

"The Chinese battleship live fire news was literally on the front page of 9 and 7 news youtube channel last week" and yet it happened, so good job on proving my point, you keep watching those channels too.

Geely may be privately owned but they definitely are in doing work with CCP, like any other large Chinese private company. That's how they Chinese Communism system works.

                        • @Spets: Mate, you are so lost in the sauce.

never said Elon was a good guy either

So you don't think he is a good guy… but anyone who dislikes him is because they "gobble" up media. What kind of mental gymnastic triple flip are you on about?

you keep watching those channels too

Yes, I can watch stuff and be critical. Isn't your whole arguement about people not being critical about the media?

Geely may be privately owned but they definitely are in doing work with CCP. That's how they Chinese Communism system works.

You are so knowledgable about Chinese Communism mate. The owner of Geely has criticised the CCP for not investing in privately owned domestic automotive companies. His biggest gripe with the CCP is that the state owned automotive companies don't partner with private ones.

Yet Musk, who has recieved billions in funding, loans, tax credits from the US government. He is currently an advisor to the president. Oh but Geely is definitely more connected to CCP cause "That's how they Chinese Communism system works".

Please don't reply because I won't reply again because this is such a waste of time. This isn't even a discussion or argument. It's just me teaching you stuff.

Please just stop. You are so brain washed.

                          • @thispasito: Every car manufacturer gets government grants in every country. Holden did it too here in Australia. Congrats, you're so smart. So educated.

                            Remember, education =/= intelligence.

                • +6

@Spets: The Uyghur labour camp narrative was pushed very successfully by ASPI which is funded by USAID, MIC, and other special interest groups off the back of an interesting character by the name of Adrian Zens. The report which Adrian Zens wrote up was specifically commissioned by the UK. I will let others do their own research into these entities and come to their concluded about this topic.

South China Sea - There are heaps of overlapping claims from other South East Asia countries but for some reason the west only likes to harp on about China's claim to it.

The combat ships sailing around Australia is an interesting one. A few weeks ago before this incident, there was an Australian spy plane dropping submarine detection devices into "international waters" around China. I would say China sending ships sailing around us is a pretty tame responds after knowing this fact. Our media only telling half-trues which is why we are have so many people hating things they really know nothing about.

                  • +3

@JoBevo: I dunno man, seems like a labour camp to me - https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ilab/against-their-will-the-sit…

"South China Sea - There are heaps of overlapping claims from other South East Asia countries but for some reason the west only likes to harp on about China's claim to it."
Because China is the only one making man made islands to strengthen their grip on the region?

"I would say China sending ships sailing around us is a pretty tame responds after knowing this fact." And don't forget their live fire exercises.

Let's talk about active assaults on our divers with active sonar, or destroying whole ecosystems with their fishing fleets. Or welding up their own citizens during covid.

                • @Spets: Look at you. Nicely brainwashed to the point now even ready to battle.. You are convinced that the Earth is flat as well, aren't you? Trump is the god sent saviour of the western civilisation. Musk is the noble man helping him unconditionally. Ignorant people are accusing these greatest people for saving the planet earth from all sorts of troubles.. Oh dear… Keep watching Fox mate.. At least you are happy within your limited self..

                  • +1

@npnp: You literally refuted nothing besides going on a personal attack. Good job, gobbling up that Elon is bad narrative like a good boy. Don't forget to wipe your mouth after.

              • -3

                @npnp:

I'm not a hater of neither Musk nor CCP but generally dislike them both.

Well that is fine, you are allowed to not like things. But the difference is the Commies are generally disliked because they oppress and murder hundreds of millions of people. Musk is disliked because some emotionally fragile children saw him act funny in Tiktok.
                There is no equivalence here.

            • @Spets: Yet the majority of the value of an electric car is in the battery, who makes Tesla's batteries?

Two chinese giants - BYD and CATL (for all LFP models which they are transitioning most models to).

            • -1

@Spets: Media had nothing to do with my dislike of him, his own actions did! … support the POS … seems like your kinda guy!

              • @Series4Episode10: The "salute" thing once v's all the positives he's done for humanity like starlink, mainstreaming EVs, making space an affordable frontier, having a somewhat freedom of speech promoting social media platform (yes I know they ban random accounts but not as much as literally any other social media platform you use).

          • -1

@Pacify: Yup, a 75% drop in Aus sales of Nazi cars says it all!

      • HTF could Tesla drop prices? … since the company already loses a lot of $ (and always has run at a loss) has seen worldwide sales slump recently, more like the company will disappear than drop prices, or will need to be propped up with more loans, and since it's stocks have dropped recently, those loans will have a higher interest rate, things do not look good for Tesla! … and that's OLD news!

  • +18

Great price, very tempting but lack of Android Auto is still a miss for me

    • +2

I thought this was coming with a future OTA update if I remember correctly?

      • +15

If I remember correctly, Apple Car Play OTA update ends of this year and Android Auto begins of next year.

Just not sure why it takes so long.

      • +9

If I've learned anything in my life, it's to never buy anything (Especially a $40k+ car!) with the expectation of a certain feature being added at a later date. So often it never happens or gets half arsed.

        • +7

But Full Self Driving is only 6 months away!!

      • +1

So's Christmas and 10,000 other features. Don't bet on "future updates" lol, this is not the first time a manufacturer has let buyers down.

      • +1

If you believe that it'll actually happen, I have a bridge in London to sell you.

Never buy a car based on promised future features…

        • "Never buy a car based on promised future features…"

          This!!

        • A bridge in London for sale isn't without precedent though - London Bridge is in Arizona.

    • The Leapmotor B10 should arrive later this year with Wireless Android Auto and Carplay, and a price tag that'll likely start from under $40k. Very similar dimensions to the Galaxy EX5, and compares very favourably.

This duo will probably be the best bang for buck SUVs you can buy below $45k, brand new.

  • +21

nice price. will take this over the Atto3 any day.

    • +4

Saw it at everything electric over the weekend.
Really nice car. Didn't realise the range was that average though.

    • literally had an atto 3 dealer demo on order, cancelled in favour of this after the local reviews went up.

  • +4

The more expensive model has a lower range, interesting strategy

    • +2

What gives? And slower too? Pay more for slower car? Nope.

    • +17

It's actually not uncommon - Kia EVs are the same. GT-Line (and GT if you count them) usually have lower range. Usually its the long range version of the base model (Air LR) that has the highest range.

EV5 GT-Line (top spec) has less range than EV5 Air LR (base spec), and is actually slower than the EV5 Earth (mid spec). Lol

It's usually because of extra motors and larger wheels. (In the case of the Geely, its the larger wheels, which reduce efficiency.)

    • +11

very common across EVs because they """upgrade""" to bigger wheels. a bit annoying, but personally the average ~300-400km range would last me weeks of daily commute anyway so i'm not fussed.

      • +9

I agree and am sick of this bigger and bigger wheel trend. It compromises ride and tyres get more expensive too!

        • Am up for some new tyres soon, my previous xtrail had 17" wheels, current one has 19" wheels, outer tyre radius indentical, tyre width identical, and to my surprise a 19" tyre is $50 or so more costly than the 17". Did not see that one coming.

        • Bigger wheels give better ride generally. Lower profile tyres give worse ride. If you put low profile tyres on big wheels (so they'll fit into the arches) then you get worse ride.

    • +2

      Larger wheels reduces the range.

    • it's the same battery. the less range is due to a bigger wheel

  • -3

Good price but won’t buy anything with a range lower then 550

    • +24

Very specific number there. Some people will say 300 or 400 but others will say 1000 is not enough even. For me I have 450km real world range and plenty for our daily runabout. Dual motor fun.

    • +20

I frequently do the 900km trip from Sydney to the Gold Coast, and honestly anything over 400km range should be fine so long as charging time isn't too long. This says it will go from 30% to 80% in 20 minutes, which means you probably only need to stop twice to charge. Just combine your charging with a couple of rest stops (which you probably should be doing anyway on a long drive) and you won't even notice.

      • +4

The Haval H6 ultra hybrid has 1,100km of range, costs $1k less in insurance every year as is $7k cheaper to purchase. Furthermore, I never have to charge my car because it's a conventional hybrid not an electric car. On the highway you'll be looking at 270km of range (Inspire) on the Brisbane to Gold Coast trip. EV cars were not built for the highway.

      • -1

Even if your vehicle is capable, an issue is that getting enough charging capacity to deliver that amount of power.

The other day I plugged into a 200kw charger and only got 38kw (my vehicle can go up to 170kw).

Having said that, ICE drivers are used to filling up with petrol. With EV charging you might only need 5 or 10 minutes to increase range enough to reach the destination.

        • +3

And most ICE drivers will park their car at their home at night - where they could be charging it. For most people it's actually less trouble to own an EV as they don't have to go to a fuel station.

      • Be interesting to see a youtube on long distance travel driving an EV in Aus.

        • +3

Just looked, there's heaps a youtubes on long distance EV travel.

        • -1

Also boring because of frequent charging stops.

    • +6

Oh really? My minimum range is 551 😏

      • +1

@beltdrive: Curious, what car do you have? I don't know of many EV's that can do 550km on the highway?

        • +3

Beltdrive was joking I think. One-upping the guy who wouldn't accept anything less than 550km.

      • Towing a trailer with a generator does not count!

  • +13

3.88% p.a rate on the finance is interesting, good rate considering the averages these days

    • Where did you see this? I can't seem to find anything regarding this on the website. Also, no mention of vehicle/battery warranty.
